    The Saint Isolde

Beautiful, TitusV! The shaping is so perfect with the curving in all three dimensions! I especially like the curve on the sides from bow to stern. The rigging and sails are nice custom touches. Lovely design for the sail emblem! The tile decks are nice along with the hatches and cabin door. The inclusion of guild colors is neatly done here with the side stripe and flags. The crew members look nice as well with one guild color on each sleeve!

    Horseback Archery Tournament

Great tournament, SK! Excellent use of the sand green plates! The terrain and grandstands are just fantastic! Nice archery butts as well with a great idea for the horseback tournament! The banners and hangings on the stands are neatly built and interesting, especially in the contestant's colors.

    How common are missing pieces?

Out of hundreds of sets between me and my siblings, I have only seen one incorrect part. In set 7090 Crossbow Attack from the fantasy era Castle, my brother got two of the dark bley scale-maille torsos with dark blue arms instead of one of each torso intended to be included in the set. This is an issue that weight could not correct, as there were still two torsos. I have found sets to be missing pieces many times, only to find that it was my own error. Either I misplaced the piece, buried it in the carpet (never build on shag carpet!), the piece was hidden inside another piece, or I had put the wrong piece on earlier. It still surprises me when others find missing pieces, especially when it seems to happen multiple times to the same person.

@Trooper919 My Mitgardian promotion is successful if you should join, and that would be just pine! I will be looking forward to your contributions to the Guilds of Historica, no matter what guild you join!

@Merc4Hire A custom part for something like that is understandable. TLG is unlikely to mold a hood to fit over armor, since this is a somewhat rare application. @Trooper919 I'll chill then (which sure is not hard in Mitgardia!). There'snow way of telling what guild you might choose if I do not influence you, though! Norse there a way to inform you about the benefits of the coolest Guild without calling it as such! Joining Mitgardia freeze up a lot of building possibilities. I cold quit this Mitgardian promotion since I told you I'd chill, but... frostly, I need to keep going to stay warm in Mitgardia and secondly, puns are just fun! (as long as our native language is the same, since puns sort of fall flat when translated )

@Merc4Hire Custom pieces have definitely been used before. It seems that custom parts are much more quickly accepted on sigfigs (or minifigures in general) than with the building pieces in MOCs. This is all a matter of personal preference. From my experience, though, my opinion is that part of what makes amazing MOCs amazing is the ways they incorporate purist solutions to overcome the limitations imposed by the constraints of pieces produced by TLG. There is a lot of gray area, though, as many amazing MOCs utilize purist parts with illegal connections, which is not TLG-purist. I do not mean to impose a view that custom parts are wrong, just that the general feeling of a LEGO-specific community seems to be towards purist solutions. @Trooper919 Wood elves with Norse influence would probably fit best in either Avalonia or Mitgardia. I am looking forward to your sigfig and your introduction into the coolest Guild of Mitgardia!

@Trooper919 What are your castle-theme interests? The guild you choose should be based on your own interests. Check out the individual threads for the guilds for basic ideas of the differences between guilds, but keep in mind that your choice of guild is not a complete restriction to only one style of building. In general, the guilds are differentiated as follows: Avalonia - stereotypical castles and knights in shining armor, plains and woodlands, chivalry, etc. Essentially the stereotypical castle from stories. Guild colors: Dark Green and Sand Green Kaliphlin - based loosely around the Middle East with deserts and palm trees, adobe buildings, etc. Guild colors: Dark Blue and Red Mitgardia - based loosely on Norse references, snow and ice, pine trees, mountains and harsher northern environments, etc. Guild colors: Green and Yellow Nocturnus - the "darklands", wastelands, swamps, more non-human creatures than the other guilds (this is certainly a generalization, not a requirement), etc. Guild colors: Red and Gold These are very broad generalizations. Elements from each guild are meshed together between all guilds. Members of the Guilds can also build in other Guild's lands, so there is really not much restriction from the guild you choose. Just pick the guild that most fits you, as you will likely want to build the most within your own guild. Remember to check out the individual Guild threads to get a better understanding of each guild. (Note the links in the above list of Guilds)

    Some mocs

That makes sense. I wondered if you maybe used a perfect balance of weight and buoyancy to suspend the submarine underwater , but seriously wondered if you possibly suspended the submarine using fishing line or something like that. The edited technic stand does the same job effectively. Though I do tend to prefer less photo editing and more actual build/effects combinations as a more LEGO solution, your photo processing produces some very striking images!

    Axle that goes 90 degrees

I agree completely with this. Hopefully @Bbafett has the answer needed now for what transmission type is needed?

    Some mocs

These are really interesting, Legonardo! The photography composition is excellent, especially with the special effects. Nice detailing and color choice for the spaceship! My favorite is definitely the submarine, both for the building techniques and greebling and the photography and effects. How did you suspend the submarine over the floor? Is it photo-edited or actually suspended?

