  2. My model for the TC 26 contest. Wondering what to build this time I was looking through old Lego Arctic sets on the internet. I came across the 60194 model and immediately noticed its original chassis with tracks at the front. I thought it might work in Lego City, but I don't think it will work in Technic. But it was worth trying. From the very beginning, I had doubts about whether it would be possible to maintain the rigidity of the system. That's why I started the construction with the front suspension. It turned out that it wasn't as bad as I thought at first. The steering system worked and gave hope that it would also work well in the finished model. Besides, my stock of orange bricks allowed me to build without having to buy anything. The model has a snow bike and for this, I decided to add a loading crane to it, which was not in the original model. In addition, I have seen trailers on skids in other sets from this series. That's why I decided to build a trailer and a story for the model. Some time ago, an exceptionally heavy meteor shower fell on the earth. Most of them fell in the Arctic. That is why scientists from all over the world set off in special vehicles to collect meteorites in huge snowy areas. The model has 4 motors, 2x PFXL for the drive, 1x PFM for turning, and 1xPFM for the crane. The power supply is from the buwizz cube. The body detaches from the carriage using only 6 pins. The steering wheel works when turning. Initially, differentials were installed on the drive wheels, but after testing on snow, I gave up on them. At the rear of the vehicle is a fake V8 engine. I wanted to take it to some nice motoring event, to a photo and video session, but it didn't work out. This is what the prototype looked like. Then I waited a long time for the stickers and finally I decided to take it apart and that was the last moment to publish it, so here it is. Now, it's not unusual to make WRC cars out of city cars, see e.g. Toyota Yaris. But in the 1980s, more representative models were chosen as bases for rally cars. Meanwhile, MG used probably one of the most boring cars in history, the Austin Metro, as the basis for building this monster. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Metro The effect, surprisingly, was amazing: one of the most iconic rally cars in history was created. The model is not particularly original and full of innovative solutions, especially since it is already 7 years old. But there are a few curiosities that hide. First of all, it has four-wheel drive and independent suspension of all wheels, which with the width of the car required the use of floating differentials (they move with the suspension), and while at the rear it did not cause any special problems, at the front it required the use of a steering system floating together with the differential. And it wasn't that easy, especially since I wanted to have the steering wheel still working. In the end, it all worked out, but the front suspension only becomes fully rigid when the body is fitted. It was my first model with a body designed from the beginning as an easily removable structure. It can be removed after removing the 6 pins. At one time, I was very pleased with the simple mechanism of latching the doors and the complicated way of installing the panel above the front wheel arch.
  7. The bus was created on the basis of a light truck Gaz 53, for many years of production a dozen or so different variants differing in details were created. Mainly due to changing transport regulations and the need to adapt the construction to them. The vehicle was very simple and clumsy, in my opinion, its biggest drawback was the large overhang at the back, which meant that the last seats could fly out like from a catapult on larger holes. In spite of the simplicity of the original design, I decided to equip my model with advanced electronics in the form of a new Mindstorms set. The mindstorms hub has six outputs, two I used to connect the XL control + to the drive, and the mindstorms motors were used to turn the wheels, change gears, open the door and rotate the drum with the names of the villages. In the original bus, the doors were opened manually but with a lever accessible from the driver's seat. That's why I designed it so that it looks like the driver is opening the passenger door. The gearbox is a modification of the layout known from Land Rover, therefore it has only one orange control ring. The steering system is another variant of the virtual pivot solution, thanks to the mindstorms motor, it is very compact and thanks to the stabilizing rollers it is quite stiff. The most difficult part during construction was the transition between the hood and the passenger compartment, keeping the proportions of the original and keeping the stiffness. It is impossible to fit there, these wheel arches from Volvo are much too long. By stuffing all the mechanisms in the chassis and under the ceiling, I was able to keep the interior clean and true to the original. Under the hood is a fork-eight powered by a chain. My observations after building this bus are that the mindstorms engines and controls are a bit of a shortcut. Instead of constructing a stepper motor or some reduction mechanism or even a clutch, it is enough to program the sequence of movements, the angle of rotation and the speed. So mechanically, you do not have to strain, in addition, these motors can be very easily used as structural elements.   8. This time something small and simple. The first version of this imperial walker was created for the Festival of Mundanity competition on Flickr. It was about building the most boring vehicle/object in the world. The model in the original version was not successful in the competition. After all, it was about building a vehicle that was only supposed to pretend to be a bus. For this reason, I also had no qualms about using black panels and yellow stickers instead of building posts on the windows. Tilting sides had to be made of panels because with the length of the model almost 70cm and competition restrictions on the number of engines I could not overdo it with weight. To build the frame I reached for the solution I used earlier in my URAL 5920 light rigid and with a small thickness of 3 studs. On the frame is mounted a transfer gearbox consisting of two worm gears and gears that reduce the speed at the engine input and accelerate at the output on linear actuators. It took me a lot of work to choose the gears in such a way that using only one engine to achieve simultaneous closing of the side sides, a rocket with a roof and tailgate. The key to success was the use of six pairs of z36 and z12 gears connected in the side lifting mechanism so that they could be moved apart throughout the construction period. This solution enabled a very precise calibration of the closing process of all 4 elements. When I succeeded, I added a mechanism for lifting and rotating the cabin, both based on worm gears. Finally, I built a steering mechanism, a V12 engine and retractable stop signs, also on the screws. So the model has as many as 6 worm gears, my record. The sides after full opening adhere perfectly to the ground and form a very stable starting platform, so there was no need to install additional supports. The mechanism of lifting the rocket after full opening activates the light brick, such a gadget imitating ignition. When the operator's cabin is turned in the take-off position, you can still quickly close the rocket to protect it from bad weather conditions. The whole weight of 3 kg is 70 cm long and 16.5 cm wide and holds the proportions of the Blue Bird bus, maybe it is too wide by one stud. I did not manage to reproduce the rear bumper because the moving elements overlap and I had to fit there the "hand of God" to control. I decided to start in the competition on December 20, the model was created basically in two Christmas weeks, then I was just refining the details and looking for the missing bricks

A few years ago we had an identical competition on the Polish forum Lugpol. But I did not give advice in it to start. But that's when I caught my eye with the 8462 set. It came from a time when Lego technic models didn't really like it, but today I see a lot of potential in it. This futuristic vehicle is still controversial today, but I think the panels available today will give it a cool form. I'll try to add some features to it.
