Undoubtedly in my mind the climax of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the opening of the Ark of the Covenant provides viewers with quite a unique take on the wrath of God as well as some exploration with fancy special effects. While I wanted to attempt to capture some of these special effects in this MOC, I thought it best to leave the scene as a "just before things get really bad" scenario. I am sure some eyebrows will be raised in response to the inclusion of the R2-D2 and C-3PO heads... The explanation is that the pole to which Indy and Marion are tied to is shown in the movie as having some mysterious sphere on top (speculated by many to be R2's dome head). C-3PO's head made a good substitution for the ram's head that should reside on Belloq's staff. And since in the movie there is a brief Easter egg showing the droid dynamic duo in the Well of Souls (which I absent-mindedly forgot), it seemed only right that they be included in the final scene of Raiders. As always, a big thanks to all the HP builders for giving me the idea to make my own series of vignettes.

The second wave of Indiana Jones vignettes has begun! I present to you the first scene of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," where Indy attempts to make an even of the remains of Nurhachi for a diamond with crime boss Lao Che. Things are soon to go south due to Indy's being poisoned and his trusty sidekick Wu Han biting the dust. This build surprisingly took quite a while to construct due to my having to obtain just the right parts for the minifigures. There were also some delaying factors such as heavy storms and work that further delayed building time. Nonetheless, I forged on! :P As usual, big thanks to the original geniuses of the HP collab for inspiration. Cheers!

The 5th vignette! This MOC took an extra bit of time due to my having to catch up on some sleep. Nonetheless, I'm forging on! Perhaps one of the creepiest scenes from Raiders, this scene depicts Indiana Jones and close friend Sallah retrieving the Ark of the Covenant from the Well of Souls in Tanis, Egypt. Little does Indy know that he will soon have to find a way out the snake-infested (asps to be precise) pit. Thanks to all the builders from the Harry Potter vignette story collaboration for inspiring this series.)

The 4th addition to the Raiders of the Lost Ark series, this vignette proved to be quite a challenge in terms of avoiding monotony. While I'm not entirely convinced that it is overflowing with detail, I am confident that this version is 100% better than the original MOC I photographed. Slight but important changes were made in tile consistency, city layout, and even the positioning of the 1x1 round printed tile on the staff. This scene depicts Indiana Jones using the Staff of Ra to find the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. It's one of my favorite scenes not just because of the musical score, but also due to the suspense and brilliant lighting effects. Well I'm 1/8 of the way there! The 3rd Raiders of the Lost Ark vignette, this MOC proved to be quite challenging as it required that many minifigures be placed on a 12x12 base. Interestingly enough, since this is the first MOC of the series whose base is built with top studs facing up, the actual border had to be built in 13x12 studs, unlike the previous vignettes' borders. This is an unforgettable scene from the movie when Indiana Jones and love interest Marion Ravenwood find themselves in the streets of Cairo, soon to be ambushed by rival archaeologist Belloq's men. Indy also has a short-lived duel with an experienced swordsman, accompanied with some nearly deadly "monkey business." This MOC marks the beginning of a new era for me in terms of building. One that will be marked with higher quality pictures, greater attention to details, and also consistency. This little 12x12 vignette is the first of many that are to come. Inspired by the Harry Potter vignette collaboration, I decided to make my own version using various memorable scenes from the Indiana Jones movies. Irregular to see someone use loose tiles just on the backdrop for the ground, but it works very well here. Great work!

The second of eventually a collection of 12x12 vignettes showing various scenes from the Indiana Jones movies. I've set a high bar for myself... must keep building! This is the scene where Major Toht tries to get the headpiece of the Staff of Ra from a very obstinate Marion Ravenwood. Just as things are about to get really nasty, Indiana Jones comes in to save the day! Well sort of... massive gunfire follows this daring rescue within a matter of seconds. I have always wondered of what exact origin my last name “Klapheke” stemmed from, and what exactly it means. I decided to research it, and, being that some in my family are dedicated genealogists, it wasn’t long before I found the story behind it… Circa 12th century, somewhere in Müschen, near Laer, Germany. Hubertus de Rode, a knight who lived on a fief that was owned by a local bishop. The knight’s property (a mill and a house) led to some farms of a church-village, all of which was surrounded by a fence. It is speculated that Hubertus de Rode’s property was close to the edge of this fence, and that he might have been the gatekeeper, opening the “klapheck (a type of opening gate)” to visitors and townsfolk. It is most likely then that Hubertus de Rode then earned the title “Hubertus of Swing-Gate,” or “Hubertus Klapheck.” Klapheck would later change to Klapheke as the ages passed by. So there you have it. A dedication to the first Klapheke. MOC-wise I didn’t want this creation to be “run-of-the-mill” MOC (heheheh…), so I tried my best to add as many details as I was able. Special thanks to Atte and Cesbrick for heavily inspiring me. Also, big thanks to my workplace Bricks & Minifigs for supplying me extra parts to build this MOC. You guys are awesome. :D

I really like the shaping that you've done around the mid-section part of the hull there. Also, red pirate ships are becoming a rarity, so it's nice to see one for a change. I will definitely support this on LEGO ideas right now.

Well to say that this is one of the best detailed LEGO ships is an understatement. Absolutely mind-blowing detailing and parts amount. I can't even imagine getting started on something like that... I would get discouraged pretty easily in the process. The fact that you've added planes on the deck and escorting ships makes it that much more epic. I literally am clapping for you on a job well done. My hat's off to you Jim, stunning model.

Right, so, first off thank you very much! The stickers on the front are from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set (I think). The lighting is from a company called BrickLoot; link to their store: http://www.brickloot...all/lightsThe lights are powered by a USB drive and I fit them into a 7 port USB 2.0 hub that is powered by a battery pack. Given that the wires are generally pretty thin, they can be easily hidden inside of a modular building, and as you can see from the pics, they are quite effective!

My goodness, life has become busy. Five months since I have posted here. Wow. Coming to that point of MOCing where I see that it is better to sometimes go not so much for a large-scale build, but for something smaller enhanced with details.

The question of whether you should get modulars or not depends on a few things. One is if you're collecting the sets for the pieces, then I would suggest starting with the most recent releases. However, if you're going for the die-hard collector mentality, then I would say (pocket-book permitting) you could start from the beginning... I just got the Brick Bank (10251) for the pieces, and I have to say it was totally worth the price. The great thing about the modulars is that they have a wealth of pieces that allow a collector/creator to really see all of the possibilities for bricks. So, to answer your question in a direct way: I would get the latest one (10251 Brick Bank).

This MOC depicts one of my favorite Christmas carols, 'Good King Wenceslas,' which has both a wonderful sound as well as a good moral within its lyrics. I've wanted to build this scene for quite a while now; glad to have finally done it! Hope you all enjoy!
