  1. AV-7 Antivehicle Cannon The AV-7 Antivehicle Cannon, also called Republic Artillery Gun or Clone Artillery Cannon, was a repulsorlift self-propelled artillery unit used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. The vehicle could be operated by one clone trooper in a seat on the side of the gun, and had a chamber for refilling shells to the side of the lower chassis. Republic Artillery Guns were used during the Battle of Christophsis where they countered the Confederacy's AATs and titanic Tri-droids. The Separatists erected an energy field which prevented the clone troopers from using the cannons, but Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano disabled it, allowing the cannons to help swing the outcome of the battle. I love the AV-7 and had wanted to build it since seeing the Clone Wars movie. I initially got as far as while as building a leg... and it stayed that way for months! I saw that the competition was on at the weekend and started building in earnest, finally finishing and photo'ing last night. This is one of the hardest models I've ever attempted to build by far and took loads of fine tuning to get it right. Parts count well over 400, legs alone account for over 200 parts! So, here it is... Main Shot Front Right Rear Left Top Here's a couple of extra images... Gunner Detail EDIT: I thought I'd add an extra photo showing minifig to leg scale. Captain Rex kindly agreed to participate! Unfortunately I only had time to build one competition entry so this is it! Please take a look at the Bricklink gallery when moderated here to see many more photos of my AV-7. Good luck to everyone who's taken part!
  2. Hey, Here's my first entry for The Character Rides Contest: Obi Wan's Arquitens-class Light Cruiser. Really liked this spacecraft ever since seeing it the episode Grievous Intrigue. Some close-up details: And the interior - the top of the forward hull removes to reveal Obi Wan captaining his ship: Inside there's two ops stations, a hologram comm device, weapon and cargo stowage... and a nice beverage of some sort! Hope you like it! Feedback much appreciated.
  3. Hey Everyone, Between work and a semi-dark age it’s been some time since I last posted anything here. This is a pet project I’ve been turning over for a while now and at last is ready to share! The Spinner police car features in Ridley Scott’s 1983 neo-noir film, Blade Runner. The Spinner is an “aerodyne” vehicle, capable of driving on the ground or using its powerful jets to carry it into the air and traverse the bleak cityscape of 2019 Los Angeles. Futurist Syd Mead designed the Spinner and was a guest speaker at LEGO company back in 2002. He was gifted a fantastic LEGO Technic model of the vehicle and ever since seeing photos of it I dreamed of creating my own minifigure scaled version. I first created the model in LEGO Digital Designer, working through several revisions to get the details right. When it came to sourcing the parts, I found that small few simply weren’t available in blue and had to resort to colouring these myself. Decals were essential to capture the distinctive markings – just wish I could create clear film versions like LEGO do! I've created two minifigures to go witht he Spinner: Deckard, the main protagonist of Blade Runner and Gaff, his detective colleague, both with accessories. The Spinner features opening doors on both side. I've uploaded this to LEGO Ideas where it's still waiting approval and I'll update this thread when / if that happens. If you like it please support it. Link to Brickshelf gallery with lots more pictures. Thanks for looking!

    My AT-ST MOC

Hey everyone, I've just uploaded new photos of my AT-ST on Brickshelf. After being disappointed by Lego's second attempt at the wallker, I decided to build my own version... and it fits two pilots too Here's the first exterior shot: Front: Another quarter view: Front detail: The rear of the 'head': Detaching the top and back to access the interior: Interior with two pilots... ...and without. Top hatch opened with pilot ready for a fight! Here's the link to my gallery (when moderated): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=336664 Please take a look and feel free to comment. Cheers!

    [SWBP] – Phoenix Squadron

I like this! Very much in the Battle Pack style. The dropship's landed form looks cool - I'd be inclined to swoosh it around like that...

    Star Wars Battle Pack Contest

Undeniably! It's less a case of relying on stickers to make it look good and more a case of creative use to add those finishing touches. For example: 7668 came with three, circular Rebel Alliance logos. They didn't alter the aesthetic, but gave the model that little extra bit of identity and were / are usable on a variety of elements in a variety of MOCs. As you can gather I have a sticker in mind for use on a particular element...

    Star Wars Battle Pack Contest

Quick query regarding this: "You can use official stickers or custom stickers for the minifigures only." No stickers on parts then? We've seen those in battlepacks before...

    Expanded Universe Contest

Thanks. My experience of EU is all through comics, graphics novels and games - although I am familiar with the characters I've not read any of the books so it'll be tricky for me to reference iconic scenes, etc. I'll ponder it some more...

    Expanded Universe Contest

Hey Guys, Great contest with loads of potential. Just wondering if you'd consider adding Dark Empire to your list? It's another series turn novel set some years after the Battle of Endor and deals with the battle against the Imperial Remnant, the return of the Emperor and his clones - it's a well known storyline and spawned two sequels itself! You can check it out here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Empire. As befits the Star Wars universe, it's got loads of amazing scenes, settings and vehicles and would be great to include in the contest too. Let me know what you think...

