I like to think that the "Starlight Inn" is like the Prancing Pony, but with a "Saturday Night Fever" feel. A fantasy style inn, maybe some sleeping accomodation upstaris? Also the Secret marketplace...an Elvish Diagon Alley? Ah, the opportunities!

New LEGO Parts and colors for Summer 2015
Velouria replied to henrysunset's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It certainly looks like it! -
That green fence element is all over the treehouse set, so not exactly new? The half Ionic curl part is in one of the most recent small Friends sets. Can't wait to get my hands on lots of those!

The Amazon listings have been removed. I found a Polish blog that lists prices in euros for these sets, which should give an idea of how large they are. Elves Emily Jones and the Wind Dragon Baby (41171) – EUR 9.99 Water Dragon Adventure (41172) – EUR 24.99 Elvendale Dragon School (41173) – EUR 19.99 Starlight Inn (41174) – EUR 29.99 Fire Dragon Lava Cave (41175) – EUR 39.99 The Secret Marketplace (41176) – EUR 59.99 It sounds nice enough, and I really liked the series 1 of Elves- bought all of them. Did not care as much for series 2 though. But it's good to see that the Elves haven't been shelved.

So...What now? No upcoming sets for this theme as far as I know, and the year is progressing... Does anyone know when sets for the holiday season are usually announced? I wonder how well these sets actually sell, considering that I have seen them on sale quite a lot. Anyway, I hope it's not the end of the line for the Elves, as I really like them...

I don't think I will buy either of these sets. They both cost more than I want to spend, and especially the Pegasus set seems priced too high for what it is. I would have estimated it as a 35 euro set, and not a 45 euro one. Poor value, and slightly clumsy looking in real life. The set is comparable to the Adventure Ship set content-wise, which I thought was great value- it has about the same number of pieces, and there is no excuse to pricing it 12 euros higher. The horses are nice, but they don't make up for a 12 euro price difference.

I was in a shop today that had one of those little display cases with the Pegasus set and part of the castle set in it. The sets themselves weren't there yet, but there were interesting empty spots on the shelf above it- these sets may be on the market sooner than we think. Cue lousy photography...

Fabulous! Allow me to add this to the post-apocalyptic fun...This Friend is maybe not so friendly.

Velouria the Mad Scientist's Minidoll Vivisection thread
Velouria replied to Velouria's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
the butchery of innocent minidolls continues. As many have noted, the articulation of these figures is not ideal. There have been attempts to rectify this, as customizers Darkdragon and Brandon Bannerman show in this blog post. But I thought there was a simpler way to articulate the legs. I used 4 things. A pin, a drill as thin as a pin, a little bit of glue and a little bit of two component epoxy clay. I used the clay to fill in the hole in the pelvis part. The thing about epoxy clay is that it gets extremely hard. (I use apoxie sculpt but milliput or magic sculp would work too) A hole was drilled trough the whole essembly. A small dimple was drilled on one leg for the head of the pin, and a small drop of two component glue was inserted in the other. And then it was assembled and clamped and left to set. To my surprise this did the trick quite well. The trick is having a drill bit thin enough, so the inserted pin has enough friction. I also did her wrists, which again work with a piece of a pin held in by friction. I had trouble centering the drill precisely, so the wrist and the hand do not align well enough. Better luck next time! But the method works fine. This young lady can now hunt zombies while dancing the can can. -
What fits in/around minifig wrists?

They have, but especially the male minidolls are rare and come in the more expensive sets. I would also like to lay my hands on the long-skirted ones that come with the Disney princess sets- But I don't want to buy these sets, they are far too pink for my taste. Maybe I should look on some of the trading sites... -
Wow, just WOW!

MOC the Crystal Island of the Elves
Velouria replied to Velouria's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Lordofdragonss, I think you are right there, and I will look into that. I have acquired the parts now. It's the hanging gardens of Babylon now, is it? -
You can thin nail-polish with a special thinner if needed. It depends a little- there's a lot of difference between individual colors and brands. Especially light colors tend to be too sheer. But it's great for metallic colors, as these tend to have good coverage, and they are cheap to come by at the drug store. And yes, they hold on to the plastic extremely well- better than acrylics I would say. But it may take a bit of experimentation. Two gold nail polishes I have here that match well are H&M "golden treasure" and Bourjois 1 seconde no. 18. No idea if they still sell these. I'm a bit of a nail polish collector Also, I have here on my desk Vallejo Model Color "oro" 70.996 (FS17043). This is a slightly pale gold that matches my gold pearl parts quite well, the only problem is that it is a little sheer and several layers are needed for a good coverage. You're never going to get that same slight transparency, but this is close.

Elves minidolls into minifigs
Velouria replied to Dorayaki's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Actually...I would like myself some more minidolls.... -
There's one thing I use a lot, and that's nail polish. It stays on extremely well, and it should not be too hard to find a gold one with a pearly sheen.

It's a fight I would love to see. Naida and Aira's water and wind powers against good old fashioned gun powder. Natural enemies!