    Inquiry of this Forum

I am not the most experienced GoH member, but I will answer from what I have seen. There is an overarching story to the GoH world that is directed and written through members' individual builds in challenges and minichallenges. Your own story would be gladly accepted here, as long as you do not challenge or conflict with the established story of the world of Historica. As I understand it, GoH is not a restrictive rule, but rather a place to offer inspiration for castle builders to build their own MOCs and stories that have some coherence to a general story line. This is sometimes accomplished through collaborative builds between members.

    Plentiful Harvest

Nice build, LJ! The colorscheme is, indeed, a good one IMO! The masonry bricks, log bricks, tiles, and plates make the wall very realistic and beautiful! Nice depiction of grapevines, though those grapes seem to be quite large... must be the sun's warmth and fertile soil in Kaliphlin! It was a good idea to include the soil in the cutaway view.
  14. Very nice brickyard, KB! The structure is quite interesting with the half-timber portion alongside the stone and brick portion with the brick kiln off to the side. How is the layered appearance achieved in the plaster of the half-timber? Are those stacked tiles, is this just the visibility of distinction lines in LDD, or is it something else? Lovely details all around! The red roof is great again, though it is strange that someone from Oleon would have such a fascination with red. The steps look a little dangerous with no hand rail. So this is how they heated the plastic for injecting bricks in the 1600's... in a kiln... how interesting!

My Pirate Town Display at the Local Botanical Gardens

This is certainly a nice display, Phred! It is interesting to see your BoBS buildings in one display. This reminds me of the scenes in minitown at LEGO Land with all the activity and different buildings. The inclusion of Santa's rowboat and the splashing cannonball are great! The display looks really nice surrounded by the poinsettias and other Christmas foliage!

    Axle that goes 90 degrees

And this is a LEGO original idea, as they used it in Mindstorms NXT 2.0 (I believe in the ball sorter). This is good confirmation to an idea that LEGO has used the same technique, verifying the stability. I lost one of the knob wheels from my Mindstorms NXT 2.0 and replaced them with bevel gears until I could acquire a replacement, but the connection was not as stable as with the knob wheels. LEGO pieces allow more motion play than on metal gear mechanisms, so gears as small as the bevel gears can strip out and skip connection fairly easily.

    Harburg Castle

Fantastic castle, SK! The colored hoardings and window frames really make this keep spectacular! The stonework is nicely done with the different textures and dark bley base with light bley accents. The full interior with hinged-wall access is a great play-set feature to include in such a large MOC! The snow around and on the keep is beautifully built! I will have to keep looking at the pictures to note the small details.
  18. @Blakbird Thanks for the description! I had wondered how the drives could be independent with the ring structure. It makes sense that the "independence" is achieved by reversing to cancel out motion. Congratulations to @sheo for engineering this amazing LEGO mechanism!

    [Conversations III] Nothing new(s)

Nice build, TitusV! The stone hut is nicely done in SK's style! The whole build is very fitting for Nocturnus. The ground texturing is great, especially with the color variation. I actually think the studs add to the ground texturing nicely. Tiles would probably be too slick and shiny for dirt here, though they would still work here or there in small numbers.

[Conversations II] News from the West

Very nice half-timber houses, TitusV! You built the stonework and the timber/plaster very well! Building the houses at different angles really adds to the realism! I like the color choices.
  21. I did notice that there were slight elevation changes that were dwarfed since this build is massive. My critique was more aimed towards breaking up the expanses of studs, like with the inclusion of wedge plates for elevation change. Do note that this is a very small critique for a very amazing build! Small details tend to get lost in massive builds, so I think it is fine to leave the studs here.

    Fort Arlin: Arlinsport, Tiberia

Beautiful fort, Mike S! Masonry bricks do look nice in large quantities, especially angled like that! The effect is bettered by the fact that you used the back side of all the masonry bricks rather than the side with the offset showing. The tan roof is nicely done. It seems to be a common technique, but it seems to be hard to achieve a more realistic shake roof in LEGO form. The battlements really add to the visual of this fort, especially with cannons added in some of the spaces! Nice foliage around the fort (especially with the color shift and elevation shift)! I really like the tiling pattern on the wall top!

    Lego Club Magazine???

Maybe find a cousin/nephew/niece/neighbor/etc. in the age range to sign up. I know a friend who registered for his sister, since he was too old but she was still young enough. It would be nice if LEGO would just make a subscription with a fee so they could still provide a magazine to people over the age limit. A cost might be prohibitive to some people, but is a printed magazine worth more than a digital magazine? LEGO does still provide the magazine for free online, so the inside information is easily obtainable by anyone.

    The Cedar Serpent

Nice ship, Grover! The use of dark orange is great for this ship, and I think the shaping turned out well for LEGO piece limitations! The waves around the ship really add to the appearance. Your cast of characters is quite interesting, and the development of Lady Gwenllian's story is nice. I am looking forward to more as you get your LEGO stock organized!
  25. Beautiful Kali build, Z! Jousting on ostriches is an interesting idea and fits Kaliphlin very well! The angled tent stands are my favorite build detail (in Kaliphlin's colors, especially)! It seems that you could be in any guild just as well as another with your mastery of techniques. Interesting story line with much to look forward to! These prelude builds are great!
