LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

Yea S@H usually sells out a couple weeks before the next series comes out. I've never seen two series at US Toys R us but then again I rarely shop at TRU. Borders I've heard still has series 2 and everything is being discounted cause borders is closing down. I think its like 20% off but they are initially marked up to at least 4 bucks I think. So if you want series 2 I would say hurry to borders as that is still a cheaper buy than most bricklink and ebay sellers. Series 3 you can still find at walmarts and TRU although I haven't come across any lately (again I haven't really been looking). Then of course last resort is bricklink and ebay were you can surely complete all series, but be prepared to pay a higher price. -

TLG seems to be doing a really good job of keeping to the release date this time around. Maybe they chewed out the people who released them early. I would have expected to see them floatin around SOMEWHERE, not considering the two ebay sellers. Series 2 came out in the US like what a month early? and series 3 came out at least a month early, I think it was closer to two months early. I've been checking various web pages for any sightings multiple times a day but I'm beginning to accept that I'll have to wait till april 15th or whatever the release date is... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

At the guy who posted that 2 page essay on the lego weapons, the pitchfork already exists. I can't tell if the new one is any different tho. was hoping to find more corrections but couldn't imagine finishing reading that. I hope series 5 isn't the last series, but maybe they'll do something like they do with the pirate sets. Discontinue them for a while and every couple of years bring them back. Although I can kinda see why they would want to quit after 5. To me they're losing their novelty. Having all 3 series myself, I find it very hard to display them all and can't imagine what I'm gonna do with 32 more. Furthermore I think I now have more china made figures than original lego figs! I know there's always an ongoing debate about whether the quality is any different, well I can notice it, especially the dull yellow color. I used to imagine series 1 as a supplement to my minifig collection, I could add a couple CMFs to what ever theme they fit best, but now they have grown in such numbers that they pretty much have BECOME my minifig collection. So as much as I would like more, because I get very addicted to them, I would like them to slow down, even two series a year but with more availability. -
hahah I'm a little late on replying to this, found this threat by doing a google search. If any does reply I got a couple questions, is that ambassador only ever sold as a key chain? and has anyone tried boiling the head to weaken the glue and remove the head from helmet/hat? I just did this technique on a dwarf that I got, and I would like to swap helmets for one from brickforge, that way there would be no hole, I wanna try to boil it but I'm afraid it will remove the print on the face or color on the helmet. If anyone has any experience with this let me know, if not I'll just patch up the hold and use some games workshop paints or something

OMG after seeing the movie TWICe, once in IMAX 3D other time in D-box theatre 3D, THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME If they came out with lego version of this I would buy every single set made, probably multiples. To me it makes total sense, no crazy figures to make like pirates of the Caribbean or toy story, no crazy buildings really, and its something that has a definite end, not like star wars sets and city sets, I think of all the disney legos this one would be the best transition, they should definitely reconsider.

Yea the list sounds very Plausible, but there are things wrong with it...(I do acknowledge the source seems to be credible) There are a lot of sports theme in it, but it was inevitable for a soccer player/football player to be released, so I'll buy that. The number of female figures seems spot on too. The re-release of skater and surfer seem curious, but they were very neat accessories and very popular, so perhaps I think my biggest problem is the horror theme. Warewolf seems possible, especially after the vampire in series 2. A monster also sounds cool, hopefully something like Frankenstein, but I don't know how they'll get around the copywrites for that. The problem I see is releasing a MONSTER AND MAD SCIENTIST, they seem to pair together WAY to closely. but then again the life guard and surfer in series 2 was also a match made in heaven. The sailor I am not too sure about. It's obvious TLG has steered away from any real WAR type themes, and I think a Sailor (if its like a traditional guy in a white navy suit) is getting too close to war themes...Maybe it is an older sailor, kinda like a pirate? And the Safety suit guy? I really hope its a Hazmat suit, seems a little "Mature" for the average kid lego fan... But who knows? maybe he'll have a cylindrical mask with a clear visor, and maybe even an air tank! Those two accessories would definitely boost him to a fan favorite. Nonetheless I would be very pleased if this list is correct. Definately looking forward to Musketeer Viking, warewolf, monster, Hockey player and soccer player. -

I wonder if they will be release a month early like series 3.... Well at least in the US series 2 was supposed to be released in September, but I found them in CA at a lego store in late August. So hopefully these will be accessible late December! A little more detail... I think they release date was supposed to be September 7th or 6th I got them August 22nd I think. If something similar is planned for this series, I'm not sure if it would work.. Releasing on December 22nd?! Doesn't seem like they would release so close to Dec. without PLANNING for the Xmas rush. Any thoughts? -

