  1. @Lazer: Welcome to BoBs. I like the inner conflict in your backstory. Gives you more to play on
  2. Is it not three independant seats? So three different sig figs can run for either seat? So you could run for all three of them if you want (if I am not mistaken). I don't want to lead your choice in trade company or staying independent. Take your time, look around, and listen to your guts (which should be screaming MCTC... before you decide. No, seriously, you will be welcome and your choice will be respected either way, even if you choose wrong.
  3. For keeping your integrity, I would hope so.
  4. I think the Sea Rats could need a little PR boost either way. I don't know how much they cooperate/rival with each other. It would be nice to see them get a little love in some of the next challenges.
  5. WelcomeKeenan Reid (@TheCubbScout) to Eslandola. I look forward to your story and background. You will get lots of tips and learn much in your adventures on the Brick Seas :) If there is anything you wonder about, anything at all, you can ask in this thread (it needs a little activity), or the main BoBs introduction thread. For questions of a sensitive nature, you will soon get an invite to the Eslandola PM thread. Your first ship is free yes, but don't forget you also get a free small land property (approx 16x16 size), to kickstart your cash flow. One way to present your character further is to try out the Adventure MRCA (AMRCA). You can work out the details as you go.

    Jameis Farstrider's Guide to Halos

Garvey Flag: Primary Colour: Dark Blue Secondary Colours: Gold/Yellow or Dark Red Demonym: Garvian Nickname: ‘The Fence of Madrice’ Primary Real World Influences: Coastal trade and fishing cities in the North Sea. Larger cities tend to be more like historical examples of Flensburg, Oslo or Dunkirk while smaller ones tend to be more like Trondheim or Tórshavn. Colonial settlements have a Danish Antilles feel. Landscape is generally that of coastal Norway or the Orkney Islands. Ruler: King Harald of clan Isengrim King Harald, the "Soldier King" (by @Khorne) Capital: Kieg People and History The south eastern coast of the ‘Golden Triangle’ of the Madrice peninsula is known for its rugged, wind swept terrain dotted with small deep water harbours. Battered by icy winds propelled forward by the Eye of Mimir, a maelstrom and freak weather phenomenon off the Garvian coast, the rough country is plagued by cold, snowy winters and only moderate summers - unlike its neighbours, who enjoy more a more temperate climate. This terrain shaped a tough, seafaring people who have long been known as avid seafarers whose living is made on the Brick Seas. As such the culture and traditions of the region developed significantly differently from the main areas of the ‘Golden Triangle’. The children of Gar the Conqueror are capricious and stubborn individualists, proud of their culture and history. Towns and cities developed largely around the natural harbours on the coast. These population centres, being somewhat isolated from each other, often ddeveloped quite different cultures and traditions, and fostered a large degree of independence. Although part of Mardier, the isolation of these cities, together with the differences in traditions and culture, these differences promoted a large degree of independence and the people of these cities collectively became known as the Garvians. Just before the Mardierian war against Corrington in the ‘War that Time Forgot’, these Garvian cities formed a trade league led by the largest of the cities, Kieg. When Mardier fractured in 363AE, The Garvian League declared their independence from Mardier and thus the nation of Garvey was born. Ever since, Garvey has a reputation for successfully standing up to her larger neighbours. Garvey has won three major wars against Mardier, including the war for their own independence, and one major war against Eslandola in 470AE. With the Mardierian discovery of New Terra, naturally the Garvians soon became involved. Although largely locked out of the region by the Mardierian Navy, Garvian smugglers soon developed a roaring trade facilitating the distribution of goods smuggled out of Mardierian colonies. From this their nickname ‘The Fence of Madrice’ was born. Despite their reputation as being merely traders and smugglers, it has to be noted that they have already claimed and settled three islands in the new world, making Garvey one of the leading nations in lasting colonial expansion. Their settlements of Prinport, Leopaldis and Freeport have all become vivid and influential trading hubs in the eastern seas. When in 616 AE the conflicts between the at the time two leading colonial nations, Mardier and Eslandola, started to escalate and eventually turned into open war in 617 AE, Garvey sided with the Eslandolans. In large parts due to Garvey's unrelenting navy, they won and ended Mardier's dominance in the new world. In 621 AE King Leopaldis passed away, partly of old age and after being stricken by a