  1. Hey, I've been messing around with this and I had a question! What tech demo did you import the pirate ship into? I can't seem to find it anywhere. EDIT: I have everything taken care of except materials. The model is in and it has the right colors, they just don't look good in the environment at all. Any tips for handling the materials so it looks a bit more realistic?

    Recommend a Movie

The Prestige for sure! A Beautiful Mind is another good one. I'm particularly fond of District 9. Pan's Labyrinth is also very good. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, of course (The World's End was good, but not as good.) Anyone here seen the Fall? It was certainly very interesting and pretty different from the usual fare...If you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend watching it without knowing much about it beforehand. It's a bit similar to Secondhand Lions but it has some stunning art direction to it.

What was the last movie you watched?

I got that, but to me it was to the point where I had to turn my brain off to ignore it. I'm that way with lots of movies, I couldn't watch Skyfall because it was so stupid, lol.
  4. I've never been too much into SimCity, though I've touched a couple of the older ones once or twice. The Legoland Game from a while back allowed you to manage your own theme park...We played that game to death. It's been a while since I played either of those but I'd think the gameplay concepts are a bit similar. And Oh. My. Gosh. LEGO Creator...I totally forgot about that. That's another one we played all the time. Good memories, lol.

These comments are really helping, guys. Thank you so much! Hmmm...It sounds like from the serious LEGO community the biggest interest would be in sets or custom pieces. Here are my thoughts on various things as of now and I'm curious as to what you guys think... Custom pieces: Outside of my league right now. Certainly something I'd love to look into if I worked my way up there, but as of now I have no experience with making them and it'd be too big of an investment. Custom Minifigures: I have a bit of experience with making custom minifigures. I made my younger sister a Legend of Zelda set with a custom Link because she's a massive Zelda and LEGO fan. However, at least at this time, I don't think it's something I'd be comfortable doing. It'd certainly be something I'd love to get into, but once again I'd have to work myself up there a bit first. Custom sets: This is something I could definitely do. I have experience in graphic design and I've previously had success in LEGO contests, so I am capable of making well presented, well designed sets. The difficulty with these would be the price. I wouldn't want them to cost an arm and a leg so I'd have to be selective with what pieces I used. I think due to the high prices it'd be hard to target them to anything but serious LEGO enthusiasts. Other items: Things like religious themed minifigure key chains would certainly be a feasible endeavor. These items would more be aimed as gifts for children who have a religious related event such as first communion, confirmation. baptism, etc...But they wouldn't appeal much to the serious LEGO fans outside of a few who bought them for their kid or family member as a novelty item, of sorts. Another idea I had was is crafting a few religious themed LEGO illustrated books. I've seen the Brick Bible before and I really wouldn't want to infringe upon that, so I wouldn't do Bible stories (sorry to any Sola Scriptura Christians.) Instead I was looking at touching upon the lives of Saints and maybe branching out to things like Saint Thomas Aquinas's five ways (it'd be difficult, but I think it could be done.) I was originally having a hard time figuring out the exact way to go about it, but I think I have a good idea in my head now. The question would be whether to attempt this before attempting other products or the other way around? My seasonal job just started up rather suddenly and a bit earlier than last year. So I've been light on free time lately. Once I get more in the swing of things I should be able to crack down and get to work on this. If it does come into frutation maybe I'd try to launch something towards the 3rd quarter of the year.

Are you the only lego fan in your family?

Haha, no...It won't be anytime too soon. It was just something that popped into our heads and we took note of. I wish I was in NZ though!

What was the last movie you watched?

Snowpiercer...Ugh, terrible. So many plot holes and things that don't make any sense. It's not exactly a pleasant movie to watch, either. 2 hours of my life I can't have back. I can't see how it was praised so highly by reviewers. A lot of user reviews on various sites seem to agree with me though, lol...Glad I'm not the only one.

