Book 2 Challenge V Cat A: The Midgardian Messenger
Slegengr replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent scene, Captain Braunsfeld! The starry backdrop really adds to the scene! Your photography and lighting is perfect! Nice snowy landscape and figures. Leaving us hanging without knowing what happens makes me expectant for more of the story...- 25 replies

I find it helps if I rock the torso side to side as I try to remove the head. Otherwise, you could try adding a thin piece of plastic or tape over the neck of the torso to increase the diameter before placing it into the head. This will increase the tension on the neck and hopefully will exceed the tension on the cowl.

Good work, dathil! I agree that the photography and posing are very nice! (The new camera is a great improvement) The trans-clear water looks nice for a shallow spot to cross! I am looking forward to more of the story.

The retaking of Eolas: A hollow victory
Slegengr replied to The Maestro's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is a well-built scene, Maestro! The terrain and rocks look quite nice for this scene! The fig posing and chaotic weapons/arrows make the image quite believable. The kneeling Maestro really adds to the feeling of the scene. Destruction and loss from war is not always represented for both sides in heroic tales, but this is more realistic to have losses on both sides. -
Very nice build, LJ! The Asiatic influence is evident and well done! I like the cheese roofs with those clip borders! The mosaic is nice in front of the door. I also like the armor and swords for some nice interior details. The tree seems very fitting for this scene. The different minifigures are great in this scene as well! Nice work!

Lovely mill, SK! The use of oxen is a nice idea for this build! I also really like the earth orange dirt. I hope those 1x2 plates in earth orange show up on PaB walls at some point to make them affordable for large landscapes! The well-trodden dark tan path works quite well here. That tree trunk is really interesting and realistic with the angles and textures! It was a good idea to include a small wheat patch in the corner. I also like the mushrooms to break up the terrain a little bit. Nice simply effective functionality!

Very nice architecture, Sirius91! The building looks quite striking with the dark red "tile" roof and the sand green clock tower! The details over the windows and the corner "bricks" give a nice appearance to this building. The tan walls and brown windows and doors add beautiful contrast to the facade. Is there a completed interior to this build? It would be really spectacular to see an interior as well!

Yes, I believe it is this unusually shaped bat-arang from Batman. Edit: I guess I am too late, you already found it!

AoM: Store Phase 3: Sigurd's General Goods
Slegengr replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
I do not have much new to say, but this build is completely amazing, SK! That roof is stunning! The stonework and half-timber are great as well. The landscaping and path are neatly done. All of the details in the full interior and the dollhouse hinge feature are really nice! The different backgrounds really add to the view, though I would still like to see a complete background made of LEGO pieces! -
Need suggestions for/ help finding a torso
Slegengr replied to Ludzik's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The ones I can think of are mostly flesh or yellow specific: PotC Angelica (flesh) Kingdoms Lady (yellow) CMF Forest Maiden (yellow) CMF Pretzel Girl (yellow) CMF Actor (no skin) (not female specific but might work) Just a few to get started with... -
I do agree. I plan to sort more specifically when I have a more dedicated LEGO area with shelves and more small drawers. It certainly makes finding parts much simpler. I do not disagree with sorting by part and color, I just disagree with large bins only sorted by color. I had a friend who did it this way originally and had so much trouble finding parts quickly (especially from storing large and small parts together). I recommended sorting by part type primarily and color secondarily as space allowed, and it proved to be more efficient. I certainly recommend keeping large and small parts separated. There is a reason that LEGO sorts the parts somewhat by size in the bags. @Grover I agree with Ecclesiastes that you will get better ideas and feedback if you just start to build with your own method and refine your method over time.