severe case of influenza. Left with no heir, the throne of the popular king went to his nephew Harald - a young prince who had proven himself many times in battle. Nicknamed 'the Soldier King', Harald had fought in the Mardierian Conflict and had an avid interest in all thing military-related. As such, he set out to modernize the small Garvian Royal Army and take a more prominent position in Terran politics by strengthening the ties with Garvey's neighbours. Garvian Cities and Towns of note: Kieg Garvian Settlements in New Terra: Prinport, Holder’s Rock, Sea of Storms Leopaldis, Longjaw, Sea of Thieves Freeport, Rum Isles, Prio Sea Diplomatic Relations: Diplomatic relations are rated on a scale of 1-5 (1=Very Friendly, 2=Friendly, 3=Indifferent, 4=Unfriendly, 5=Very Unfriendly/Hostile. A rating of 5 doesn't necessarily mean the nations are at war and conversely a rating of 1 doesn't mean the nations have an alliance.) Corrington: Indifferent Oleon: Indifferent Eslandola: Very friendly Sea Rats: Friendly Mardier: Unfriendly Carno: Very friendly Alliances or pacts: 'The Winter Alliance', or officially the Lütz - Vestergaard Pact: an act of cooperation signed between Carno and Garvey in the winter of 621AE, by their respective foreign dignitaries Nils Lütz and Olav Vestergaard. Defining Characteristics Each NPC nation has values for eight primary characteristics set by leadership for the purposes of understanding the powers of NPC nations. These values are dynamic and may change periodically in response to events in the Brick Seas. Naval power: • • • • • • • • • • Garvians are proud to be known as a seafaring people and their naval prowess reflects this. The Garvian navy mostly operate smaller vessels with an emphasis on speed and agility which, when combined with their superior seamanship, makes them a formidable foe. Military power: • • • • • • • • • • As their military priorities focus more on their navy, Garvey only maintains a small, yet well trained and professional army. Large citizen militias can be called upon in times of national crisis, and Garvians have a reputation as tough fighters, especially stubborn in defence. Scientific advancement: • • • • • • • • • • Little emphasis is placed on scientific advancement. The Garvians tend to be a more practical, utilitarian people. They are, however, really good at being the first to copy and adapt scientific advancements from other nations. Political/diplomatic influence: • • • • • • • • • • Garvians tend to go about their own business with little concern for the affairs of others, however are not afraid to challenge more powerful nations when they threaten Garvian commercial interests. Their strong economy and tradition of trade, further solidified by their colonial possessions, does tend to boost their standing and influence with the major nations. Inner stability: • • • • • • • • • • Each region of Garvey have a Jarl, local men of stature within their society, who represents their city or province in the Parliament. The Parliament is headed by the King, however the King does not hold absolute power, and will usually defer to his parliament. The system serves Garvey well. King Leopaldis IV is a popular monarch who is supported by the parliament and has no known opposition. Treasury/coffers: • • • • • • • • • • Garvey is relatively wealthy from the volume of trade that is conducted in her territories, although low regulatory rules and no trade tariffs limit the amount of wealth collected by the central government. Exploration: • • • • • • • • • • Avid seamen, the Garvians roam far and wide on the Brick Seas. Their understanding of New Terra is on par with the major nations and their ships are actively exploring the region. As such it does not surprise much that they have successfully claimed and colonized three islands in New Terra. Cultural advancement: • • • • • • • • • • As with science, Garvians tend to emphasis the practical and utilitarian. Their national culture is rather limited, as most traditions can be found within individuals and smaller organisations. Known Garvian Personalities and Organisations King Leopaldis IV - (deceased) born in 558 AE in Kieg, Leopaldis was crowned king at the age of 45 after his father Jardis II had died of old age in 603. While the handsome young man had always been a popular prince, his degree of esteem rose further when he finally put his father's plans into practice and started expanding Garvey's territories in New Terra. Lord Maximilian Damaximus To honour his actions in the Eslando-Mardierian war of 616-7, this Eslandolan noble was made an honorary Prince of Garvey @Maxim I Hendrick Janszoon (deceased) - Captain of the Garvian Privateer Black Oak – Captured by Corrington in 616 @Ayrlego Major Jan Nieuwenaar (deceased) – Commander of a Garvian artillery battery during the siege of a Mardierian Royal Fortress on the Isle de Medio (Victoria). @Ayrlego Examples of Garvian builds Examples of Garvian Troops Line infantry by @Khorne and Half Mortar Battery by @Ayrlego

