  1. It's more or less 67 years since the first official LEGO Sets, according to brickset
  2. I'm a little bit sorry but mostly proud to be an inspiration I just had an idea for a much better and simpler joint structure for the pneumatic cylinder that i'll try out, even thought i don't have six of them
  3. They just came out this year and they're awesome for building compact joints because they have only one free degree of freedom.
  4. It's definitely more fun not having to worry about the endpoints of the actuators. But i realize that the interface does impact the play value quite a bit. My switches are unfortunately quite stiff and in a dumb layout. So i currently prefer the motorized version. But this prototype gave me a few insights on the geometry and the importance of correct joints and their placement. I think having a lot of BEAM 1 with 2 CROSS AXLE [180 DEG] might help producing compact joints, unfortunately they're still quite rare in my collection
  5. You asked for it, here it is: A pneumatic version of the 6-DOF-table And here the video: This time, the lower joints were quite difficult to design, because i wanted to have the hoses in the center of the construction. I'm not satisfied with the quality of the construction, but for a quick prototype it's okay. This exercise helped me quite a lot to do more building and less engineering.
  6. Thanks to mocbuild101 i built a motorized version with big LAs: And again, here's a small video from my terrible phone:
  7. That was my first thought, but i decided on the cleaner look without all the tubes. And i (wrongly) thought the 2 stud base of the old cylinders might be harder to integrate. But you're right, i think such a platform would look awesome with the new 1 x 11 Pneumatic Cylinder (but i have only one of these ) Currently i'm just waiting for the next pneumatic Set to have six new 2 x 11 Cylinders, as they have a much larger travel than the old ones.
  8. I've got to admit, modelling the kinematics is tempting. But as i don't have two NXTs or EV3s, i couldn't use this to control it electronically. As for placing motors on the currently manual turned shafts: I thought about rebuilding it with big LAs, then i shall add motors as well
  9. Nice review. Coincidently, i just built this model yesterday. What you could have pointed out are the "license plates" and the difference of the shifting system to the current standard. personally, i think the argument of "one 566 part model for 120$" is not applicable. I see it like a combination model of the old days, with the corresponding ingenious part re-usage to achieve the desired functions and looks.

    Purism

That's exactly how i see it too. I like to build my models in a way that anybody might go out, buy a number of currently sold LEGO Sets, and then build an exact copy of mine. And this includes changing my building style over the years. Thinking about part colors i'm starting to realize that this isn't quite true... However, i still enjoy most of the non-purist models and that they're posted here
  11. This is a half assed mod way below any standard for me to feel comfortable sharing it. If you really need it, i could make a pictured deconstruction.
  12. In the current version only the stabilisers rely on torsion bars, if i remember correctly. So if you drop the stabilisers, everything should be legal.
  13. I quite liked the crane from the preliminary pictures: I tried to replicate it with moderate succes: It looks better than the current one and has more degrees of freedom in the arm: But as i'm not used to build things myself it's very flimsy, uses a lot of parts an is not as elaborate as the standard of this forum. Still, i'm proud of it (Please excuse the background, i don't have any photography equipment)
  14. That's an astonishing MOC/Mod. I adore so many functions in such a small place. What kinda stood out to me were the LAs. I think mini-LAs would fit better in the overall scale.
  15. For me it's definitely 8043, the techniques used, the complexity, the playability and the modability make this the best overall package in my opinion. subjectively i have to mention 8466, it was my first big LEGO set and it's the only one i keep put together for the last 5 years. I just love the way it looks
  16. It seems this part does exist, but only in this one set: 8755: Bionicle Keetongu

    [MOC] RC Truggy

Great model! It's instantly recognisable, for a short moment i believed to be on the wrong forum
  18. This car looks simply amazing. I'm curious to look how many parts i need to build it, this is on my must-build-list Have you thought about lowering the rear apron to the same level as the exhaust pipes?
  19. This is great, i followed your design process in awe is this new location some kind of film studio?
  20. Kind of: The problem is the bracing of the wheel: Because of this i wouldn't use this solution personally
  21. That's a surprisingly good fit: The bike wheels fit into the Porsche tires as well
  22. whoa, this looks so great. Have you tried to put the rear spoiler higher up to make it a wing? I think a wing might fit with the open wheel arches.
  23. The current shape reminds me of the Vauxhall Maloo : It's really great fun to follow your design process, thanks for making this WIP thread
