Who is your favorite Ninjago villain?
x105Black replied to Master_Data's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I voted for the Stone Army because I like the double torsos. I never really got into the whole snake thing, and I don't like the skeletal snake armor or skeleton guys. Not too big on the technology, like the Nindroids and such. I also don't really like the color combinations on the ghosts, but I do like the overall dark color schemes and the fact that they're doing more transparent minifigure parts. I also voted for Clouse, because he's the only minifigure that appealed to me from Ninjago. Or at least the only villain, because a few of the characters in the Temple of Airjitzu are pretty cool, like the Mailman. The Dark Red with Dark Purple works nicely.- 38 replies

This is enough to get me excited. I love the molded animals and beasts, and I'd love to see a new Wampa!

Great question. I'd love to know as well. I mean, I get why it was called that in the first place. Originally, we thought there was going to be a Castle theme in 2016. But I guess they're just waiting for the official announcement or something. I think keeping it called "Castle 2016" and keeping it in the Historic themes rather than Action and Adventure are both a bit misleading.
-
I don't really care about historical accuracy. Majisto and Dragons are some of my favorite things in Castle themes. I'm not really basing my dislikes off of previous themes. I'm basing them off of the designs I've seen for Nexo Knights. That may be influenced by my particular tastes, in that I prefer to build medieval fantasy settings, but I'm also a huge fan of Star Wars (which is a sci-fi fantasy blend done well). I'm free to express my opinions. Also, you might notice that I included things I liked about Nexo Knights. I wasn't just being one-sided about this, I was looking for a silver lining in this fecal tempest.

I highly doubt it would, it was a joke really.

That could be cool. I like the idea of having a few different crossbow designs. I do think Chewbacca has the better design, though.

What about a UCS set that's the interior of the TARDIS for $350?

So many things I don't like: The Colors of the Knights Faction - Too much blue. Blue armor and helmets would have been better in Pearl Light Grey / Silver. The Colors of the Evil Faction - For the most part, they are much better in color. I would have much preferred them to be Dark Red skinned rather than Red. The Chaos Chariot - I really thought the Podracers in Star Wars were lame, but this is an even worse design. The Robo-Horse - It looks ridiculous. It's big and lanky. I wonder what the wheel underneath does. Maybe you roll it and it's legs move? The Blade Cruiser / Rumble Blade - The idea of a knight in a suped-up car with blades all over it is silly to me. And it has too much blue. The Battle Blaster / Disc Launcher - This type of set typically wouldn't appeal to me anyways. The Fortrex - This is an absurd mobile fortress. A tank-castle. From what little I see now, too blue. The Jestro Set - Looks laughably overdone, but maybe that's the point. Too much going on. The Little Robot Guys - They look like really primitive builds. The Little Evil Minions - These guys look terrible. The Armor, Shields, and Weapons - The weapons are strange and bulky. The idea of using the shields as hoverboards is very weird, and the bright colors are off-putting. The giant shields on the chests of the armor look awkward. The armor is very bulky and sci-fi looking. The Idea that this could be a Castle theme - It really should be in Action Adventure, since it's a Big Bang theme and that is where those themes reside. There are things I like: Beast Master - He looks like he might have a cool Dark Red headpiece. Pyramid Brick - That could be useful. Visors - The dumb little robots have the classic visor. I hope that's in a Pearl Grey color. The other visors, it's hard to see, but I hold out hope they could be useful. Macy - It looks like her plume could be cool. Maybe it's her hair, though? Knight Minifigures - It's hard to tell under that bulky armor, but it looks like the torsos and legs might be decent designs. Enemy Minifigures - The torso on the enemy in Clay's set looks like it could be decent. Jestro - This minifigure actually looks like he might be pretty cool. Lipstick is a bit much, but the idea of a crazy evil jester isn't bad. Crossbow - This might be a nice, handy weapon. Evil colors - Lots of Black and Brown. Interesting Lava Rocks. Maybe some Dark Red. The Background Image - This looks like a nice setting. The castle looks a bit futuristic still, but overall the scenery is nicely done. So, overall, I think there's a lot of horrible stuff going on. But, there are some saving graces, bits and pieces that might be useful or worth picking up either in a cheap set or in the secondary market. Still, this is certainly more of a Big Bang Action theme like Ninjago and Chima, and as such I think it belongs in the Action section far more than in the Castle section. I can't wait for information about the next Castle theme.

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
x105Black replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
Exciting news. Thanks! -
Well I might like it, if only to get the minifigures at a lower price point. I'm guessing it's about the size of the Cantina, which I also thought was puny.
-
So it seems like the set images are just preliminary, so no way to tell what the printing will look like on C-3Po yet. I may be interested in getting that Carbonite Freezing Chamber, if only for the minifigures. I'll have to wait and see for myself. Thanks for the information, CM4Sci!

