I'd love to see Scarif discounted (though I'll get it regardless), or the Y-Wing (I have the previous one, but the minifigures might sway me to get it), but I figure they're too knew. I notice the rebel combat frigate is marked as retiring soon, so that could be a possibility. Assault on Hoth would actually be great at 40% off, but no way is TLG generous enough to do that. I hope there are actually some good deals - normally I'm excited for May the 4th, but R2 just isn't as compelling a gift as a rare figure.
  2. Are there any models from the LotR videogame that are buildable in reality? And does anyone have that picture that shows the Lothlorien prototype?

LEGO Star Wars Pricing Discussion Thread

Yeah, I don't care for it either. Before it was like getting a minifigure for $3, but now it's closer to $4. Sure, if I'm just getting one at the store I might not mind, but I'll certainly wait until they're on sale before I buy them en masse.

It's the IF-120 landing craft. FYI, if you click on pictures on wookieepedia it will tell you what pages include that picture.

For promotions like the May the Fourth one, do you get the free minifigure even if you use giftcards to pay? I'm wondering whether I should save my gift cards.
  7. For a better ratio I'd prefer one squad leader and three regular shoretroopers, but knowing TLG it'll never happen. Still holding out for a Scarif citadel set though

Best way to build a Star Wars army?

It's rare that you'll find large quantities of troops available for much less than $2.50 per minifigure. The cheapest I see them is in battlepacks on sale. On Amazon in particular battlepacks can go for $10 or even less. The only other place I see cheap army-builder minifigures is Bricklink, but I don't usually find them much cheaper than the on-sale battlepacks.

But what is there to make? Zam Wessell speeder chase, Jango Slave 1, Kamino, Geonosian stuff, Padme's ships, Lars homestead, and more Naboo are the only things that haven't been made into good sets already, and most of them don't have any potential. They've already made several Boba Slave 1 sets, and I bet they'll make several more without consideration for Jango's. Kamino, Geonosis, and Naboo don't provide too much interesting material that would make a feasible set. Padme's ships are boring, but I suppose that's feasible. If they make a Lars homestead, I'm fairly certain it'll be ANH. That leaves only Zam Wessell - and truthfully other than a new minifigure that doesn't interest me. All the battle vehicles have been made countless times and have clone wars versions too, so I don't know how much of a demand for those there is. I personally still want a gunship, but I doubt that's happening anytime soon. What is it that you want? It is indeed the most neglected SW movie by LEGO (not counting TFA and R1); according to a quick scan of Brickset it has ~17 sets. Believe it or not, the second least is ESB with ~25. Truthfully, I think RotS has much more potential for future sets. I'd love to see some more of the Order 66 scenes, or the senate battle, or the Invisible Hand.

Actually, I think the Star Wars show pointed out that if you watch closely you can see that the plans were transmitted in several parts, albeit simultaneously. Yeah, although I suppose it's plausible, I felt the Evazan and Baba cameo was unnecessary. Why should Vader be able to sense Leia? She's barely Force-sensitive, and he has no reason to suspect he has a daughter. The length of death star construction was not mostly because it was hard to build, but because they had to design it - if you read Catalyst it makes more sense; they didn't know how to power it until Galen figured it out. Because they already knew how to do it, the Death Star II was built much faster. Presumably there weren't more people like Chirrut who treat the Force like a religion because they were persecuted by the Empire. I think Death Troopers are supposed to work for Imperial Intelligence, which we don't see in the original trilogy, so it makes sense that they don't either. It seems they're trying to fix that by including them in Rebels.

I have neither MTT, but if the old one was available at a reasonable price I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. For me, the whole point of the MTT is that it's a giant troop transport - yet the latest one actually holds fewer droids than the ~$30 droid carrier, I believe. How does that make sense?

    RIP Princess Leia

Very sorry to hear this. I thought her health had been on the upswing recently, so I was surprised when I heard about her heart attack. Not to be morbid, but how far along is episode 8? Do you think they'll CGI her? It was one thing with Tarkin, but it might seem insensitive to do it with someone who only passed recently. Regardless, Star Wars won't be the same without her and I wish the best for her family.

