Hey there, My question especially for those who've moved to another country for good (EU zone, UK to be exact); Will be moving to UK if everything goes according to plan, want to move my collection as i invested a lot both in money and in effort. Anyone did something like this? Any of your comments, opinions, suggestions are welcome. Do i need to pay any import taxes for private goods? Will be shipping to myself. What method should be used? Which company could be used? Any known international movers? Any occurred problems/solutions? Thank you.

All orders are from European stores except 1, which is from Malaysia. I have ordered pieces mixed for both sets so don't know exactly how much each set costs, but for 2x Taj Mahal and 3x Market Street we've paid 2600 US$. That includes all extras, shipping etc. Took me 5 days to search for cheap and new parts, find stores with optimal shipping costs and complete orders.

Just done building my Taj Mahal. Had it already with box and instructions but sold it 2 years ago for an offer i cant reject. Just Bricklinked this one together with Market Street. I actually BLed 2x Taj Mahal and 3x Market Street in 22 orders, just to share some costs and making some friends whos not familiar with BL really happy. Taj Mahal pieces are ALL new and accurate (except 3 technic bricks which are not seen really), i was not so lucky with Market Street, had to replace some and buy some used. Some pics;

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ancestral replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Wish they had done 48 wide modular but even 4000 piece count is too much for a modular set. It would have been OK for a Sculpture or Landmark. We are talking about an official set with complete interior, that's why i said it has to include 5000+ pieces for the width. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

They would do it in 24 studs and leave modification part to consumer. 48 stud wide modular format has to include 5000+ pieces iin order to match height and depth, which is not feasible for market. Having done a MOC on a 24x36 base myself , it had more than 3500 pieces which does not include interior. -

42042 - Crawler Crane - General Discussion
ancestral replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Although i agree with the lackluster comment about 42009, its a bit harsh to compare these 2 sets. 42042 enjoys the advantages of the new gear box as you've mentioned, and new gear shifter. Most of the skipping gears are caused by literally packed and under scaled gears, because you have too many functions but almost half the space compared to 42042, only way to make it work is use smaller gears. If you take it a step further and convert it to an ultimate model, you cant even see anything in chassis and drivetrain, its just plastic everywhere. Boom malfunctions are caused by a design error, which is using just a single 24 tooth clutch gear, which gets worn out pretty quick. It is normal that 42042 could actually lift something, as it as more torque at boom thanks to the string setup. 42042 has a more balanced center of gravity, as it has a smaller footprint, a shorter boom and is actually standing on solid tracks, not bumping tires or wobbly liftarms. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ancestral replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I dont think they would do that, since it will kill all the collectors value of modular buildings. I would certainly buy 2x of each but at the same time as owner of GG and in process of Bricklinking Market Street would hate that. Also it means that we have to wait one (or 2 in case they do both) more year for the next modular. -
Did Lego Volvo Wheel Loader Get Retired?

Plenty of Volvo's, Cargo Planes, Crawler Cranes and even Mobile Crane MK2s in Turkey. -
How do you display your modular building collection?
ancestral replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
I've given up on IKEA as one of the 190cm shelves just decided to leave the wall and hug the floor. New shelf system, cheaper and much stronger than IKEA. -

42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245
ancestral replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I dont think its done, never seen it. Air suspension will work on front but as rear axle has been designed to look as close as original (leaf suspension) you may have some hard times figuring out how. Hard to have mutliple driveshafts and you cannot have much gear as spring ones. You have to anchor each axel at 2 or 3 points and this takes room. 42009 is great for parts. You can add Volvo for motors, especially servo. And then maybe Arocs. These 3 should cover most MOCs for beginners. Talking construction of course. -

ancestral replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed. But cannot build over days, as i don't have a dedicated room for LEGO, every time i stop building i have to gather up the leftovers/unopened bags. Not the cat you see in the pics but we have another one and he seems to be feeding on ABS, not cat food. You turn your back and oops, he eats a 1x1 round plate. And Arocs has tasty silicone hoses, you know what i mean. -

ancestral replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
After some months/years (depends on how often you build) you get the basics and figure out what part you are building even when you open the bags. My advice, just build. :) Modding by trial and error also helps. It's a bad thing because you build autonomously and often make mistakes. For example the asymmetrical build i mentioned above, i tried building with 4x 3L LGB axels first and figured something is wrong after 8-10 pages, as it was not clearly shown in instructions. Thank you. -

Seems like there are more than 2 revisions made to the instructions. As mentioned here before, 2x red long pins appear out of nowhere. Also if im not mistaken at page 256~ 2 blue pins appear. Instructions also are weak at some points, i.e when you are building the rear axle, theres a part you build asyymetrical with 3x 3L LBG axels and 1x 4L black axel, instructions are not clear on how to position the black one. Hoses got me confused at some point, if you build as the instructions show, you end up with stuck and bend ones so you have to re-route some. Set has some missing parts, 3x Red long pins 1x 7L black liftarm I was pretty shocked as 1x LBG panel was missing too. A first for me. Anyways, was the best building experience on a flagship set so far. Completed building just over 9 hours. With a little help. :P -
Wow. Absolutely fantastic. You may have cost me a few thousand extra pieces and some dollars sir. Really want to build a diorama/scene like this.

Oh my god... Just got Crawler Crane and Arocs, and Arocs must weigh a ton. Too bad its still 2 days to weekend. I want to build both models first and then part out my 42009 Ultimate so i can use motors for RC modification to Arocs. Very nice sets, actually best combo of flagship Technic sets ever. -
Cheese slopes 1x2 Cutout Roof Slopes As they are tiny, you could figure something out with em in minifig scale creations. Also with plates you get curved corners and triangles so it could be given another try. If you want to get a more complex look with standard roof pieces, try using 2-3 different angles, will look good.

Nice build. I'd always use sandblue bricks in modulars, looks really good.

Just replace doors for CC, imho. I'm finished with mine too, replaced white ski slopes with birght orange ones, result; not bad. Replaced front door with blue door, 1/20th price. Just waiting for someone to get rid of his original one. Use 1x3x4 windows x2 instead of white 2x3x4 ones. Absolutely no difference from outside, you can use 2 pieces or 2x3 shutters instead of 3x4 shutter with these ones. Replaced side door with black, absoluly fine. I'd rather switch doors than replacing trademark red roof pieces. Roofs cost 1€/piece max, doors cost around 65-70€s each. Rather wait sometime than throwing 150 euros off on 8-10 pieces. Here's the result; Cafe Corner