    [POLL] WTC Elites

I like those torsos better after seeing them a few times, and see that they can work in the era. However I would suggest adding backpacks, pauldron, epaulettes, feathers, or some such thing, to further incorporate them in the BoBs universe.

    The BotBS Plants Index

Name: Peppers (Capsicum) IC background: Peppers grow in the wild on some islands in the Brickseas. Not much is known about it so far. Some believe they are from the fire element rather than a fruit of the earth. It is rumored that there is great adversity in how spicy they are, but no one knows if it is just a matter of how they are prepared or individual perception of heat. OOC background: For more from Wikipedia, see here. Builds in BotBS: Into The Wild unknown island Orbinson Crux and Mercredi unknown island @Drunknok: I prefer that you take responsibility and aim to create a clean index. Here, take all my credits (not DBs or PiPs)

    MRCA II Adventure

Great that you emphasized this. It spawns a question regarding grand storylines. If one do not participate a month AMRCA deadline with a quest, is it possible to start another adventure, possibly having two (or more) storylines going simultaneously? I think small stories also get a little love if it is possible, and one can still participatete in periods with less build time. Using the AMRCA to flesh out the world is awesome. I think it should be the main mechanism, and have a fewer challenges (and/or a bigger time gap). It requires more Game mastering, but the BoBs experience will be more intense and personal. Btw, I think the next Main Challenge should involve embarking on an Adventure using the AMRCA. Another aspect could be building something from a sigfigs past (new player friendly and a possibility to flesh out sig figs). I believe that would be suitable to continue the Era II recruitment campaign, and get even more players to discover the awesomeness that is the Brethren of the Brick Seas.

    MRCA II Adventure

Looks good so far. I am feeling out the format, and seeing the first responses, I realize that I have given very little information in my adventure. If it helps I am going for some existential dilemmas and delve into occult/psychological/dream sequences (allows me to play around in realms that may or may not exist in BoBs).

