Is TLG pursuing the wrong strategy?

Of course, the reason the big sets have the exclusive figs is because they are often what attract the eye, and help give that extra bump to buy the set. I certainly think that we need to see some good, smaller sets. Currently, the only quality builds we have are in the large sets. SW, for example, includes models in its army builders that are really throwaways- the speeder in the ep. III clone set was crap, and is instantly dismantled. The only models I've kept from battlepacks have been the STAP and the snowtrooper speeder bike. See a pattern here? Lego seems to be very fond of its vehicles, especially in SW. So, why don't they do this? There are plenty of nice, small vehicles in SW that would do fine on their own, yet are delegated to the large sets as fillers. It seems to me that the small vehicles can get taken out, while improving the quality of the main focus of the set, like covering up a technic beam on the AT-TE or whatever. Yet, the small vehicles are great as playability in the large sets. Of course, Endor would be no fun if it was just a bunker, with the AT-ST and speeder bikes sold separately. I feel, though, that lego needs to pursue the add-on yet stand-alone aspect of sets. I would've liked the idea of the $90 Endor bunker with the optional $10 Ewok catapult.

LEGO Star Wars 2010 Pictures and Rumors

Well, at least the cockpit isn't blue in this one... I suppose that's an improvement over 4483. Meh, I'm not a fan of this one, and I'll stick to my old one. What really bums me out, though, is that lego just isn't likely to make a UCS or even semi-UCS model for a long time- seeing as this one came so recently after the motorized version, I don't think a UCS version will be in demand. Oh well, at least we have the shuttle to keep us happy. It's a bit of a bummer that we have to attach the landing gear, and that there's no landing ramp... but that's what modding is for, isn't it?

    Dear Lego,

I certainly agree. Since I couldn't find any in my local stores, so I ordered two off of S@H, and received the spaceman and the clown. The quality is meh. The plastic is too soft, and next to a normal fig, it just doesn't match. I loved the idea of the figures- all the new parts and prints were amazing. With this new plastic, though, I just don't want to use it. It seems like they're taking advantage of our obsession with new minifig stuff. They expect us not to care about the quality as long as we get new hairpieces or face printing. But what's so great about new parts that don't fit in with the old ones?

    Repairing turret...

Thanks guys! I'm glad you all liked it- and I'm surprised people are still playing it. Aw, but that can be done without invincibility. My favorite thing to do is jump on top of the IFT-Xs and shoot the gunners in the head.

Er.... link? I can't find them.

to buy or not to buy magnets

Well, it is cheaper plastic, but it's gotten a little better, so I've heard. I'm very picky- so I can't stand having inferior quality figs in my parts bin. Also, they're pretty expensive. But it's your choice. If you don't mind figs that are slightly different than others, and cost less than the set they come in, go ahead. They do tend to go on sale fairly often, too, so you might want to wait until then.

Star Wars the force unleashed 2

October 26, huh? Right on my birthday. Maybe I'll try to get a PS3 so I can do the game justice. (I only have the first one on Wii... ugh.) The only problem I have with him fighting clones is that the game could get dull. The nice thing about fighting Jedi in the the first FU was that each Jedi had their own character and style, with their own unique world they lived on- Raxus Prime and Felucia. These had stunning scenery- if we start fighting clones, what reason is there to travel to these exotic locations?

    Major board upgrade

Meh. Personally I feel that the board is now harder to navigate, and it's harder to notice things on first glance. For example, names aren't seperated by underlines, and I keep thinking that a member's name is 'offline'. The line between posts is very faint, and it's harder to tell where one ends and another begins. The faded writing is also a pain.

    The Crystal Caves of Ilum

Excellent. My only complaint is that the cave needs to be stone gray, but the light-up crystals make up for it.

    [MOC] Z-6 Chaingun

Interesting design. I can see you've tried to fit in certain elements, like the drum and the upper handgrip. The main body seems a little too big, though. I love your BF II version. I remember hating it in the game, though- the charge-up made it absolutely useless, especially once the award blaster was unlocked.