That happened to me once, I went to a store and found like a brand new box, I was looking at the barcodes and was surprised to see them all the same! I thought maybe the factory lumped all the left over extras into a box so it had all of the same figure, I was about to leave when I checked one more time, I then realized I was looking at the barcodes from the wrong direction...Maybe it happened to you too? -

Wow AWESOME find! I agree, I always like the elf but this pic might have placed him in my number 1 favorite! The chain mail print on his torso an legs looks SICK! And I am pretty sure the pilot has the old school brown backpacks from the Imperial soldiers/Gaurds from 80-90s pirate sets. Thats cool, I love those packs Forgot to mention, is anyone else disappointed the samurai doesn't come with the horns that the original samurais had? It looks weird with that clip on his helmet but nothing to clip onto it. -
So reading through here I realized I forgot to add a comment about Pirate sets! So I went back to see if I could take it again and could, interestingly, they had a new set of Ideas to choose from, a couple were repeated. Just thought you guys would want to know, if you didn't already. Oh and I basically told them to re release old pirate sets and/or new blue coat sets!

Im actually kinda glad there wont be bar codes now...Im sure everyone is going to hate me for this, but I was a spartan hoarder. I advocated against hoarding on brickset for a long time, but only 1 or 2 people agreed with me, many made fun of me and just came up with arguments about stocking up to trade, or for MOCs and some just said if you put in the work, then you deserve it. Well they didn't actually convince me, but I decided to hunt down spartans so the AFOLs in my area wouldn't be able to find any and then they would see how it felt! I put many miles on my car doing so, and had many wasted trips, and hit targets/walmarts over 100 mile stretch! (The rest of my family lives about 100 miles north of me, so i just killed two birds with one stone basically.) All in all, I got 54 spartans, 2 complete sets (one opened, one bagged), duplicates of ones I may need for future mocs, (surfers, vamps, pharo, mexican) and actually a few other spares for trading or whatever. The whole ordeal was very exhausting, and expensive. But I did get an amazing thrill, the excitement of walking into a store and seeing the blue bags staring at you from the end of the aisle, I even had talking to employees/customer service and getting them to pull them from the stock room down to a science! I felt bad a lot as well, as my initial reason for advocating against hoarding was I was afraid it would take away from the kids legitimately trying to complete sets without bar codes, I would feel really bad if a little kid was always harassing his parents to take him to the store in hopes of finding the spartan he was missing, and it never being there. Well the only way I justified some of my actions, is that out of the dozens of stores I went to, only 2 times did I ever completely take ALL the spartans they had. I would either leave one box untouched, or leave at least one spartan behind. So conclusion, Its not that I didn't enjoy hoarding, I kinda did, and would probably hoard the elfs if I could. See I don't have the self restraint, I actually got a complete set back in august when they were supposed to be released in the states sometime in september. And I felt that it was too easy getting the set so that's kinda what sparked my hunt as well, I needed the challenge. Basically, without the barcodes, I CANT hoard, and that's good for everybody, including myself. If I could do it again I probably would, but I don't want to, so now I can't. -
I understand that maybe having Pirates as a continuous set may harm its popularity, (continuous as in Lego City sets which are always available) but they should definitely be reoccurring at least every other year! Not wait like 10 years! If they even made similar sets to before, but had blue coats instead of read, I could die happy...well maybe not that extreme, but it would be freaking awesome! Also, I noticed that the most recent pirates sets had (if im not mistaken and excluding battle packs and the such) unique pirates in every set! Even tho it was the same face, torso, and legs, they were always arranged so that you wouldn't get a duplicate pirate (exception being the captain) that was really sweet in that I found myself collecting pirates instead of redcoats! Normally I buy the sets for the imperials. So lego, please bring pirates back soon. Don't let PoTC take over. I'm not really a fan of flesh colored legos anyways... Signed.

Does anyone else want the baseball bat to recreate mafia scenes? I dunno about anyone else, but I'm dying to get that bat, maybe recreate The Untouchables when Robert Dinero bashes in that guys head lol. I just need to buy some lego guys in suits from bricklink to get the mafiosos. -

thats very interesting...I am surprised at your attention to detail on this. Maybe next time you can look into the crystal structure of the material lattice and look for differences there :D Haha jk, but seriously I'll check some of those things you pointed out. -