    Rogue One movie discussion thread

Blowing up the base - I think Tarkin believed if he blew it up fast enough they wouldn't be able to transmit the plans out in time. There are other things, like how they wouldn't want to risk any other plans falling into rebel hands, or how he didn't like Krennic, or how it would hurt the rebels more than the empire, but I think that was the chief reason. Leia's head start was the only reason she got as far as she did. I assumed Star Destroyers are much faster than rebel corvettes, so Leia knew Vader would catch up with her and headed for the closest planet with a trustworthy agent for the rebellion - Tatooine. Earlier Bail and Mon Mothma were discussing Kenobi, so they must have planned that. I'm not sure how Vader knew where they were going, but tracking doesn't seem out of the question.

(Revenge of the Sith) Or the beginning of A New Hope for that matter. I feel like they could have just said "Mustafar" without explanation and it would have been fine. Has anyone read Catalyst? I'm wondering if it fills in any important backstory that was left out of the film. I've heard it focuses on Galen and Krennic, but does it talk much about Saw, or even other characters? It might be cool to read it and then watch the movie again.

Yeah, that's as close as you'll get. I think Thrawn's is the same as Krennic's but with blue hands and the pseudo-epaulets.

    Rogue One movie discussion thread

I loved Rogue One. I came in not expecting much more than TFA, but it was wonderful. CGI Tarkin was necessary and was well-done, 95% realistic. Princess Leia was also well-done, but was just jarring enough (and unnecessary) that I think it would have been better to just show her from behind. Some cameos were fine (Chopper, the Ghost, etc.), but others were stupid and unnecessary (Evazan and Baba, R2 and 3PO), but tolerable. It also bothered me how unlikable many of the rebels were - some were understandable, to make them seem real and compare them to the middle-east and such, but others made them seem annoying and petty instead. I liked how the movie also patched up some holes in ANH, most notably the existence of the design flaw in the first place. Although I saw the ending coming, it was great and very emotional - each death was perfect. In fact, I'd say the entire Scariff sequence was flawless. The first half was not as good, unfortunately. There's nothing inherently wrong with it - it just could have been a bit better. The plot was fine, but I feel like I could have had more attachment to the characters. Saw's relationship with Jyn needed more depth, as did his tactics (that octopus thing seemed jarring - although I understand the point was to make him seem morally gray, without explanation it just made him seem cruel and crazy). Nonetheless, the acting and the main story were effectively written and still managed to make me feel affection for the characters. Any bad memories of the first half were completely washed out by the second half, which was perfect. My ranking is ESB, ANH, RotJ/R1, RotS/TFA, TPM, AotC - I haven't rewatched the originals for awhile, and although their action sequences weren't as impressive, it's unfair to count that against them as they came out so long ago and pioneered the entire saga. They get credit for creating their own stories. The reason why R1 is behind the original is that in the originals the characters were more filled-out. In ANH, for example, we are introduced to Luke as he complains about not being allowed to go to the Academy and how he wants to get off the planet and do something with his life - even though it's a short introduction, it's effective. Leia instantly is introduced as a confident person who cares about everyone else as she stands in front of Vader. Han is introduced in the bar as being strapped of cash and caring mostly about his own skin, and not caring about taking a life to do so. That's why his return at the end of the trench run is so important - it shows that he actually does care about other people, even if he hides it. In Rogue One, we don't get quite the affinity for the characters. We know Jyn lost her family to the Empire and spent some time with Saw's rebel cell, and Saw's abandonment of her is mentioned, but we don't know what their relationship was. For some reason she became a petty criminal after she left the cell, and at the time of the movie she's sort of lost and doesn't know what to do with her life. I guess that's enough of a backstory for her - the real problem, once again, is Saw. It's impossible to develop every character, so the rest was OK. I don't quite understand where Chirrut and Baze come from; they had something to do with that temple on Jedha, but I didn't really catch what or why they should matter to me. We didn't really need to know any more than that, so I was content. Likewise, not much to explain about K2-SO. More problematic is Cassian. He's very loyal to the alliance and in the movie has to learn to think for himself. So what? We have no backstory whatsoever. He mentions how he was on his own at 6 because of the Empire, but that's all we know. If they had made us understand Cassian the movie would have been equal to the original. Finally, Bodhi the pilot - he seems unnecessary and tacked on to the plot. Why did they need a physical defector? It seems like they just needed a character who knew how to fly imperial ships and such and decided to add him in. Why did he care enough to defect? How did he know Galen? Wasn't the octopus thing supposed to permanently mess up his brain? Things like this are what made the first half weak. To summarize my wall of text, R1 needed more backstory, mostly for Saw, Cassian, and Bodhi. Their absence weakened the first half and made the struggle seem less real. However, the second half and ending were so wonderful that it completely covers up the shortcomings of the first half and raises the movie to a new level. If the entire movie had been as good as the second half I think it would have been as good as, if not better, than ESB. As for the LEGO sets - Krennic's shuttle, the AT-ST, Y-wing, and Striker match what we saw on screen very well; any flaws they had were visible before. The tank of course could have had better hatches, and I think it should have had room for a tank commander, but for its size it's as good as possible. The U-Wing has imperfections, but is still a fine set and good for its size. Battle on Scarif is very nice for its size, and lack of interior doesn't bother me there the way it did for Takodana, as it didn't really have one in the movie. Minifigures - I think there's been good coverage of everyone for the most part. I'd like Saw and Galen of course, and I think it'd be a good opportunity to get Bail, different imperial officers, and such, but mostly good. The only glaring omission in terms of sets is the cargo transport. It's a cool ship seen over and over in the movie, and it plays such an important role. AT-ACT, TIE boarding craft, death trooper TIE, and prison transport turbo tank are all cool and feasible sets, but I figure they're too similar to existing sets and only appear for a few seconds, so we won't get them for a while if at all. I'd also love another (bigger) Imperial base or Vader's sanctum, but I'm guessing the Battle on Scarif and DS mean that's not happening. I guess I got carried away!