    Star Wars: Old Republic

Another great trailer. The animation is great, and the action is absolutely stellar. Seems to me that the Sith were really underpowered. Force-sensitives are supposed to be able to sense threats, what someone is going to do before it happens. So how was the guy (as cool as he was) able to bull rush his way through two sith? They should have had time to anticipate his attack... and kill him with lightsabers. Also, it's never going to be this epic. It's an MMO- the idea of the game is to get you to keep playing it, with no end in sight. There's not going to be a storyline tale as we'd see in a console game. Now, to repeat the same old garbage I said earlier: Giving the troops that armor is a mistake. It is exactly the same as clone armor. They even have the visors, the white, and the color scheme. They look exactly like phase II troopers... We know that clone armor was designed by Jango Fett and the Kaminoans- the helmet by Mandalorians, and the white-and-black colors by the Kaminoan's eccentric taste. Don't tell me that it was 'just evolution' from the Old Republic stuff. Truth is, they're just rehashing it so it looks familiar, and they're trying to get kids to play it by cashing in on the clone look.

LEGO Collectible Minfigures Series 1 Poll

Oof. This is a hard one. I voted for the astronaut, as it seems to have the most practical uses- it's already become a favorite for Space builders. It was a close call, though.

That wasn’t a laser blast. Something hit us.

Wow, that's beautiful. I love the way you achieved the floating look for the asteroids, and the black base adds to it wonderfully. A very unique MOC for the contest!

How the new 8097 Slave I should have looked

Nice job. However, I think the rounded parts above the wings look better in dark green- they're green on the comparison model you've shown. One of the main problems I've had with TLC's version is the wing- I don't really like how it swings down. The 'real' slave I's wings rotate, and the diagonal bar isn't solidly attacked to it. Still I suppose this is just for the cockpit's rotating play feature.

    [MOC] A Slice of Kashyyyk

Great 'slice', very action-y. The wookie charging a droid with a knife is a nice touch. The AT-RT is impressive; though looking at your MOCs I see you have a thing for AT-RTs.

LEGO Star Wars 2010 Pictures and Rumors

Ooh. The shuttle looks great. The lines are so smooth... I really hope that it's not a single piece, as others have said. Still, as a UCS, it's hard to imagine lego doing that.

Cool! It's always nice to take care of a live bird for a day or two- compared to finding dead ones outside the window, as is usually the case. I help take care of injured raptors at a local museum, so they're not quite as cuddly.

    What did you buy today?

A PaB order: 20x 2x1 dark green plates 450x 2x2 dark green tiles 400x 2x2 light bley tiles 25x 1x1 dark green plates Turns out, the 2x2 tiles were far cheaper on PaB than they were on BL. The dark green tiles were $0.08 on PaB, and the cheapest large quantity of them was $0.22.
  24. 1. No. As they say, the model is more than the sum of its parts. However, if I took it apart, they do have some great parts. 2. Individually. If I like a set, I get it. If all the other sets in the theme are great, well, then I get the others, too. 3. Burj al Arab, Sydney Opera House, or Big Ben. 4. Anything that is high quality and well-constructed is fine by me. I think the Castle theme could do with a nice castle to go with the MMV, although it would have to be ridiculously expensive to be a proper castle. A lighthouse would be amazing. I put it in 4 because I don't have a specific one in mind.

    The Specter

The Specter, produced by the aerospace division of Sirius Cybernetics cooperation, was designed to be the fasted one-being spaceship in history. And, it was. Initial excitement over the Specter suddenly dried up after its first day on the market, after several well-known space racers died in their Specters. For, although the Specter was phenomenally fast, it also had steering that was worse than an Arcturan Mega-whale's. The Specter also holds the Galactic record for the shortest time on market, as it was banned only three days after being put on sale. By this time, however, several planets had already been destroyed, as the sheer kinetic energy was enough to create an impact on the scale of a large asteroid. Nevertheless, Sirius corp. still continues to sell these vehicles on its own version of the black market. Dangerous and uncontrollable though it may be, it is still sought by extremely rich idiots seeking to impress other extremely rich idiots. As for the color scheme: I intended it to be completely white, but there was one white slope that I couldn't find. So, I put in the black stripes. Although now I think I could have added more black... C&C always welcome.