So today I went back to my parents house and compared the 2 original blacktron figures to the Rench figure from space police. I was surprised to see the similarities, its really cool how they did this cameo appearance for the AFOLs, so I've become pretty excited for the Cyborg in series 3. On a different note, I also realized how sad I was that the CMF don't have the neck printing. My original blacktron guy has no head or pack, so I'm basically comparing the body (white chest with green B) and of course the legs... Anyways this reminded me of the neck printing. I always notice LEGO's neck printing, and I remember once seeing someones "signature" being a picture of LEGO minifigure neck compared to some off brands neck, the difference was no neck printing, and the quote that went with the signature was something like "beware of cheap Chinese knock offs" Well this signature is what initially brought me into question of the CMF's quality. I know we already discussed the quality but I was just curious to see if anyone else felt the same way. Basically, I saw this signature and quote before Series 1 came out. So when I got series one and started collecting them, I soon noticed the lack of neck printing, then I looked it up online and thats how i got involved in the whole plastic quality debate. Anyone else got similar stories? I just thought I'd share mine. -

Actually, I wonder if kids even think this guys looks bad. Maybe to us AFOLs he looks bad but for all we know kids may be loving it, My main issue is the peg leg. I like the idea of a cyborg, but they should have used a new helmet, gun, and leg, or at least 2 of those 3. Maybe then AFOLs would appreciate him more. But from a childs stand point they may actually think he's cool, I mean, half man half robot lego guy sounds pretty cool. So maybe the cyborg is to appeal to kids, while the Blacktron logo is meant to appeal to AFOLs?? -

Sweet thanks. So the cyborg definitely has the green B on his chest. I wonder if they made him look horrible then put the Blacktron symbol on him because then they knew people would go after him even if he looks bad. Cause now I will...and I don't even collect blacktron figures I just had a couple as a kid and those guys were my favorite space figures, dressed in all black with their black visors, they looked hella sick. I wonder if this means they will remake older figures, like pirates or imperials. -

I know people are probably sick of hearing this, but I'm going to address the quality issue and break it down to help more people understand. 1st The weight. If you take a minifigure, strip him of accessories, and do the same with a minifig from a set, hold one in each hand, you should notice a difference. Be sure to switch hands as you are comparing them too so your dominate hand doesn't fool you. 2nd The plastic. Its clear that they use Chinese parts, its written on the bag. If you look at their heads, you should notice a slight difference in the yellow color. Older figures have a more vibrant yellow color. Also, have you ever heard someone refer to LEGOs as having that "new brick shine" That's something I don't really see as well on the CMF. Again, you can look at the head to compare the shine. Other evidence of cheaper plastic is the transparency, look at the surfers legs at a light, or even the weightlifters. You can see there are translucent. 3rd The mold You can see more of a mold line on the legs than other figures. There is a definite line down the legs where the two halves of the mold are placed together. While this can be seen on older figures, I don't think its as noticeable. Also, people have mentioned the strange mold mark on under the arm, by the arm pit. Old figures do not have this. And yes I noticed the the Spartans spear, its definitely flexible, I like it this way tho, not a big deal. 4th Joints I don't think CMF have been around long enough for people to use them and see if the joints are really weaker. I have more than 80 CMF (granted not all are opened yet) and have yet to see any come out of the package with weak joints or missing parts. So this is something left to be seen. Conclusion. The molds are probably why they have to use cheaper plastic. TLG obviously had to make new molds for some of these figures, so how could they afford this if they use the same plastic? Remember, they are sold for $2. Now if you think to the LEGO stores where they let you build figures, the price to build is 3 for $10. And With $10 you can get 5 CMF!! So they are obviously cheaper than original figures WITH new accessories that require new molds. So, they had to cut costs in the plastic department. Now the big issue, is this a problem? For me, no. There may be a few people that will not want to mix CMF with old figures because of this difference, but I find that chance really slim. I mean, with the head accessories and all, you cant really tell the difference unless u strip the figures down and examine them. I will just be using the figures for display, and maybe MOCs. I've already seen MOCs with old and new figures and there's nothing that stands out, so while I recognize the differences, I'm glad they did it to keep costs at 2 bucks. Will TLG start using cheaper plastic in regular sets? That's definitely something I am worried about. I am afraid they will see the profit margin they are getting with the CMF and decide to slowly incorporate cheaper plastic to regular sets. They are already doing this with some sets, mainly any set that requires a new mold. Like rock monsters, aliens, or Atlantis if I'm not mistaken. But then again they will have to allocate more funds into customer support, because I imagine with the more wide spread of cheaper plastic, there is bound to be faults somewhere. We'll have to wait and see, but maybe the people here are right that the TLG is different and actually cares about quality over their profits. Note: For comparison, I used many series 2 minifigures, and series 1 skater, against 2000 sets such as Castle. I also referenced the 1980s forestmen to get even older plastic in the mix. Speaking of which, the forestman from series 1 DOES HAVE A NEW BOW! Its difference is really minuet, but the angle of the bow string is different and the feathers at the arrow are smaller and also transparent if you hold them to light.
