    What's your latest acquisition?

So out of curiosity: are these sets purchased to build or to pillage for parts?
  2. Thanks: I've been looking at a few of these sets. I think that there may be a couple (Tower of Orthanc or Helm's Deep) could hold the most bang for my buck, especially if they are in complete (i.e. on the cheap) I read the list. Definitely a big help. I would assume then that Avalonia would look for more colours like greys, dark greys, blues etc. for town MOC's and maybe some more brown, green, orange etc. for forest bits, yes? I have to ask if there are other recommended resources on techniques. One thing that I love are the roofs and brick walls that I see on a few (for example Legonardo's blacksmith shop. How is an effect like that achieved?!) Thanks
  3. Could be: but my kids are 5 and 3...ergo everything is bright blue, red, pink etc :) I could build some really nice elephants...or giraffes. Some of the new colours are pretty rad. Just, perhaps, not exactly what I had in mind for this hobby. The other thing is that while I do have some of my original Lego from the 80's and 90's, there are only a few pirate sets that I can pillage from. I seem to have retained much of the basic 2 x 4 x 2 bricks. On thing I did find nearly all of the pieces for was this beauty: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?O=375-2 Thanks though, I'll get going.
  4. I'm interested in joining this guild...and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the entire concept although I think I've gotten it. I've got lots of Lego...although I can initially see a problem with the fact that my 1000's of pieces are not conducive to building MOC's. I'll have to get cracking ordering individual bricks off of lego.com. If I may ask some advice: if you were starting out, with nothing (let's pretend I have no lego) what would initially order if you could? I've read the forum quite a bit and seen Derfel Cadarn's tutorial on building a village (great read BTW). I see a lot of round 1 x 1 plates in my future :) I don't want anyone to come up with ideas or anything; I just want to get going as quickly as possible and the sooner I can get some bricks I can use, the better. Conversely: if anyone wants to give me (I said give) the Ultimate Collector's Edition of the Millenium Falcon, I should be good to go for a bit. Thanks for any help and apologies if these questions seem, ah...dumb. ...And thank you Microsoft for the remarkably innovative avatar. Note to self: change this.