Certain Lego themes should be designed with adults in mind!
x105Black replied to CaptainToad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Creator Expert appeals only to people interested in City themes. If they were to produce other themes in that style, I would completely agree that it was a non-issue. -
Only those 2 words, but those could be in an Action theme as well. Where do they refer to it as a Castle theme?
-
Well I think this is an Action theme rather than a Castle theme, so I think KK2 can keep that distinction. I see nothing in the text that would indicate that this is a Castle theme. All I see are mentions of Knights and a Kingdom, which could be viable in Action themes.
-
Finally got to see some pictures. CM4Sci's drawings were pretty accurate depictions of the sets, so good job on that. And that's about the only positive thing I have to say. Fears confirmed, this is an abomination.

I'm feeling the same way. Is the evil guy in the Beast Master Chariot set wearing one of these in Black and Dark Red? 8BrickMario brought up the question earlier, but I never saw clarification. I think it would be a great piece, maybe one of the most useful for my purposes.

75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters Discussion
x105Black replied to kelceycoe's topic in LEGO Licensed
I would imagine the initial proposal for the Ecto-1 was the inspiration for obtaining the license. Sure, that project had the headquarters, but that wasn't part of the proposal. After obtaining the license and releasing the Ecto-1 successfully, I'm sure LEGO had the intent to create the headquarters. Then along comes the actual headquarters Ideas project. I do get the point, and it would be disappointing if I were the original creator of that project, but I think that it makes sense the way it happened. And I honestly can't imagine getting the Ghostbusters license and not producing a headquarters. Also, I expect some significant differences between the Ideas HQ design and the set that will be coming next year, in light of the rejected project and all. -
Minifig parts and accessories you don't like
x105Black replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm on board with that. I've gotten used to the idea that any set with dwarves will need a separate purchase of regular sized pants. Sure, they're not dwarves anymore, but I like them much better with full legs for a wider variety of poses. -

I agree with the main point of this topic. I think that the Creator Expert Modular Buildings fill that niche, but only for fans of City themes (which is arguably likely to be the majority of fans). I think that some Expert level buildings would sell really well in a Castle theme. They could do 1 a year, like the Modular Buildings, and I'm sure there would be a fanbase to support it. They could do the same with other classic lines, like Space and Pirates, and I'm sure they would sell. If they are concerned about the viability of this, they could even rotate those types of themes so we get 1 awesome Expert Castle themed building in (for example) 2017, followed by Space in 2018, then Pirates in 2019, and back to Castle in 2020... It would be really nice to see a wider range of products offered with AFOLs in mind. That's the point. I believe that they can do this while still maintaining their focus on being a successful children's toy company. -
There may still be a chance for sets in the future. I'd wait until Dimensions launches and they get some solid sales figures on the Oz merchandise. Maybe if the sales are high, we could be seeing Oz come to life in brick form down the (yellow brick) road.

75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters Discussion
x105Black replied to kelceycoe's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm a fan of Ghostbusters, but not a huge fan. I've seen the movies (which are great) multiple times, and I watched the animated series as a child. I probably won't be buying this, as most of my focus is on Castle, but I am very happy that they're making it. It sounds like it will be fantastic. As to the discussion about the size, I'm glad this will be over 4000 pieces with a full interior. Anything less wouldn't really do justice to the source material. I couldn't imagine how it would look as a 500 piece set, but my instinct is to say it would be a waste. I completely get the affordability argument, but this set isn't aimed for affordability. This set sounds like it is aimed at Expert level AFOLs, and to be honest, they need to make more stuff like that. While I fully understand that LEGO is a children's toy company, I really appreciate the effort they make in targeting AFOLs and would appreciate it more if they did more of it. And about the Ideas project, LEGO always said that they will reject an idea if it is something that was already planned. I wouldn't doubt that this was the case here, and the Ideas project only confirmed for them that there would be an audience for it. So if they're planning a full wave, with more possible based on the new movies, I'm hoping to eventually see Vigo the Carpathian as a minifigure, and versions of the original Ghostbusters as their animated series versions. -
I was hoping that Elves would make up for the lack of Castle, but those cutesy brick-built dragons sound like a miss. Hopefully the brown / tan buildings look nice. Can't wait to see some pictures. The descriptions for some of them sound pretty good. Thanks CM4Sci!

This is really nice. Simple, yet effective. That much big, flat wall just looks massive and imposing. The details really stand out and give a nice variation from the flat wall sections, and the use of minifigure legs is quite clever. The roof looks great, too. Good job!
-
Fair enough. I completely understand your reasoning. I now find the new greys to be richer in hue as well.

Looking forward to descriptions. Hopeful to hear about the Duel from Episode 7. Also hoping for more information about the Droid Escape. I'm wondering if C-3PO has the same level of printing as the polybag release coming later this year.
