MOC Attack on Puerto Leon - WiP

Haha, no, that happens to everyone. I've built my many ships, and every time I finish one I'm less happy how some of the older ones turned out... As to your build - it looks great! Especially the Ship of the line (there are so few of them - glad you finished this one, and its looking great!), but the other stuff also looks great! The Lighthouse could use some more work though - maybe some technique from this thread? Fantastic roofs on the buildings too, those mixed up, not completely connected tiles look great

MOC: Ding Dong Alley, a western layout

You must have forgotten that BMA 2017 wasn't the first time we've set up this layout; we already had it at BMA 2016 and both times it was great fun! More pictures of the more recent layout have been posted by @Captain Braunsfeld here. As for the build - It has always been great, but I had never noticed the broken window before, that has to be one of the finest details around it Other noteworthy things certainly include the sand ontop of the Saloon, the curtains (closed on one side... wonder why ) and the creative use of the Captain America Shields around the balcony. The sand blue wagon with non-production red wheels was, off course, totally necessary
  3. Well, rats were an addition to a sailors meals at the end of a voyage - make what you think off it
  4. "Cooking with rats - how to get them perfectly crisp" "Lasagne - the perfect use for the horsemeat you just bought"
  5. Looking forward to the final result! If we look at the prefab "guidelines" this would probably be a class 3 (roughly equivalent to a small hull with 2 midsection, light construction), and looking at it right now that should fit quite well. Its much larger then it appears at first though... What is up with the spar under the jib btw? I've never seen that on a real vessel... As well as that, have you considered using a Flextube (outer cable in LDD) or technic axle for the topmast so it doesn't look as "clipped on" as it does right now?