    BoBS CMF - Series 7

Yes! The BoBs CMF ship has not sailed :) I will definitely steer clear of the lady pirate. Intimidating. Great that you included a shipwright, and the Ténotclaxans headwear always brings a smile to my face. The Alexport negociant, Eslandola mercenary and scholar are my other favorites.
  15. My take on Elostirions BoBs CMF series idea. Series 1, by @Elostirion Series 2, by @Ayrlego Series 3, by @Capt Wolf Series 4: Corrington Explorer Getting into the jungle is no problem for any Corrington explorers. The ones that find their way out again, often have wild tales from nature, that earn them respect from other nerds. Young Corlander Butterfly Collector "Curiosity found out what killed the cat" is a common catchphrase in the Corrington scholar system. Here is a young corlander trying to find butterflies that mimic flower patterns. Corrington Chocolatiér Nothing is as sweet as landing a job in Corringtons booming chocolate business. Only the most stubborn scientific persistence could have led to the discovery of the right processing technique for turning the bitter cocoa beans into sweet chocolate afternoon delight. Myzec Cathunter The Myzec are masters of hunting cats of Cascadia. Mostly in self defence, but their furs fetch a good price from the strange new people from the west. Oleon Naval Officer The officers of the Oleon Navy are no less flashy then their ships. Oleon Noblesse Statue The noblesse of Oleon are known for their family crests, and likes to display their heritage. Oleon Swabber Oleon likes to keep their ships shiny, and their dirt under the carpet, so a lot of their navy have started swabbing decks. Mardier Aristocrat Some in Mardier are getting rich despite the nations misfortunes. Eslandolan Musician A new kind of music are washing through the brick seas. The latest sound is a high pitch whining instrument that takes years of patience to play in tune. The Eslandolans knows how to appreciate improvisation. Some call it art. Eslandolan Boomstickman The blunderbuss is a fierce weapon, and the armor is mostly used for protection from it, rather than the enemy. The range or accuracy is so-so, but the thunderous sound and choking sulphurous smoke clouds makes it worth it. Old Deluded Man with a stick and bone This became my favorite detail from Eslandolas Colonial Council Hall, perhaps because it came about from improvisation instead of planning. I gave him an encore in this CMF series, simply because I like him. Garvey Trader The people of Garvey are bound to the sea, and trade runs in their veins. Many have tried to earn a profit on their expense, so many from Garvey are suspicious by nature. Sea Rat Occultist Contrary to popular beliefs, you don't worship dark arts, you practice it. The most daring occultist in the Brick Seas have called themselves free men. Perhaps they are on to something... Sea Rat Mercenary This sea rat will be at the mercy of no man. When you have to learn to fend for yourself, you might as well earn some doubloons doing it. Sea Rat Farmer A common occupation in the colonies, also amongst the Sea Rats, is farming. This is a hemp farmer, selling his crops to ropemakers, tailors, sailcloth makers and such. Rum Runner Rum runners are common in the Brick Seas, and (even though this one is currently employed by Eslandola - Captain on the Silver Scythe) could belong to any nation.
  16. Thank you. I see that I could have changed the wide and narrow slopes front to back. It is an easy technique, that are quick to build. I will probably use it more in future builds (but in a color I have enough tiles for. Yeah, I try always not to slack, but I also postpone until I don't really have enough time. Glad you like them It would fit better in Weelond, but I thought Puerto Desafio was going to level up, so it ended up there. I have a lot of brick panes, and try to use them in new ways from time to time. I hope new players that have a few pirate sets see that they are perfectly useable for quick and efficient builds. Picture added, also from the side I did not have enough black slopes for. Not hassle at all. I was pressed for time (strange that I always put myself in that situation ) to reach the monthly deadline. Of course you did. The idea behind it is that it is an old flour warehouse that have been repurposed as a residence.
  17. The best thing about being a merchant was returning home to your most valuable assets with reassurance that the trade have gone well, and the family will survive another stormy period (I don't know if it is monsoons, or fall/winters in this region, but whatever the equivalent of that is). Three of the many refurbished residences in Puerto Desafio. I tried to make 3 different styles of buildings (Dutch/spanish, German/Suisse, French/Italian -ish), 3 different roof techniques and some training on groundwork/paths. I am trying to improve my quick build skills for buildings, and my overall groundwork, so C&C welcome :) I'll see if I manage to get some better pictures when it is daylight, and when this flu stops bothering me. I will license as 3 separate small residences (built on one 16x32 and one 16x16 base). Edit. More pictures:
  18. The way you incorporated the rock wall prefab into the rock: And the top of the tower. Muy bien. Thank you for the preview. Looking forward to the development on this.
  19. I have built an Oleon Embassy in Puerto Desafio, with visitors from the RNTC. Is this something that is interesting to license for the RNTC? Oh, and I have not understood when I, as a shareholder, can expect payouts?

[AMRCA - Sir Stig] Old Aquaintances

Douze points! That's the plan. I want to take the opportunity to sculpt the Order based on my ideas, but I'll let the Adventure mechanism decide where the story goes.

[AMRCA - Sir Stig] Old Aquaintances

I guess I don't really know how the adventure MRCA works, so I will wait for the result and take it from there. I guess I am taking some kind of Odyssey variety.

The corlander highland brigadier, Myzec apprentice Priestess and the Eslandolan assassin are very nice. The Eslandolan merchant baron is pure gold. Mmmmm goooold....
