As I feel this is the final improvements to this version (but I'll keep you posted if there's anything new) of my original snowspeeder, here is another comparison between Lego's recent and underwhelming snowspeeder and ScottishDave's impressive & generous rework of Larry Lars' most famous snowspeeder—analyze below… I look forward to hearing feedback from y'all! As you can also see above each snowspeeder is fairly on the same scale, dimensions almost 19 x 20 studs between each :D

I agree. Their recent snowspeeder 75049-1 (2014) hasn't dramatically change in design from the one release back in 2003 (4500-1). 10+ years and we are only given new play features, some more minifigures, etc., and few minor improvements in details and build!

Hey, I am glad you like! Indeed this snowspeeder has traveled far to where it is now. Likewise, it appears to me that clean white seems visually impressive in regards to other colors and aspects on the aircraft, as opposed to the gray elements that are scattered across and distract attention from features like the laser cannons and other things. I didn't want too much gray that it looks like a camouflage pattern, or too little that it seems unnecessary, but ultimately, I guess it just doesn't look right—clean white it is! Thanks! Thanks for sharing your opinion—I value hearing from others! I judge, uniform white is the best option too; I couldn't do so much gray or it would make wedge brick at front out of place, because the closest snowspeeder color it comes in is white. Glad you like it better than Lego's. Maybe it will pressure them to reboot their approach in future products?

Indeed, I have recently changed some minor aspects of the cockpit, exclusively the two white curved slopes, which were atop the gunner section of the cockpit, with a 1 x 4 and radiator grilles. Also when I plan to build the real thing I will swap out the windscreen at front with the new Speed Champions 4 x 5 x 1 1/3 windscreen, so you won't see all those unsightly gaps like so… Additional changes by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Additional changes by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Additional changes by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Thanks!

More updates… YAY! There's a since of knowing that the final design draws near and the model is thereafter completed. Revision updates are infrequent and improvements are minimal (yet always considerable), and the model is looking phenomenal, progressively as updates come along… Finally… The back vanes have been corrected to a more accurate design. Back Vanes revised by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Back vanes revised by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Back vanes revised by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Likewise I also revised the bottom to complement the shapes of the back vanes. Back vanes revised by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr You may have also notice I replace the 3 x 1 slope elements with their 4 x 1 relatives; upon reconsideration @ Bob De Quatre suggestion. Previously I did not approach this idea because I dislike the stepped pattern (which they are currently in now) and how I primarily wanted to use them, like the 3 x 1's before, would unnecessarily lengthen the wings and decrease the slope that I felt is parallel with that of an actual studio model. Curiously, I notice the slope of 3 x 1s stacked aside each other was not linear (the slope seem to grow ever so steeper), and ultimately the studs exposed on the outsides of the wing appeared unappealing for a SNOT snowspeeder. Basically, I replace the 3 x 1s with 4 x 1s and did a side by side comparison between the two slopes… Slope comparison by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Tangerine to oranges, they look like the same to me ;—) Thank for your time and be sure share your thoughts on the progress so far!

I am impressed with the idea that the vanes are studless and smooth while also thin unlike other styles, which appear to me rather clunky, unsightly with either studs or the underside of plates, or a combination of both. I am compelled to also utilize these elements to improve my snowspeeder's back vanes, because they need serious help .

@ ecmo47: Cool mods! The back engine vanes look impressive indeed. I plan to make the vanes on mine more accurate to the models some time on. I also like the transparent stand you have for the snowspeeder and the Hoth display with Cavegod's UCS AT-AT is "fantascinating!" If you like so, you can use the cockpit design and adapt to your speeders—and if you didn't notice the 57783 windscreen is just a placeholder for the 18972 windscreen, which will nicely cover up the unsightly 1 plate height atop the front section of the cockpit. Now I really want to finish my AT-AT more so!

Besides the fact that using a longer piece I would dramatically lose the necessary wing width for the energizers, the slope of this element is in general not sharp enough to represent the proper angle of the actual wing of a snowspeeder. See link: reference image (by the way I do not know how to acquire a large photo from another site and resize it to the eurobricks standards). Thanks!

Likewise, accommodated with those intriguing energy converters and laser barrels, the whole set is exceptionally complementary to the angle of the wings! Thanks!

Air brake feature implemented! Air brake feature implemented! by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Yes. This detail has finally been actualize in the design, with no compromise of other details featured at the rear laser energizer tower. You might also notice that the wings have been angled more diagonally. This is so in order that the inner slope of the rear laser energizer tower be angled more horizontally as accurate to the studio model(s). Air brake feature implemented! by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Air brake feature implemented! by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Air brake feature implemented! by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Air brake feature implemented! by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr Yes cliché, as many snowspeeders before have featured the 2 x 2 flag element. Even more so, this is Lego's foremost approach to this detail for their stock snowspeeders, (which their aircraft is continually frowned upon by many for obvious reasons). Personally for me, the phenomenon of this recycled method is that, once closed it lines up perfectly flush with the rest of the laser tower energizer and colors accordingly. You might say it's not accurate in certain aspects as compared to the models, but from model to Lego, it's a wonderful compromise; especially when snowspeeder sticklers deem it an essential part to even be considered a snowspeeder. So its better to have it than not have it! What do you think?

Thanks! But it just happens I have made several more updates after this one, specifically the power converter, to the final stage energizer tower, then the laser barrel—it looks pleasurably "beefy" in these revised areas, and even more so accurate. See below… More updates… again by Mr. Busy Hands, on Flickr I would issue the new file but I can see more updates down the road. Speaking of outdated files I will remove them for now and replace them when I know the snowspeeder is absolutely finish.

Thanks! I am greatly proud of the ideal design I came to accept, and at a time, enjoyed building against the challenges presented prior to what's now achieve (I gratefully laugh at my first design )! NOT TO SOUND CONCEITED IN ANY WAY Hopefully, I am correctly giving you the answer to your opinion… If the nose between the wing looks peculiar in any way, this might be due to the entities brick and plate existing simultaneously to clean up a mutual job of unsightly gaps, while also accommodating the "sloping, trapezoidial, wedge brick," which will conveniently display the detail pattern on the front of the snowspeeder. This being done was probably the only way to get the right angles and eliminate gaps as much possible. Real bricks are up next; I'll also see to incorporating air breaks on the gun tower or energizer! Also too, thanks for sharing your reverse-engineered snowspeeder—excellent component!

Playing Rogue Squadron II lately? that sounds like fun! I have a demo version of Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike and frequent the nostalgic gameplay of taking down the AT-AT walkers (and most other times postponing the mission to admire the awesomeness of them ). Well at last here is the final design of the snowspeeder . I'll publish the file shortly, but I first wanted to hear your opinion on the latest version and if you had any improvements you would recommend?
