  1. I would say that it is because that view is in the minority among LEGO Space fans. There are likely a lot more fans of Classic Space (and Neo / Evolved) and Blacktron than there are of later themes. I enjoyed Spyrius and Ice Planet at the time, and Space Police gave us cool aliens, but ultimately I want to see the best elements of those themes incorporated into the classics and I think there are more fans of that concept.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

I may have to go stop by the store and look now!
  3. Indeed! And I love the Sewer Babies. Will likely BrickLink them, though. That was I can hopefully get more than 2, and I don't have to get all the other crap to get them.
  4. I'd love to see them use everything you pictured and more (minus the creature heads, I prefer molded creatures).
  5. I'm upset that they ruined a beautiful minifigure. That Skrull in the Captain Marvel set would have been a very useful minifigure for me, if only they had kept that bit of green off of the torso...
  6. Fair points. I'm not saying that the existence of these themes is stopping things from being made so much as I'm saying that LEGO is less likely to do multiple in-house themes using the same / similar subject matter, and that if they do one with Minidolls they are unlikely to do another with Minifigures concurrently. And I understand that Elves and Nexo Knights are ostensibly in-house fantasy themes, there's a big difference between them when it comes down to the context of fantasy. I'm hoping that next we will see a medieval fantasy Minifigure theme. I assume a science fiction theme with Minidolls could exist at the same time, but another fantasy-based theme would be less likely.
  7. No matter how you feel about Minidolls, you have to agree that they are divisive. And because of that, you have to see how their introduction and inclusion can be somewhat problematic. They aren't a problem in and of themselves, but because they existed there was no good medieval fantasy theme for those that don't like them. But that's just one example. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't mind Minidolls so much if there were 2 versions of every theme: one with Minidolls and one with Minifigures. Friends works in this way, because it's largely a City-type theme with Minidolls. DC Super Hero Girls worked in this way as well, because there are Minifigure sets under the DC Super Heroes line. Elves doesn't work because there's no Minifigure analogue. Nexo Knights certainly didn't fill that need, it was a sci-fi theme with medieval fantasy elements shoehorned in. That's why Elves bothers me more than the others I mentioned. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Not to get back on this part of the conversation, but it relates to the larger conversation about Fantasy races in Guilds of Historica. The West has been a force for both good and evil, depending on which particular events you look at. And while I absolutely appreciate that the West has merits, I also value the merits and ideals of other cultures that have populated this Earth. This is why I enjoy more nuanced characters (Game of Thrones doing a much better job than Tolkien in this regard) rather than blanket statements about Fantasy races. For every 'Evil' race in a setting, I always imagine a 'Good' character. And vice-versa. I can appreciate some darkness, myself. I'm looking forward to seeing how your story develops. You make a lot of great points in this post, but I had to respond here. When I was reading about how the bad guys are never entirely bad, I already clicked 'Quote' to bring up Ramsay Bolton, so I'm glad you mentioned him. Nothing wrong with a few characters that are entirely good or evil, but when you apply that to entire races it becomes a problem. As for my own storytelling, I am looking to create a diverse cast of characters from all races and walks of life. I have many ideas, but unfortunately the bulk of my LEGO is in storage. And since I'm busy shopping for a new place to live, it will have to stay there for a while. I may try a few vignettes to introduce more of my characters, though.
  9. There were a few, I searched for them, but far too many with the orange.

    Neo Classic Space

Maybe just Classic Space with modern parts?
  11. That's fantastic! I love the way you've interpreted the classic Voltron castle here. The lion looks great as well. The video is a nice touch, it's very cool to see it explode, then rebuild itself. Thanks for sharing! Good stuff!
  12. I agree. Nexo Knights was basically a Space (Sci-fi) theme with Castle elements shoehorned in. It would work so much better if they all didn't have the same bright orange for their faction crests. It would actually be great if that were the case. Very much so, actually. This goes for the Big 3 Classic themes of Castle, Space, and Pirates. I didn't include City because it feels like the theme of City is to not have a theme...
  13. That's a great point as well. As long as the theme is decent and the named characters aren't so specific that they can't be useful to us, there shouldn't be a problem.

    Amethyst Geode

This is a very nice build based on a very original idea. It's very well done. I'd love to see higher resolution images here, maybe one with a minifigure for scale? Thanks for posting this. Great work!

Fabuland Builders Guild - Discussion Thread

This will help with the acronyms. Check out the Forum Information and Help section for more such information. From that page: MOC = My Own Creation This is a build that you create, rather than a set or something you saw online (which would be someone else's MOC).
  16. That's because City, Castle, and Pirates generate art and fiction rather than fan art and fan fiction. That's fair, but there are movies and books for that. Does there need to be LEGO for that? I'm not entirely against licensed LEGO, or LEGO with stories connected, I just miss when there were more themes without those things. Since we are currently experiencing an abundance of story-based themes, it would be nice to see more without that feature. Exactly. I agree. And I don't think that themes like Castle or Space need to have established characters to be successful.

It was my impression that most of these are Dragon Dance pieces.

[PRESS RELEASE] 70840 - Welcome to Apocalypseburg!

It looks a little sticker-heavy. I hope that's just the preliminary art.
  19. Good points all around. Thanks for the tip on cat faces!

[PRESS RELEASE] 70840 - Welcome to Apocalypseburg!

It looks fantastic! My favorite part so far is the little print shop. Also, the Batman minifigure is awesome.
  21. It is indeed. Nice to see it all put together.
  22. Yeah, that's true. Like I just said: LEGO is what you make it, really. It's just easier to make things when you don't have to separate them from a source material first.
