Does somebody know on what time on 1 january we can usually expect the release of the new Modular set? I hope it won't be exactly 12 o'clock (UTC + 1) since it won't be any fun to both celebrate the new year and refresh a shoppage...

No reason to wory, Stonewars.de claims after contact with Lego that the 2nd half of 2021 will have both Architecture and Speed Champions. Still, no details on what might come. So one "roadset" (according to promobricks) costs 20 Euros. The middle section contains one 16x16 piece (or 4 8x8's) and it is surrounded by 3 8x16 pieces. This means you'll get one 16x32 plate from this set, meaning you'll need two sets to have just one (!) roadplate. (Or you need to get creative with the sides, ofcourse) So if my calculations are right, one new single baseplate costs 40 Euros, which is a slight increase compared to the old system.. .?

Perhaps we will now at the 10 year anniversary of the Fairground Collection, whenever that's supposed to be As you suggest, it would be good to have more distinction in current theme's. It's weird that so many sets now fall behind the Creator Expert lines, while the content is so diverse...

I had one question though which still seems unanswered: Which Lego sets officially belong to the Fairground Collection? Also great set, I also think that the non-brand nostalgia vibe is a great combination with the actual ride. A well done for the designers!

Thanks for the update! Great to know, although I'm curious why this (and possible following sets) are more targetted to adults with the 18+ mark instead of the 16+ mark... Sorry for the possible necro. Is it just me or are more people noticing that this set is not really in high demand? While nearly all other big sets are backordered or nearly sold out, the JP set still seems available everywhere (in Europe atleast). Perhaps it might be a plus, since there's a higher chance of a discount

Great question!I think these two videos from BrickPicker are a great starting point for your question: When I build the last Modular buildings and also two from BrickAtive (great source for slightly alternative modulars of equal quality), I think the following points are in my opinion important: The buildings should have a timeless appeal. Most buildings have an European or American exterior from around the 50's. Ofcourse it may have more modern details like the computer in Town Hall. But for instance it shouldn't be very modern or victorian for a more consistent streetscape. (Ofcourse this is up to you, nothing would stop you to make something different, I purely make a suggestion based on the current modular layout ;)) A modular building should be interesting to look at. It should stand alone but also incorporate well in a street. Monotone and flat buildings are frankly quite dull. Make the whole thing more attractive with multiple colors and depth to the facade! A trend which started since the "golden age" of modulars is the story that a building and its minifigures can tell! In the current modularline there's a vet that's affraid of snakes, a boy who got his toy plane stuck in a tree but gets help from his friendly neighbour and also the detailed leisure space in the Fire Brigade! This goal can be reached by having a varying crew of minifigures, some microbuilds of furniture and a clear connection with the role of the building. If you fel ambitious you can also add multiple roles to a building, like a skate track besides a hospital (fast service), a gallery next to a small apartment of a art forger, or a car shop besides a bed store (Feeling tired?! Sorry about that one.) Last but not least, I wholeheartedly agree with @HereWeGoAgain and @jus1973. I realize that all the points above can be quite intimidating and it shouldn't limit your freedom of creation. A modular shouldn't have to be a 1:1 concept on the current existing productline, perhaps aside from from some basic handy concept like the connection points and the walkway. It should be your own fun little project and it shouldn't matter indeed what other people might think or judge. I hope these points help to inspire, good luck and have fun! :)

Does anybody perhaps have info about the retirement of the Roller Coaster (10261)? It's already listed on retiringsets.com as "high risk", but I lack more information about whether to wait for a better deal in the upcoming months...

It's great to know the price estimate, since buying the instructions doesn't tell you that. The models do look brilliant though, they're nicely detailed and of high quality. It sounds like an interesting adventure, but it's good to know it will cost several times more than an official Modular. Many thanks for your very thorough reply!

Ah I see, I already saw the design coming by but never when it was actually build! It really looks quite much like a modular. Do you also get an instruction pdf? And was it expensive to build? Also, thanks for your reply! ;)

Good point, I completely agree! You know those "leaked" trailers or other information on news sites or Youtube? As you probably know, those are part of the marketing campaign and very well thought of. The same could apply to Lego, some small details or a bad picture of a part of the box could indeed increase the customer engagement as they are much more frequently primed upon the upcoming release. I get that Lego doesn't want copycats to know too much too soon, but a little more engagement with upcoming set couldn't hurt imo ;)

IF the rumor is true, than I have to agree with you! Would be interesting to see if the designers will continue to flirt with the 50's/60's. Aka will it be a film noir like classis police station? And will it have the fourth car of the Modular series?

@koalayummies Sorry for the necro, I just wanted to say how much I adore your alternative build of the Old Fishing Shop! It looks really nice and I'm planning now to acquire this set myself to try to do the same! It will finally help to compensate the akward gap of 16 studs that Assembly Square created... Just a quick question, did you use much extra parts in this moc, besides the 16x32 baseplate?

That's a bummer, atleast its easy to get free replacements from lego... Also, what kind of lights do you mean? i thought there weren't any electronic lights in there at all...
