Great Mitgardian throne room, SK! The bear paw mosaic looks nice. I think the banners and axes work well over the chair. I also agree that the lack of ridiculous decorations makes it fit Mitgardia well. Keep things plain and practical, I say. The tile SNOT columns are very nice. My favorite detail is the hinge bricks in the top corner of the wall. They add a great greebling effect. I really cannot see anything I would improve on (other than the empty studs on the table that were mentioned by others). This is a detailed yet simple and clean build. Brick on, SK!

Welcome to Eurobricks and Guilds of Historica, Grinsebar! Bricklink is the best source for sand green flags. When you have become a vassal here a Eurobricks after making 10 posts, pm me about this and I might be able to help you out. -
My grandfather teaches me to ride: Today, my grandfather thinks I have completed my riding training. He has shown me all he knows of riding and thinks it will not be long before I will become a Falki Ridder, just like my older brother Hammond. I hope I can be as brave as Hammond. He always was the adventurous hero in the family. As we head back to Falkidalr, I glance back and see the flags of Mitgardia and Erlnad Blar flying atop an outpost in the mountains. Then I look towards home. It has been a tiresome day completing my riding training, and my bed will be most welcome tonight! Stian Vitr AoM-StablesPhase1-2 by Slegengr, on Flickr Without Minifigures: AoM-StablesPhase1-3 by Slegengr, on Flickr -------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for looking. Constructive criticism is most welcome. I wanted this build to be a simpler background, styled after 3-d cartoon maps, while adding a forced perspective. I am not sure it is very forced other than the shrinking trees. Let me know what you think.

I have seen that in other fp builds. I will have to give this a try, as it makes a lot of sense. I think I will try to incorporate a foreground, middle ground merger, and background with hills and mountains fading to sky.

Thanks, Gideon! I agree that a lower angle with the background less in-focus would be better for the forced perspective. The main issue I had with this build was that the lower angle and different focus caused the horses and minifigs to cover too much of the background. I will try to build a slightly larger background on my next attempt at forced perspective so I can lower the angle and focus on the front-most objects while still showing the background. C&C is much appreciated. I need tips and criticism to improve my building style.

Thanks, Gideon! I personally love the dark green and olive green foliage pieces. Each time I look at these images, I notice one more detail that I missed. I had not sorted very many sets yet when I did this build, so I was short on dbg wedge plates, but, had I noticed that corner, I would have found a plate to smooth the edges. I especially appreciate the constructive criticism from you, a MOC expert.

***Please see updated build and photos*** Erland Blar was born and raised in Avalonia. His father, Erling Blar, was a highly regarded noble, lord over lands that bordered Mitgardia. Seeking to aid his son in winning glory, Erling provided the best trainers available to teach Erland the art of the sword from a young age. When Erland’s father died, though, his younger brother Fiske, backed by his friends, took over the household and became lord of the lands. Erland saw little value in disputing his brother’s claim, as he did not desire the life of a nobleman. Instead, he crossed the border into Mitgardia to seek out his fortune with his sword skills. Through his skill and might, Erland soon became a highly esteemed warrior and chief of a new clan. He began building a village in a valley between a mountain off the coast and a forested hill. Erland named the village Falkidalr (or Falcon Valley) and made the falcon the representative symbol to commemorate an incident where a falcon aided Erland in his trials. In commemoration of his namesake, the banner color for his province was blue for House Blar (blue). One incident during his younger roaming days in Mitgardia played a key role in Erland’s established power. As he was travelling to find the perfect location to begin his settlement after acquiring some followers, he encountered a lone man dressed entirely in black. This man would not allow Erland to pass and challenged him to a test of sword skills. The two sparred for quite some time, neither one able to gain the advantage over the other. In the heat of the test, the man in black suddenly stumbled on a stone and dropped his sword as Erland forced him back against a boulder. Instantly, several other men in black appeared and fended off Erland. The first man rose from the ground and introduced himself as Fell of House Blakkr. He had never before been matched with an equal in the art of the sword since his childhood training days. This became the start of a lasting strong alliance, the alliance between houses Blar and Blakkr. I should soon have access to Photoshop, so I will be able to better edit my photos and improve on quality. I also keep doing my photo-shoots at night, so my lighting is not very good. I have made a white box to take photos in to aid in removing background and make lighting better, but I have not yet perfected lighting. I am very open to tips on photography, as I have little experience.

Freebuild - Dark Isle Saga Rise Of The Damned Part 3: Loholt Manor
Slegengr replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent MOC, Derfel! The blue in the walls, along with the white and tan, make them very interesting. I love the black roof in contrast to the other colors used. The nets in the roof are excellent for showing a thatched framework. I wonder what is in the swampy water to make it purple? Brick on, Derfel! -
Freebuild - Dark Isle Saga Path Of Darkness Part 1: Caer Caradoc
Slegengr replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent MOC, Derfel! That woodwork around the tower top is excellent, especially the round portions encircling each section. The roof is very appealing. I like the color choices for this MOC. I am curious what you used to make the winding vines over the droid-arm vines. Keep the MOCs coming, Derfel! -
Freebuild - Dark Isle Saga Path Of Darkness Part 2: Hexvale Cottage
Slegengr replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow! Such a detailed build as usual, Derfel Cadarn! It definitely fits the style of your other builds. I particularly like the tower coming from the roof and the curves and angles incorporated throughout the building. I also find the randomly-tiled roof with the holes in it quite interesting. What did you use for the vines crawling throughout the MOC? They are not a LEGO piece I recognize... Keep the MOCs coming, Derfel! -

Crowded Market Mayhem - HSS/AoM: Store Phase III
Slegengr replied to MKJoshA's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build, MKJoshA! I particularly like market scenes, and this one is no exception to my interest. The market stands are neat and colorful. The details in the shop buildings are very nice. I like the cheese slope roof design utilized here. The shop interiors are nicely decorated. Nice action in the scene as well. Brick on, MKJ! -
This is a nice looking Ent, touthomme! I think the parts usage for the face is very nice. It gives a comical, yet very Entish, appearance and works well for a face. The smoothness of the transitions between angles is well done. The Ent's foliage phalanges are great details as well! Brick on!

I missed the mill raid, but the MMV is definitely one of my favorite official sets yet both for collecting and keeping together and for MOC parts. The Kingdoms joust is also my highly recommended set. It is an excellent build for TLG sets and has many nice pieces for MOCing. It is also still available at original prices, so I recommend grabbing it before it is discontinued. I also recommend Guilds of Historica when you get to MOCing, but, of course, Mitgardia would be the best choice for a guild .

Nice build! I like the rock arch over the path the best. I would recommend a bit more foliage to cover the top brown plates on the branches, though, and fill the trees out a bit more. Brick on, Tomsche!

MEC Category C: Riddles in the Dark
Slegengr replied to dagger_of_time's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice work, dagger_of_time! I also enjoy this portion of the story, and I think you built it well. I like the height of the rock-work and the effect of the water. Those bricks at the top that are not pushed down all the way are bugging me, though... . Brick on! -

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ditto the above. I hope to have some builds posted by this weekend as well. I have been busy with two other larger LEGO projects at the moment (that are nearly done and should be revealed in the next couple of weeks) and have not had the time I hoped for to build for AoM, but I will be completing some builds, as the Phase I builds are smaller and I plan to complete all of the phases in order. -
