Well bit late to the party but what a disappointing GWP this ended up being. :D Unfortunately I was delaying some purchases to be able to acquire it but right now I guess I will try to resell it immediately. As someone who owns the original there is nothing here worth keeping.

I have the custom Sauron from Nicebricks and at least for me the long legs do work.
-
I hope for some last alliance minifigs personally. :)
-
Looks great, exactly what I hoped for. Now where to put it? :D
-
Probably not the only one, but I think there have already been quite a few discussions about microscale vs. playscale to say there is also group of people who would mind if that's all we get. :)

Where did I argue the quality of minifigs included? But yeah 4 figs for set of this size is lame no matter how good they are.

Looks pretty good, will buy this one for sure. But 4 minifigs only? That's lame.

Honestly price is really not a problem I have with the set. For somebody (and I understand LEGO can't take that into account) who owns lot of the classic Pirates sets I would rather get something new than such a close modern representation of original set.

nevermind...

Because stickers suck. And once I got used to no stickers (building lot of Cobi military stuff) it's just such a annoying thing when going back to LEGO to deal with those.
-
That's actually one more gripe i have with the set. I don't expect connection that would enable me to lift it in one piece but something more firm than what we got would have been nice.
-
Sure this is very easy to fix however I would have preferred the actual design to take that into account. Overall the whole chair thing was just pain to put together for me personally.
-
I ordered mine online immediately it became available. Received it on Tuesday and today I just finished building it. Guess I was the lucky one. Anyway my original plan where to display it didn't work out so currently it's just sitting next to the TV. Thinking about getting some display case for it in the future.
Regarding the building experience, not a big fan of the chairs. The design is nice but the build not so much + don't like the figures are not attached to them at all. So you just look at them wrong and all the minifigs go flying immidiately.

So i am around bag 20 and so far i am enjoying it very much. Definitely my kind of build, not too many stickers (for the size of the set) and limited use of technic. :D Add LOTR theme on top and it's almost perfect.

No issues here in Slovakia. It's actually the first thing you see when visiting the website with info that you can already buy it as VIP. I bought mine immediately it became available.

Well they made it (and admitted it in the interviews as well that is was intentional) obvious who Sauron is. Doubt this will by any different. They want to play it "safe" and have as many characters from the LOTR/Hobbit trilogy as they can even if they don't make any sense in the same timeline.
-
If Barad-dur is 83cm high i think i won't have space already for set number 2. :D Barely made one for Rivendell, hope the 39cm height is accurate.

Nope because they were part of that stupid mithril story line which didn't make any sense.

Orthanc also had 60% less pieces.

Ok let's look at HP as an example. We have a great Burrow set from not that long ago which apparently didn't prevent LEGO from making a UCS version. So what makes you think that decade old Helm's Deep or Bag End should be an exception? Just to be clear i am not advocating for LEGO to remake those sets as priority (i own both of them) but i am realistic enough to undestand that it may happen regardless of the fact that we already got those locations in the past (and before we get places like Lothlorien i wanted to add...)

16 minutes ago, ddavid said:Yes, there are countless scenes that would be amazing to recreate. A smaller vignette could be the bridge passage in the Mines of Moria with the Balrog fight. But it seems we are getting only large D2C sets
And I think they do look back - the Barad-dûr looks like a perfect companion to the Tower of Orthanc
Sure but do you believe they are going to release Barad-Dur because they made Orthanc before or because it makes sense to make such set whether Orthanc exists or not? Releasing such set because it will look good with another set from a decade ago doesn't seem like a great idea. It's a nice bonus but definitely not a major factor.

Same here. Feel bit bad for LegoMocLoc given now people are probably going to wait what other LOTR sets LEGO is going to produce in the future. But on the other hand i already bought some of his instructions so whether i actually build those or not is irrelevant for him. :D

We already have the whole Fellowship and dedicated CoE set as well. General consensus is that they won't really look back what's been made 10 years ago.
-
Well mostly because if we are limited to one big set per year (Rivendell 2023 and Barad-Dur 2024) i think there are locations that will be made before Lothlorien or Bree like Minas Tirith, Helm's Deep or Bag End. If we actually get a full wave that changes everything of course.

What a great set, can't wait to build and display it!

Did the LEGO site crash this time as well? They really need to get better at this. :D
