  1. Kinda? I don't mind a few facial features, hair styles, etc. but I don't think names and backstories are necessary. As a kid, I found it fun to invent them for myself, and a lot of my own builds as an adult have known characters that have been repurposed into my own invented characters (because LEGO is about creating). Just my 2 cents. I understand why people like those things, but I also understand that I don't have to pay any attention to it and I can make what I want to make. I agree. That's how I saw things as a child in the 80's. I didn't need He-Man, Thundercats, or Voltron LEGO. I had the TV shows to entertain me, and action figures. LEGO was for me to be creative and come up with my own stories. I did, however, try to build Middle Eastern architecture after watching Aladdin.

    MOC: The Yellow Castle

I absolutely love this tribute to the original Yellow Castle set. This looks fantastic! The redesign uses a lot of the original concept, but adds so much more. Great work!
  4. Looks like they contain "1 LEGO character" not a minifigure...
  5. The catalog page seems to say Australia and New Zealand on the next page. Anyways, thanks for sharing, they look great! Looking forward to seeing more details in the official announcement to finalize my purchase plan.

    The next space theme....

Yeah, but this wasn't done in the best way. I liked a lot of it, but disliked the over-reliance on Ender's Game / Starship Troopers bug alien concepts. The colored astronauts could have been more color-based, and more of an homage to Classic Space. They could have used the Classic Space logo. But yes, I got your overall point about the color-coded minifigures. This is great. I like all of it. The idea of Mecha and Combiners takes it further out of Star Wars, but let's not get too Gundam here either. I feel Voltron is a good model. The Pirates and Spies idea here works perfectly. Adding a cartoon is a great topping to this, but let's not have it suffer from the silliness of the cartoon genre. Some cartoons can be good without bad humor spoiling the fun. Colored canopies are great, but I like simple transparent canopies as well. I also like trans black. Just me personally, though. Anyways, I'm on board!

    The next space theme....

I've probably mentioned it here before, but I'm too lazy to check. I would like to see a Space theme that uses a lot of the philosophies behind Classic Space / Futuron / Blacktron / Spyrius. Multicolored minifigures like Classic Space and Futuron, with a bit of an upgrade, similar to upgrades found in the CMF line. Kind of a Neo-Classic Space. Nostalgic references to the original themes would be nice. Of course, robots and aliens would be welcome, but let's not go overboard. Anyways, that's what I imagine.

What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Love Actually. My lady likes cheesy Christmas romances.

    LEGO Nexo Knights 2018

It's a minidoll character named Balthazar from the LEGO Movie 2. Not Nexo Knights.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

My guess? I'll go with the obvious: Robert Pattinson.
  11. Despite the advantages to minidolls (I acknowledge there are some valid points above), it's still a matter of preference and a subjective view. From what I've heard, there are many many people with a preference for minifigures. Part of that is tradition, part of that is functionality, and part of that is a downright dislike of minidolls. I am also glad that minidolls exist for the fact that they do help to introduce more people to the joy and fun of LEGO. That's always a valuable thing. Still, for my own purposes the minidoll is not a viable option. In my last post here I said : I say that a bit selfishly. The reason for this is that I prefer a medieval fantasy style. Now Elves wasn't particularly medieval and more purely fantasy, but I think it still fits. And it definitely appeals to me more than the technological knights of Nexo Knights. Also, I liked the builds and the fantastical nature of Elves in general. I think it would have been interesting to see them reversed, with Nexo Knights (or similar) marketed to girls with minidolls and Elves (or similar) marketed to a more generic audience and / or boys with minifigures. I wonder if they might have both found the same levels of success or failure if they had been reversed. Honestly, LEGO probably played it the right way, and they worked at expanding their audience. I say that because in this reversed situation I think that Elves would have been just as popular (maybe more) overall, and Nexo Knights would have had the same struggles (or greater struggles). The main difference would be that I don't think girls would have been pulled as deeply into a Nexo Knights theme with minidolls, and if the minidolls are drawing girls into play then they wouldn't have found Elves as attractive a theme with minifigures.

    LEGO Nexo Knights 2018

I'm partial to the term used in LEGO Movie 2 marketing: Vampiruses. Also, they weren't all that Piratey...
  13. I never would have caught that in all the blurriness. Thanks for sharing it here.

    LEGO Ninjago 2019

The Oni Villains pack looks fantastic. I will definitely be picking up at least one of those.

[MOC] "All Together Now" Christmas 1914

Nice little commemorative build. Are you sure the name didn't come from Liverpool band The Beatles and their 1969 song of the same name? Either way, thank you for sharing. This story of the human side of war is inspiring.
  16. I wish they had made a version of the Nexo Knights theme for girls with minidolls and a version of the Elves theme for boys with minifigures...

    LEGO Elves 2018

A lot of very cool concepts like fantasy, dragons, and colorful sets. A lot of garbage like minidolls, brick-built creatures, and tramp stamp tattoos. My opinion, anyways.

What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Elf last night. This was the first time, and there will likely be more. Not a fan of most Christmas movies, but this one was a lot of fun.

    Non-Purist Superhero Figures

I have to say, I really like these minifigures for Castle builds.
  20. I love them. I prefer animal-type costumes, and I prefer them to not feel like costumes. Basically, an excuse to introduce new fantasy characters. But I do love the others as well. The Cactus and Banana were great, the Crayon looks like it will be fantastic...
  21. Agreed. I said something similar in the LEGO Movie 2 thread, but I'll move it here and break it down a bit more: Cowardly Lion - Could be a whole fantasy race built around this. Scarecrow - Could be a great scarecrow, or just nice pieces to use in Castle builds. Swamp Monster - Another fantasy race, goes well with other Swamp Monster minifigures. Apocalypseburg parts - Many of the minifigure legs and torsos could work for Castle or Western builds. Rex's hat and dinosaur - Both could be useful for Castle builds. Rex's pants might be great for Westerns, if that interests anyone. Tin Man - I could use his body as a suit of armor, and he has a nice axe. His hat could be used as, well, a funnel... Dorothy - Her hair and Toto could be useful. In fact, most of her parts are passable in a fantasy context, or in a Western context. Brightly colored characters - Hair could be good for fantasy characters. While there aren't any minifigures that are specifically for historical or Castle fans, there are plenty of parts that could be useful. I'm not big into Westerns, but there are certainly some parts here that could work. I think I'm going to enjoy this series.
  22. Highly doubtful because of the way in which the stones were packaged. I don't think they would put all of the different colors on the sprue in the same set. That would be 24 stones!