[SR - MRCA Result] Fuerte Unido Grog Shop

Medium Artisan works best I would think

[SR - MRCA Result] Fuerte Unido Grog Shop

That sign is perfect Quickly built walls (you didn't have much time in Fuerte Unido), effective vegetation and a fantastic floor - great! But I'm left with a question - why do they drink out of bottles?
  8. The lowest tiles are offset by half a stud, so I needed some gaps for the areas where the ends of the tiles meet. Well, both move, but the top yard is tied to the mast unlike the bottom one, so there is quite some friction there - it takes some extra force to move it around. But yeah, the rigging is very stable, just how it should be :D
  9. Well, there isn't much to this technique - its just tiles snotted to the side of the hull. If you need more pics tell me ;) Also another note that I wasn't the first one to do this; see Captain Green Hairs example: Thanks! Great! The technic rings are there so I can take off the masts for transport Should take about 2 minutes to take the masts off or install them again Oh, short rigging strength test: (sorry, the video is quite bad, but I think you can see how solid it is ) Edit: Rigging is solid, time to start on the sails: Lots of stuff still missing, might bother with ratlines (I would just do them on the lowest of the stays where they are the most obvious). Next step will be taking the sails back off (they are only taped on right now to see if they would fit), flattening them (they are quite wrinkled right now, I would like to change that again) and paint some lines on them.
  10. The Monezterrell shipyards (one day I'll build them - I promise!) have been long known for quickly producing quality vessels. Given the rising demand, the time has come to extend them - we need more vessels here! (ship level upgrade build for myself) Mr Paraja, we lost the Green Winds last month! Do we have something to replace it quickly? It was a quite relevant component of my fleet and can't not be replaced! Governor, you are lucky! We have just finished a sistership; you can see it in the distance, docked in the bay of Furte Unido, together with the two other vessels that haven't left yet - the Wringe II and the Peregrine we recently acquired. Quick overview over the harbour: Well, what else is there to say - I wanted to get these ready for the MRCA and I think I succeeded
  11. yeah, free vessels are usually treated like paid vessels for upkeep. Only current exceptions would be vessels won in Challenges (CH4B handed out 2xclass 6, 2xclass 5 and 1xclass 4 vessels for example, those are upkeep free, though most aren't active anymore) SR upkeep is based on the non-discounted cost, that is correct indeed.
  12. Slowly progressing on my Brig. I need to pick up a couple more technic axles (the royal sails would be the wrong ship as of now, and I'm not quite sure about the topgallants, those might be a bit too wide as well), some parts to connect some other parts of the rigging and some string - but in general I'm slowly getting there. With a bit of luck I'll have it done towards the weekend
  13. @Bart looks good so far! i've found that masts that are to thin usually look better then to thick masts. You can get slightly different thickness by using the round technic connectors for the supposedly thicker part and axles or axle connectors for the thinner parts. Also don't forget to change the colour of the internal parts that are visible through gaps
  14. @Bart If you want a tool for checking upkeep, maybe use my tool for that. I currently added my active ships into it (argh, so damn much upkeep ), but feel free to clear that and try some other examples, you can't break anything I believe.
  15. Don't forget to sign up your vessels for the MRCA
  16. You mean the tiles on the side? That is the big issue with the small prefabs - there are only a couple colours out there for each part (bow/stern bottom half exists in brown, white, dk grey and black, midsections exist in white and brown, and the top part exists in green, blue, black and dk grey. Which leaves you, if you combine the black top with the white bottom, with something like this: Which isn't bad, but the bigger the vessel gets, the larger the big black blob at the bottom gets. You can, off course, add some other colours in the middle, but that doesn't really do it for me. So that leaves the tile option - and black shining through is sadly really obvious, which makes the whole thing a bit awkward to build around... And given that this vessel will probably be standing in a place where it'll only be observed from further away (I have a local shop that stores some of my vessels for me), the rough edges aren't that bad. Added a rough stern prototype to the vessel: Still not entirely happy with it (I think I need to change the entire stern plate, I don't like the look of the top part above the windows nor the sides currently, I need to find a different solution for that... As for your vessel - the curve certainly looks much better then a boring flat wall from before, but I gotta ask - what is the reason for the slopes next to the gunports? It seems kinda like unnecessary decoration, but we are gonna see. The headrails look fine btw, interesting idea to clip some stuff onto flex tubes, might have to use that (though I would probably just go with a similar route) Small thing about the curve towards the stern (should be easy to fix in LDD): You are currently going 4-5-6-3; this looks weird, rather go with 6-5-4-3 for that (you'll see from ontop why) But lastly, the big issue - the stern. Right now it looks like an airport tower stuck ontop of a vessel (sorry!). Look at some examples of historical 2 deckers - Let's take the Agamemnon - the stern is indeed angled outwards from the hull, but only going towards the back - which makes a lot of sense, if you think about it. You don't want heavy stuff dangling on the side of your vessel. Also note that it gets slightly thinner towards the top, and is integrated into the gundeck - it makes the vessel appear a lot sleeker and probably helps with rigidity of the stern. Adding a quarterdeck (partial deck basically starting between main and mizzen or right behind the mizzen) helps integrating the stern into the hull too. If you wanna go extra fancy with the shape of your hull (you are just starting out after all - it could add lots of complication in some places) - add some tumblehome. Simplest solution would probably be simply using 3 tall slopes in place of the bricks between the gunports and angling the gunports, a more involved solution would be using hinges (I can recommend Captain Green Hairs tutorial - I think it has resulted in many many beautiful vessels over the years and is still quite relevant. While I used a different technique for a while I've fallen back to it a couple times because it makes building a vessel very straight forward and I'm right now using a variant of it. Mid-size vessels are also a lot more practical in game here...) Oh, and if you want to earn a couple DBs - I have a long forgotten LDD WIP that I'll probably never finish on my own, so if you want to try to finish it to sell it to me PM me
  17. I started on another small prefab vessel (I really like these and happened upon a bunch of them... With 1 BL order waiting I now have 4 or 5 small brown midsections + 3 bow+stern combos and 7 small white midsection + 3 bow+stern combos, so plenty more small vessels to put together) - this time trying a technique first shown by Captain Green Hair to cover the black part. Example by Captain Green Hair: My implementation: Still undecided if I wanna go with a small full rigged ship or a second brig. I'm currently tempted to go for the full rigged ship, but I can't quite decide...
  18. Part I Part II After acquiring a new boat, Captain Rijsk went out for another adventure. His new Dhow, outfitted for fishing, once again, ran right into the hands of a much larger Garvian Xebec - he isn't the luckiest person in the world, after all. Well, he survived the previous adventures, so maybe he is? The catch of the day was safely put on board in a big tub, but that wasn't the most convenient way to escape - he decided the best way to escape would be his personal chest - enough space for a person who once had 2 legs. More pictures: Garveyan Xebec loaded with guys ready for the fight: _______ Finished this in the last minute really - I'll see if I can add some more story before the deadline is up, but at least the build is already up now. Feel free to request more pics - I might be able to take some more tomorrow morning. Edit: The Garveyan Xebec is a 4A (I'm gonna see about a story later) and the Mardieran Fishing Dhow is a 1F - I'm not even gonna bother with a story to aquire it;) Edit: I guess we messed up a bit with the organisation - he lost his second leg twice, oops.
  19. Oh, to add to Bregir - a bit more space between gunports doesn‘t hurt on such a large vessel. 4 studs are quite balanced.
  20. Curves! Curves beyond bow (and stern). Look at ship plans for large vessels and with that ;)
  21. Haha, at the point where you are spending 400+ DB a MRCA in upkeep you don't worry about 120 DB for a class 2 license
  22. You can upgrade up to 110 total shiplevels, each time adding 25 levels (the cost is higher each time though, so make sure you have enough PIPS and DBs, I'm sure we have a list somewhere, else I can go find it). Factions go up to 125 (currently) and TCs to 100. Nope, only a single free class 2 vessel. Not upkeep free either though...
  23. Harrison Torn's license has been disabled, but someone will have to MOC the vessel for Oleon if it is intended to be used. Stats will then be applied.

    Cardinal's Shadow

Another one of my long forgotten vessels finally presentable. (started ~May 2017, forgotten since 1st September 2017) Having lost the Cardinal in the Battle of the Five fleets, replacement was needed. With the funds available, it was quickly decided that another frigate, maybe a bit faster and lighter, would be needed to replace it. Farrucio Paraja quickly came up with a design; due to various delays a sistership of the Cardinal itself had been finished much faster then the new vessel. Now, half a year later, the delays have been resolved and the vessel been finished. Now that its done, it is time to head out to hunt pirates... To load more cargo, the ships boats had to be dropped off. Lots of various pieces of cargo were being loaded aboard the vessel. Quick overview over the whole vessel: Fishing issues, already noted a couple days ago, popped up once again. With most cargo loaded, it was time to load the small boats - 5 of them, if we ever need to get to any island with the whole crew it would certainly be possible. Waving goodbye:
