Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Legostone replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Kwatchi So, where do I start? Lets have a look at a real ships plans from ontop: And from the side: First thing to note - the headrails basically add a trapezoid-shaped small deck to the bow (it is the same for bigger vessels, so if your ship is bigger then the Surprise its still fine), nothing really round. Now, lets continue by looking at a larger ship from the side, HMS Victory: Second thing to note - no matter the size of the ship, the top rail basically ends at the highest point of the forecastle. Okay, basic principle on some plans are dealt with, how to build it now? So, lets have a look at some example builds: Examples in lego: I hope I could help get some inspiration, if you need more I can have another look around if I find anything -
Looking great, and I‘m looking forward to see what the Bounty Hunters end up doing to Sinbad and if can manage to escape! Is the hairpiece from the defendant a real thing? I thought those were only made in white...

With the cheap meat available around Mesabi Landing, it was fairly obvious that something had to be done with that. Realising that setting up just a grill wouldn't be too interesting - it had been done many times before - James Hred decided it would be best to do something nobody had done before in this city - why not cook the meat while it was rotating? This would cause an issue - all the grease would drop into the fire. To prevent that, he decided to set up the rotating part vertically. But wait, there is no vertical fire that would evenly heat the meat - the meat now has to be heated by metal rods that were heated to glowing red in an oven nearby. A pretty involved procedure, just to make some fancy cooked meat that can be cut off the roll... Here you can see a bit more of the procedure - a young boy is turning a winch, which is in turn turing a belt which rotates the meat. Another assistant picks up the glowing red metal rods and replaces the ones that have cooled down. James Hred cuts off the good meat and sells it to locals. Now, James has run into an issue - he isn't very creative at naming things. He needs help naming this new technology and hopes it can be simplified in the future - having 3 people work for this seems quite ineffective. If someone were to develop a better solution he is willing to offer a 150 DB reward if it were set up in an Eslandolan Settlement. Licensed as a small Artisan in Mesabi Landing

Incredible details with the sails and yards, and the rest also looks great! Nicely shaped stern too! @Kwatchi can you post the issues you are having with the headrails in the Shipwrights Guild Hall? I can see if I can find a couple good examples from simple to complicated that work well

Thanks! Thanks! Glad you noticed the roof, it is the reason this build is a thing Thanks! Thanks! It is the old variant of the round quarter piece: Thanks! Yeah, how else would you have it heated evenly? Go and try to feed them anything that doesn't come from a horse... There is a reason I had to buy the meat locally. Reminder - if anyone brings this concept further, making the whole process more efficient, there is a 150DB prize for that if built in an Eslandolan Settlement!

Before anyone misses it - Captain Green Hair has posted another one of his great ships over in the pirate subforum, go here to check it out: Le Fleuron Also, two more pics of my new WIP: Goal is to finish it by April 13 for Wetteren, gonna be a bit of a challenge getting there, but wish me luck -
MOC: Le Fleuron, 1729 third rate French ship of the line.
Legostone replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Pirate MOCs
Great ship Captain! Took you a while to post it though, I remember you had it done for quite a while by now, hadn't you? I do think you are lying a bit about the reddish brown - I think I spot some in the cabins interior and at the top of the ladders in the hole... Your stern has to be one of the best ones shown on this forum, great work all around! Nice to see many, but not too many details around it :D Your rigging looks great, but I feel like it isn't quite as tight as on some of your other ships...- 53 replies

Its based on a 6 midsection prefab, though the lower part has been removed. In-line with the suggested number of midsections we have by now- 10 replies

[SR][FB] The Prio Ship Palmetto
Legostone replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah, this one looks fun Simple lanterns, and the style is clearly something new. Great use of the small prefab hull! Btw, given that it is a recently captured vessel, you now have the honour to be the first to use the update link feature of the Ship license form (Sorry, have to - spent way to long on the behind the scenes stuff for the two latest additions here) -

Legostone replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah, its gonna be a frigate, but that is where I'm gonna stop giving more information I can already tell my wallet is going to hate me, 7 BL orders so far (yay shipping... ), and I fear I'm not done on that side... Goal is finishing it before Brickmania Wetteren, but I see that as highly unlikely, but at least I don't have to worry about sails this time around, those have already been made a long long time again by someone else... -

Legostone replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Elostirion Much better already! Next step is to tackle the bow - right now it seems off, its just 2 bows stacked ontop each other. Look at this example: Notice the nearly vertical sides after a certain point, with the headrails in-between? Can be done using curved slopes, slopes or hinges, but stacking several bows ontop of each other generally looks quite odd. I've started another vessel myself; I'm not gonna show much yet, but I think I got the bow worked out... Inspiration for this part: Some detailing still missing on the bow, but the shape of the headrails seems to work even better than I had initially expected. -

Legostone replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think we started transferring licenses maybe 2 MRCAs ago, given that we haven’t been running the new MRCA for that long. The old captures didn’t have stats after all (beyond the class); so if you captured it and didn’t use it yet you are still free to use them as free licenses. -

@Elostirion I'm glad you are giving it a try! First off - great to see some dark brown, its too rare of a colour for ships around here. For the ship - I think a simple bulky hull isn't your usual style - have you considered Captain Green Hairs Technique, perhaps enhanced with a different widening technique (as there is a lack of dark brown jumpers) also by him (for example shown here, I've shown some details how its done somewhere in this thread, a bare 6 midsection prefab with that widening technique is here)? As for the design itself - perhaps one of these might be interesting? (that whole forum has lots of plans if you are looking for more). It always helps looking at models of the style of vessel you are building; here are a couple examples (one, two, three, four, five, six, lots more in the forum I linked above). For figuring out a colour scheme - either some picture editing program with plans or real bricks -

I know that, I also have a pile of unmocced licenses; I've lost count, but I think I still have 2 class 5 and at least 2 class 4 licenses... Catfish Supreme(4), El Tigre(5), Mac Quinnes(4), Merry Merfish (5)... Currently if you capture a vessel you get to keep the old stats, but there might eventually be a solution to change the stats of captured vessels. I think if you are really unhappy with what you end up with we can find a solution before we have a proper implementation of that done. Edit: I've updated the ship owner for the following vessels: Supreme captured by LeColeon (NPC) (mocced) Black Star captured by ETTC (COR) (not mocced) Executioner captured by Oleon (not mocced) Poisoned Peach captured @Bodi (OL) (not mocced) The Athena captured by Harrison Torn (NPC) (mocced) Blue Bayou captured by Oleon (not mocced) Thunder captured by MKJoshA @MKJoshA(SR) (mocced) FTA The Gargoyle captured by Terraversa (mocced) Palmetto captured by kaiju and Roadmonkeytj @kaiju @Roadmonkeytj (SR) (I've transferred it to Kaiju Roadmonkeytj, if you want that changed PM me) (not mocced) You can check the vessels stats in your faction summaries; if you can't for some reason shoot me a PM and I'll get the stats for you. -

Ship owner is fixed, though whoever deals with the payout needs to make sure to doublecheck again. Ships owned by cities send their income to the cities off course. -
Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List (Vol 3, Issue 2) February-March 618
Legostone replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Haha, none of the vessels lost in combat were in convoys/fleets organised by me, I lost a class 4 and a class 5 in the Battle of the five fleets, 2 class 3s this MRCA sailing with Mesabi and the others were just random losses/pirate captures. And well, I suppose I can survive some losses, given that I made 2900 DBs this MRCA... -

Don't wish for it, just look at me Since the MRCA started (I've been here since the third total) I've lost: 1x class 4 (1x combat) 2x class 2 (1x combat, 1x natural) 3x class 3 (1x combat, 1x sunk in combat, 1x mutiny) 4x class 5 (1x mutiny, 1x combat, 2 sunk I believe) -

Legostone replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow, my luck with vessels still isn't there. 3/9 vessels lost, 1 damaged; at least the others made some decent profits. Too bad about the Wringe II, it has been with me since the fourth MRCA total...
