  1. I’m sorry, I tried. I really did. But I couldn’t leave well enough alone. 1. That set isn’t terrible in the slightest, in fact I’d say it’s one of the better UCS sets because it’s pricepoint was lower than the others. Also minifigures in UCS sets didn’t become the norm until after this set. 2. Not only do you not have the sales data to back up this point, looking at brickset will tell you that this set had an availability window that was larger than a few other UCS sets... most notably the B-Wing which is notorious for having been a poor seller. 3. Unfortunately there is nothing in this point for me to argue against. 4. They didn’t ignore the fan votes, they made the set didn’t they? They were never going to make everyone who voted happy so they most likely picked the safe options. We have no way of knowing what was actually written in those forms, but I’m willing to bet it all boiled down to some combination of the words “Jedi” and “clone” so it’s not off the mark. 5. Technically correct but still oh so very wrong. For starters those sets aren’t $200 everywhere... then of course there’s 75059, 75098, the death stars, the sculptures, the super star destroyer... 6. The ship is too big for a pilot so nothing is necessary (though I do agree that not putting a new pilot in the set is a massive missed opportunity). 7. From what I gather it was a generalisation about people who aren’t die hard lunatic fanatics about the movies. The idea that I could get two similar looking characters mixed up isn’t insulting in the least. 8. LEGO never threatened anybody. If Hans Schlomer sent me a private message saying I needed to buy his gunship or otherwise he’d have the city designers use my likeness for a criminal minifigure that would be a threat. Hans, if you’re reading this, I can provide my headshots for the city designers. All you need to do is ask. 9. Not exactly a virtue signal when the company has made their position on that matter very clear in the past. Also the cantina is $50 cheaper than the gunship. 10. See my previous post. But while I’m on this point I really wanna know if this is MandR’s alt account because of how often you defend him on here (but then again I’m always on the other side of that fence and that doesn’t make me Jangbricks). 11. LEGOCon wasn’t the con everybody wanted. Get over it. But if it’s true that LAN members have had the set for 2 months then I really gotta get back into it. 12. This one I’m annoyed at too, because now I want both boxes and I know I can’t afford it.
  2. Yikes is this set really being received that badly? We’ve been joking about people saying “wHeReS CoDy aNd HiS ArMY??1???1?11” for so long so I knew to expect some complaining but quitting the hobby over it is a complete overreaction. I know that nothing is guaranteed but from the way the designers were speaking in the reveal video this set is almost certainly going to get the second run with updating packaging, after that there’s no telling. This certainly isn’t a Finch Dallow situation but I can see the imperial box version fetching a premium. I’m not entirely sure what point you’re trying to make about him making a discussion video but the gist is you’re mad MandR didn’t do the reveal? To reply to the other two points you make here: Most people were aware of the vote without him. It’s not like it was on LEGO’s website or anything easily found. Then he made a video, one of hundreds on his channel And as for getting him to reveal the set... why on Earth would they ever let him do that? Here’s a fun hypothetical: You’re the person who has to decide who’s going to reveal the new LEGO Star Wars set (hooray for you!) and you’re given a choice between two people. Both of your options are young men who are dedicated to making LEGO Star Wars videos in their impressive collection rooms. Person one spends their time building massive battle dioramas with their LEGO. Person two is a PR nightmare who you kicked out of your affiliate program less than 6 months ago. Who do you chose?
  3. Page after page arguing about the Gunship’s minifigures... looks like everyone’s glossing over arguably the most important nugget of info we got about the set with the reveal. Instead of collectively wishing for Commander Cody again we should discuss the implications of the imperial logo on the box. We know it’s getting updated before the end of the year. IDK about you guys but knowing the box will have an indication that it’s from the first production run is enough for me to consider making this a day 1 purchase instead of waiting for a sale.
  4. I'm not going to expect for another two or three months. That Poe figure, though... The TFA version of him seems to be everywhere. Where else did he turn up? 4+ X-Wing at the start of the year, then one of the European magazines iirc? Anyway, I wonder if this is any indication that LEGO has an abundance of parts for sequel figures lying around in their factories. If we’re still getting Rey in 2030 advent calendars we’ll know
  5. oh... I understand what you're saying now. But X-Wing, A-Wing are greater than minifigure scale, that's why I was confused but I understand now. $570 for the gunship is insane! I was expecting $500. Oh well, it does look amazing and there are almost no stickers from what I can tell, I dislike the red stickers on the white pieces along the top. 68cm x 74cm is absolutely huge... can't wait to see it in person.
  6. Lol wut. Almost every single UCS is far bigger than minifigure scale and a lot of sets weigh in with prices higher than $200USD
  7. Once again this thread has devolved into mindless speculation but glad that the reveal for this one is on the horizon. I don’t really care about what’s orange since I’m in this one for the build... ready to laugh if and when nothing is orange. Orange display plaque would be incredibly disappointing, because like The Last Jedi it would throw every bit of consistency out of the window. If the ship is orange instead of red that’s the biggest mistake ever and I won’t be buying.
  8. The targets for the E-Web are pretty cool. Solid advent calendar builds but the figures aren’t my cup of tea this time around, would’ve liked some ugly sweaters again or maybe a return to Santa figures, more than just a scarf printed on would’ve been nice.
  9. We Aussies like to complain but the reality is we actually don’t have it that bad. For me at least my complaints are usually just salt bubbling over after seeing ignorant Americans say things like “$40 for an AT-ST? Awesome!” everywhere online and knowing that I’ll never find that same AT-ST for less than $80. We don’t have a factory, (AFAIK the only LEGO factories are in Denmark, Mexico and China) we have a shipping warehouse that only opened in 2018. Upside down manuals are least of our worries when venomous red-backed blue-bottle snakesharks are hiding in the pages waiting to kill us with barbecued “shrimp” Edit: maybe I should’ve read that article better before posting since the point of it seems to be that the data is wrong... and from anecdotal travel experience yeah it is wrong ahahaha. This conversation has been had countless times though... not specifically regarding Australia either. LEGO prices in mysterious ways, most countries around the world probably pay the same for any given set but that’s not to say there aren’t exceptions because there absolutely are. Australia doesn’t have it that bad on the RRP side for most sets once tax and shipping is factored in but we don’t get discounts beyond 20% and stock is sparse so it feels like we do have it bad.

    Leaked 2022 Set List

Too many cheap sets to be real.
  11. Remember that our prices have sales tax included, tax on the Arquitens is about $24.50. The rest of the increased cost is probably to cover transport to such an isolated location compared to the rest of the market. I agree though, if the price is consistent across Europe and that is usually consistent with North America then surely it can be cheaper here. What really sucks for us is that we don't see the stupid low discounts lots of US and European stores give.
  12. I hope the set sticks around long enough for you to get the discount. I’m just having flashbacks to the AAT last year. That sold out day 1 solely because of a new Ahsoka and she’s nowhere near as popular as Boba Fett.

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

Finished the AT-AT, love it. Thinking about trying to combine it with 10178 to make a more accurate looking walking walker, just to see what happens. Still had the build bug though so picked up the 2021 X-Wing 25% off RRP. I’ve become the very collector I swore I never would, buying a ship I already have just for a single figure (Dodonna ofc but also great to get another Leia). I have the 2018 X-Wing (built as Bigg’s version to justify another OT X-Wing to myself) as well as the 3 sequel versions, the 2021 set is easily my least favourite of the lot, it’s small and the wing mechanism feels a lot looser than the others. I appreciate the lack of rubber bands, especially because I can’t help myself from playing with the wings and I’ve had to replace the bands on the other ships because I wore them out, but I would’ve much preferred a scaled down version of the scissor mechanism from the UCS version. Or even just ratchet joints would’ve been fine by me. Landing gear is disappointing too. I also feel like this build could’ve been made even smaller to knock it down from an $80rrp to something like $60. Complaints aside I still think it’s a good set and it’s an excellent pickup for anyone who doesn’t have an X-Wing yet. But if there’s anyone who has older sets, is on the fence about it and thinking of grabbing it just for Dodonna I would recommend against it tbh since he is relatively cheap on the aftermarket. If you’re chasing the Luke variant and Leia as well then it’s worth it to get the full set imo.