I mostly just start building from the ideas in my head and the base of parts connections in my mind (I visualize the connections in my head first for new techniques usually). LDD is only useful to me if I want to verify that certain connections work before I order parts on BrickLink. My pieces are organized by part type to make finding parts quicker, though I do not sort to specific part or color. I find that creativity flows better when I have to do some sifting instead of immediately finding the specific part. By seeing other parts, sometimes a better technique is found. The sifting takes a long time, though, if all parts are together in one huge bin. Most of my builds are planned to some extent. I either have a reference image (digital, printed, or in my mind), then I might make a reference sketch on paper to begin planning. I rarely make a complete sketch of the intended build, but rather use rough technique sketches and location layout sketches. I keep the planning to a minimum, though, as the building is the most fun. The enjoyment is, after all, the main reason I pursue this hobby! Trial and error may take more time, but I find it more enjoyable. I also sometimes discover new techniques to be used elsewhere as I try to come up with a technique for a certain build. This is the first advice I give to someone asking how I MOC. I sort by part type primarily and color secondarily. Certain pieces that I have in large quantities are separated singly, but most of my parts are combined with other parts of similar type. I have had some people tell me that they only sort by color. I can just imagine the headache of searching for a black 1x1 brick in the large bin of black parts of various shapes and sundry sizes!

Medieval Village 10193 - still worth it?
Slegengr replied to LudeBene's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The lack of numbered bags is one thing that makes the Medieval Market Village an even better classic! I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great LEGO original. The MMV is both an excellent build and an excellent parts pack for freebuilding! -
The larger sigil is even better than the first one you built (though I did like the first one), SK! All of the shaping is neatly done in an interesting manner. I have never built mosaics, but I can imagine that they could be challenging at portions to get that shaping correct, especially with angled lines.

Belated welcome to Eurobricks, Vaionaut! That is a nice collection of MOCs from 2016! What will 2017 bring from you now? Imperium der Steine seems to have many spectacular builders that are able to learn from each other and inspire others.

Welcome to Eurobricks, NorthUmFus! It is always nice if another hobby interest can supply income for the LEGO hobby. From my own past (and to remain only PAST) experience, cats and LEGO pieces do not go well together from the perspective of the condition of the LEGO pieces!

Lots of great MOCs compiled there, BrickCurve! I also agree with LJ's additions. This is one reason this community has been beneficial to my building: lots of great inspiration!

Medieval - Paying Homage to the King
Slegengr replied to PublicPlaytime's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice castle scene with some interesting photo editing, PublicPlaytime! -
That is a very interesting and very Covenant build, ME! This brings back memories with that characteristic appearance and color scheme! I like all the SNOT in the body and mechanical greebling at the joints!
-
This is a nice rover, Z! The overall shaping is nice with that slick hood, great fenders, cool wheels, and militaristic attachments! The box studs would look better with an M-Tron magnet covering them, or you could cover them with a turret stand for a gunner behind the main gun up top. The roll cage is great! I like how this build resembles the style of the Ideas Mecha and would easily fit in the same world!

Your LEGO interests and comment about functional mechanisms seemed to point towards mechanical engineering, but civil engineering is interesting as well!

@erikw If you are building that church, even just the tower, it will be a large project at minifigure-illusion scale. Just remember to pay attention to detail and take your time with the build to get it right. I will be looking forward to your progress!

Welcome to Eurobricks, ColletArrow! As I am a mechanical engineer, I also would like to know what field of engineering you will be studying at university. I am looking forward to your contributions to the Eurobricks LEGO Community!

This is a very nice Mitgardian fort, LJ! It is nice to see that your amazing building techniques are not limited to Kaliphlin! As others have stated, I also like the palisade with the snow on top and the angled posts, the icy water, and the snow and landscaping. The thatched roofs and timber arches on the buildings are very Mitgardian and nicely built! That is a lovely pier design as well! I might be biased being Mitgardian, but I really love the scene you have created!

Book II Chal V: Cat A Alliance Courier

Nice build, Milo! The chariot is great, especially being pulled by dracolisks! Nice landscape for the size restrictions. The wedge plates on the border really add to the appearane!