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors

Assuming the rebel hangar set is the Yavin base, the only obvious sets TLG could make from Rogue One are the AT-ACT and the cargo shuttle. I'd love to see a different Imperial base, but I figure they'll (sadly) shy away from that because they already made the Scarif battle set. I'm confused - how many set slots are still unknown? Curious about when those could fit in.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Yeah, Wookieepedia says that was an early idea. The treads aren't really visible, though, so it would've been a waste of time trying to fit them in there - I think the wheels are a great solution. My real problem, though, is that the tank is supposed to have 2 pilots plus a commander (looks the same but with a gray stripe on the chest) who sticks his head out the main hatch. TLG only included the pilots - and the hatch doesn't look good open.

I don't own 75060, although I agree that it's a beautiful model. I own the previous Slave 1 (8097), and although smaller and less detailed, it has a functional cockpit, storage for Han, and all sorts of weapons. It doesn't look particularly out of scale either. The thing that bothers me about the UCS set is that it wastes some of the space inside - the "real" Slave 1 has small crew quarters and a holding cell as well, which are absent here. A smaller Slave 1 is a lot more "swooshable," as well as more in scale with other LEGO ships, so I'm sure we'll see another eventually.

Yeah, I only buy sets if it's a nice design and is sufficiently distinct from my other sets, unless it has minifigures I want for a reasonable price. That's why I only have a couple of jedi starfighters - I bought my first for the build, and numbers two and three were to get Plo Koon, Shaak Ti, and Even Piell. I'll buy anything Imperial though. For Rebels I got the Ghost & Phantom because they are relatively unique, feature the main character minifigures I didn't have, and are pretty important to the show. I plan on getting the Assault Carrier too, as it's Imperial. The rest I don't touch.

Why'd the 2017 thread get locked? I assume it was deemed off-topic, but I don't think it's been made very clear. How can we know what we did wrong if it's just silently locked without explanation? I feel like if we had a crystal-clear definition of the scope of the thread it might be a bit easier, but the previous explanations are a bit open to interpretation (I guess "only constructive comments on the new sets" means different things to different people). I don't know what to do without my daily fix of 2017 news!