  14. Only plausible? It’s absolutely possible. Agreed that expectations should be kept low, nobody should be surprised when it turns out that the whole model is static and all 4 legs go straight up with no moment whatsoever. I think knee joints might be asking for too much on a model this size but surely they can put in the same sort of movement that cavegod was able to achieve. If the legs must be rigid then I hope they’ve gone with a more dynamic pose, building legs in four different positions would be so much more fun than building two identical sets of straight legs. I want this set to be like cavegod’s MOC so much I should just build that instead. EDIT: looking at more photos of that MOC and it appears I was mistaken and there is no movement in the legs, they’re just attached on a dynamic angle to give the illusion of movement. I’m now almost 100% certain the set will have static legs.
  15. Only if there’s not 1 but 2 identical snowspeeders flying above it. Nothing new, same old barely updated design from 1999 of course. If the force could be distributed throughout the system then it wouldn’t be an issue, but that’s another challenge entirely. 10178 worked because it was fairly lightweight and had a low centre of gravity, a UCS AT-AT couldn’t avoid those problems.
  16. LEGO motors are surprisingly strong once you gear them up. No need to motorise head and cannons, just the legs. It won’t be long before someone makes a motorised MOC using the set as a base. Now that I think about it, if LEGO did a motorised set these days it would probably use a Bluetooth app to control it and I wouldn’t want that at all. One of the reasons I love 10178 so much is that it still works after all these years.
  17. If it’s motorised then it wouldn’t really be a contest, giant robot camels are awesome. I have 10178 and to this day it’s still one of my favourite sets even if it isn’t the most accurate in shape. I agree though, I doubt they’ll motorise it. I’m expecting something akin to Cavegod’s MOC since that has a similar piece count, is minifigure scale and can support itself without a stand. If they were to motorise it then I expect it would be smaller than that, but still bigger than the system sets.
  18. Just finished watching Solid Brix's reviews of the new sets and reading the ones published on brickset. Yeah, this wave is shaping up to be awesome. I've done a 180 on the Marauder, short of having the set in hand I'm ready to call it as best set of the wave. Amazing functionality packed in everywhere - love the boxes from the cantina, plenty of space inside, accurate to the source material and a great selection of figures even if I hate the new stormy helmets with a passion. Really keen to get that one and the mando fighter in hand. Gideon's cruiser looks expensive but nowhere near as bad as the Slave I or the duel. Decided I'm gonna put money down on that Boba being an exclusive variant so I'll be getting the Slave I day one, not taking a chance on that set disappearing from Aussie shelves. I like Boba Fett so screw it another Slave I for the collection, that'll be number 5 for me what about you guys? I swear LEGO is more addictive than any drug. The forge is coming out August 1 as well, right? Assuming $45 aud for that.... yeah, August is gonna be expensive. As for the upcoming UCS... my guess is Gunship on August 1 with the new wave. Pretty sure a leaker has said it's already started production in the factories but could be wrong about that. We'll probably get a press release in July, but honestly I could see them revealing it on August 1 already for sale with no warning at all . Wouldn't be the first time LEGO has done something like that and it's going to kill me to have to choose between the new wave or the UCS if they do. AT-AT in November, already decided that I'll hold off on that one since the giant flagship sets are the only ones that seem to not go anywhere, and after getting the Falcon and ISD day 1 my wallet is begging me to wait for a discount on the next one. Should be a fun build, the interior frame is what I'm keen to see the most. I doubt the legs will be fully articulated but hopefully they have some motion, if they're static then I'll be reconsidering buying the set. In a perfect world it would be motorized but I'm not holding my breath. Keen to see how they approach the head, I've tried designing my own before and it is not easy to replicate well.
  19. @Graupensuppe I hope you don’t mind but I presented your list to a Disney executive for feedback. I am happy to report that they have decided to use your ideas! This is, of course, on the provision that you to update the name of the Gungan Sub to be more inclusive. They look forward to hearing back from you.