    UCS Helicarrier

There I was, primed to get another modular town house... and this comes along! I'm really impressed by this model. It's packed with detail and excellent great features; love the spinning turbines (wish we'd see more of this in LEGO's helicopter offerings), the micro aircraft and deck vehicles are really nice and the use of nanofigures to build out the crew and prominent personages from Shield was surprising and is an awesome touch. I think those will look great either on deck or on the bridge. I wish it didn't have stickers as I feel the asking price should cover printed elements, especially when they're so few, but feel this is mostly made up for with those lovely printed runway elements. The minifig selection is a welcome addition and look great on the display stand. Many have complained about the lack of Coulson but let's face it, he's incredibly easy to MOC. There are also quite a few complaints about it not having a minifig-scaled bridge but (without knowing exactly how deep it is) I'm sure this could be modded to accommodate them. I do agree that power functions should've been included given that they're so prominently called out in the video, will just have to give my wrist a work out every tie I want to see those turbines spin. :) I think all in all Marcus has done a great job in bringing us this. All I have to do now is come up with a purchase plan!

MOC - Blade Runner Police Spinner 44

Thanks for the positive comments! It looks like my LEGO Ideas story has ended for now. I resubmitted the project separating it from the franchise, instead focusing on the work of Syd Mead, but unfortunately this wasn't enough for it to pass the review process. I'll likley try again in the future. In the meantime, I'll finish off the LDD model - including all the amendments I made to the physical model - and once that's done I'll upload it somewhere so anyone who'd like to build there own version can do so. Get your blue spraypaint on standby!

MOC - Blade Runner Police Spinner 44

The movie is a classic… you should definitely add it to your to-watch list. Neo-noir they call it - has such a great feel to it. Thanks for your kind comments!

MOC - Blade Runner Police Spinner 44

Thank you very much! The front prongs / wheel housings were especially hard to get right - I went though many , many iterations of those. At one point while working on the LDD model, I realised I couldn't swing the doors open too! Now there's a nie little slot they fit into with a dome piece to provide friction and "lock" the doors closed. Cheers. Unfortunately this hasn't been approved yet (see comments above). If it makes it through I'll be sure to post a link.

MOC - Blade Runner Police Spinner 44

Yes, I'd have thought so too. Lord of the Rings and Batman explore some very dark themes and display disturbing imagery but are fully licensed (and of course, awesome). This wasn't so much supposed to be a a representation of a the film or scene within the film directly, rathermore a recreation of a fantastically designed vehicle by a legendary artist, Syd Mead. As I mentioned above, Mead himself gave a talk at LEGO and was given a model of the Spinner by the design team! Their decision is made however, so I've resubmitted the project, removing any reference to Blade Runner (and the photos with the minifigs specifically) and try to make it about the vehicle itself and a homage to a great artist, as it was always intended to be. Here's hoping... Thanks, glad you like it!

MOC - Blade Runner Police Spinner 44

That's really nice of you sir, thanks! Unfortunately the idea has not been approved for LEGO Ideas at this time primarily because of the nature of the subject film. I'm going to remove all inferences to this, focusing specifically on the design itself and try resubmitting it. Fingers crossed!

    [MOD] Ghost improved

Got and built this set yesterday, straight away added some rudimentary landing - makes all the difference when displayed!

    [MOD] Ghost improved

The "messy" plating doesn't bother me in terms of making the Ghost feel more weathered, but the modifications you've made to the nose/cockpit area are very nice indeed. Good work!
  22. I've attached the image I'm referring to below. You can see in the top left image the exposed engines of the Phantom. The Phantom's build makes more sense to me if this is an option too; both it's hind section and the rear compartment of the Phantom appear to be 8 studs long but I can't be sure as I don't own it... until tomorrow.
  23. Hey, great review, thanks very much for sharing. One thing that intrigues me: from the concept art of the combined Ghost/Phantom it appears the Phantom docks nose first into the Ghost, it's engines exposed and aligned with the Ghost's own engines. I've not seen this anywhere else, but given the Phantom can be split into 2, can the rear section alone be docked with the Ghost, engines outwards, to give a more authentic representation of the combined ships?
  24. Just picked up 9516 Jabba's Palace for £70 on Amazon. Awesome bargain. If you don't have it already... RUN, NOW!

    REVIEW: 75016 Homing Spider Droid

Nice reveiw Artanis, thanks. I like the Homing Spider Droid's design in general and this is a good improvement in it's overall shape although it sounds like the posing problem from the original set (or spider on ice skates dilemna as I like to call it) stills persists. Adi Gallia is a good addition to the traditionally styled LEGO minifigures but I sincerely wish the SBDs would get an update - LEGO's poseable figures have come a LONG way since 2002. I'm not so keen on the Dwarf Spider Droid model - the solution to the feet don't do it for me but this is easily modded. I'll hold off buying this at full price but will keep an eye out for any price drops.