    Interstellar Discussion

I loved the movie, the tone, the characters...ESPECIALLY the music. The ending was a letdown for me, though. The movie seemed to climax a lot in the middle and for the grand climax to be so muddled hurt the movie for me. Other than that it was absolutely fantastic, though.
  9. Honestly, I was totally letdown by this season. Capaldi made a FANTASTIC Doctor, but he was the only redeeming quality. Kill the Moon had an absolutely terrible premise, Clara gets really repetitive, it was filled with dramatized cheesy moments...The writing had just been all around awful. I'm not even excited for the next season anymore. I really feel like it's time for them to bring on an entirely new team for some fresh blood and fresh ideas. On a side note, the other day I was watching the trailer for Chappie...I know it's never going to happen (especially since he's not British,) but Sharlto Copley would make an INCREDIBLE Doctor. I don't know if I could think of anyone better for the role. I also joked that Dominic Monaghan should be the Doctor and Billy Boyd should be he companion...or vice versa. That was a joke though, lol.

That's awesome! My girlfriend and I already decided that at our wedding we're putting a bowl of some LEGO bricks at each table so if guests want to they can make some wacky creations and have the photographer photograph them...Maybe we should put a bride and groom minifigure with each set of bricks!

I'm surprised it hasn't turned into a debate either. The adult LEGO community is really admirable! I actually agree with most of your post there...Too many Christian churches, to me at least, lose their religion in the struggle to stay relevant (not to bash anyone's church or anything.) It's hard to explain my thinking behind the whole concept of this thread. I'm a bit different and awkward socially. There's not many jobs I'm really suited for, I'd be perfectly happy sweeping floors my whole life. People often tell you to follow what you love. I'm a longtime LEGO fan who's at least fairly adept at MOCing and I've studied a lot of various theological subjects...Recently as I've made my way through various LEGO communities, I realized it is possible to make a living out of LEGO if you know what you're doing. I'm not trying to get rich or anything like that. I just don't want to attempt jumping in without gauging what people think first. From the comments in this thread, here's what I think: There would be a small interest in various non-building set products, but the big drawing point would be the building sets. Maybe just two or three (the Nativity, the Resurrection, and maybe Noah's Ark?) Simple enough to be inexpensive, easy for kids to build but complex enough to be satisfactory to afols. Maybe an architecture set targeted towards adults, as well. A well made website with a recognizable, easy to remember name could create a decent enough internet presence to make it successful. Maybe if I got the product and website designs together and then launched it via Kickstarter?

Do you have any other hobbies?

I take and help teach a few different martial arts. I have two black blats and teach when the Master is away from the dojang. This is awesome^ My family is big on ice skating...Most of us took figure skating lessons when we were younger until we were adept skaters. We have an ice rink in our back yard every year. We're more into playing hockey than figure skating, but I recently had the epiphany that if I was ever to take up another sport figure skating would be a big contender.

Are you the only lego fan in your family?

5 of my 7 siblings were huge LEGO fans. Most of their enthusiasm has died down except for my youngest sister, who turned 9 recently. My parents struggle to understand why we're still buying more LEGO sets 20 years later. My girlfriend sometimes shakes her head at my obsession, but she's proud of it and tries to jump in when she can.

The LEGO Movie snubbed for Oscars

A lot of people won't even watch it because they think it's purely an advertisement for LEGO. I saw a lot of reviews that started off mentioning that and knocking it down for it. A lot of people went into it with that mindset. It's sad really, if you know LEGO's history and past themes you can tell it has so much more than that to it. Not to mention a lot of what's in the movie isn't even available as sets (aside from the LEGO Movie theme.)

Hmm, I've seen Trinity Toyz sets and the Brick Built Bible before. While they both had aspects that impressed me I've still been disappointed by the lack of quality presentation. The Brick Built Bible is actually what first led me to explore various LEGO related products. I was impressed by his models and scenes but wasn't a huge fan of the overall design quality of the book (page layout, cover design, things like that.) I put together this together and sent it into the Little Prince licensing agency, but they're currently working with the designer of the Little Prince Lego Ideas project and trying to get that passed. The Trinity Toys sets aren't too bad, but I feel like they lack the all around quality LEGO always brings to the table. The lack of a website and the poorer presentation (box design, etc...) are also holding them back a bit.