  20. @V-2929 “Slave” may be a loaded term to some, but most people around the world are mature enough to separate reality from fiction and realise that it’s just a name. If you’re looking at a toy on a shelf and thinking something along the lines of “this toy reminds me of my oppressed ancestors” then I don’t know what to say to you other than that isn’t how normal people think. These two points in particular show a lot of ignorance to the situation. In response to your first point, slavery isn’t an issue that only affected POC, there were/are plenty of white slaves all around the world. And to your second point, if we can’t use the word “slave” then how else are you going to refer to someone who is or was enslaved? You can’t ignore history and you can’t ignore words because you don’t like them. I don’t like the word “megablock” but people use it and I have to live with it. And while we’re at it, the topic of slavery isn’t uniquely American or race driven for that matter considering that there are over 40 million people trapped in slavery today - most of whom are women and children. So to bring this back “on topic”, if this thread can ever be on topic, there is good reason to be opposed to the name change. The name “Slave I” is as much a part of Star Wars as “Millennium Falcon” or “Razor Crest” and has been for the last 40 years. I would be just as mad if they said “the term X-Wing reminds people of their abusive ex partners and will henceforth be known as simply Rebel Starfighter”, because it’s just a name of a fictional spacecraft and is no reflection of the world we live in, its people and their history. To me this is just another entry to the long list of things Disney has done to disrespect the original source material and I for one am sick of it.
  21. This. In fact, it actively works against the cause. Ignoring topics like this is the same as acting like they never happened, I learned that from the warnings Disney slapped on its older movies and shows that were deemed unacceptable.
  22. I want to get Gamers Market if only for the fact that it looks like amazing value next to a similarly priced Star Wars set like anakin’s starfighter or the 501st battle pack (not that I could buy either of those sets if I wanted to since they’re apparently exclusive to any country that isn’t the one I live in). I’ve always wondered this about the figures too, but I think we finally got the answer. If the recent batch of designer interviews is anything to go by then my interpretation of the answer given is that the number of figures they’re contractually allowed to include in any given set is directly affected by the number of pieces in the set. This of course doesn’t explain why battle packs with less than 100 pieces will have four figures and starfighters with 300 pieces will only get one fig and a droid, but the designer alluded to the paperwork being pretty full on so there’s a ton of clauses we don’t know anything about. Short of reading the agreements between LEGO and Lucasfilm we’ll never know for sure but we can always speculate.
  23. Lol of course it’s just the mando sets out of lego con. Fennec, the dark trooper and Gideon look absolutely amazing, can’t wait to pick up the cruiser. (Edit: $270!!! WTF!! They raised the price point on us aussies AGAIN!) The imperial transport is just looking worse and worse as time goes on. That thing is tiny and will no doubt have a ridiculous price tag to go along with it, anything less than $70 here in Aus will be a miracle. (Edit: it will be $60. Still disgusting). Only interested in that one for Greef since they insist on sticking with that disgusting oversized stormtrooper helmet, but I love that they’ve included new heads for the troopers since those are prints and colors we as fans have been asking for for years. Slave I name change though... big yikes. Brickset says that came from above at Disney, which begs the question of just what those people are actually trying to accomplish. Are they trying to send some sort of a political message? That sort of thing only works when you present a unified front and they clearly can’t keep their story straight because they’re releasing Cara Dune products (light cruiser) alongside it. Are there really that many people offended by the word “slave” in this context? Seems to me like the only people who would care about the name of a 40 year old spaceship are the same people who’ve already boycotted the product because of Gina Carano. Makes no sense at all.
  24. Slave I looking harder and harder to pass up. I bet that technic build sticking out the back is a handle, keen to see the review in full. Surprised to see the Gamorean in carbonite, good to get another of those. No space for a Han in Carbonite block puts a pin in my “set was designed to be from ESB” theory. Slightly disappointed by the cruiser’s interior ngl. The front is what I expected but I was thinking the sides of the back would open up like the malevolence did. Idk, I was pretty happy with the First Order Star Destroyer interior. And the other Star destroyers for that matter. It’s just the weirdly shaped ships like the Tantive IV that get the raw end of the deal, when the interior actually takes up the whole of the ship it’s fine.

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

Got the new shuttle and the AT-AT. Haven’t built the Walker, but I have already modded the shuttle to fit more figures in the back.
