Technic 2018 Set Discussion

The discussion is drifting to speculation, yet again. Best to wait till we get an image to critique. -

The emojis mess up if I default to the iPad options. I have to remember to use the site selection not those on the keypad -

Everyone talks about smaller Claas tyres. How about bigger? -

Asymmetric in a highly visible area like this wouldn’t make sense. The 2 1 2 seems better aesthetically- 351 replies

If it were me, I’d probably wait for the contest to be launched and go from there ? -

I’m not usually a big fan of PF conversions. But, I am really tempted to join the fun with this set. -

Impressive, given no one has been told what the contest is asking us to build -

@Myers Lego Technic I love that the person with perhaps the best kit is apologetic about the crappy photos. Irony? ?- 57 replies

Really nice build. As with your other F1 MOC, you have captured the essence of the era incredibly well.- 10 replies

Boulderer replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The different shades of dark orange work in your favour with this build. I love the photo of the model in the final customer display. It looks perfectly placed and will take a couple of glances by most people to recognise that it is in fact Lego. -

I really like that you have managed to incorporate the steering into the model. Great homage to this era of F1 -

Not to mention all the issues with warranty claims from people using the models in unsuitable outdoor conditions. Much less of a problem when limiting product scope to indoors. -

That's a tight budget. Not sure that it would start to touch "mid range" equipment- 57 replies

All great ideas @Saberwing40k but, I’m not sure many of them would be done justice in the short timescale that is being suggested. -
The Evolution of Styling - Connectors and FlexAxles vs. Panels
Boulderer replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As ever, extremely coherent and well rounded points of view. I can relate to all, to a greater or lesser extent. I think my fear is that, by focussing on aesthetics more and more, TLG start to develop pieces that are less modular and look more like the specific feature they are representing thus detracting from the creativity of the brick build. -

I wonder how many PF MODs there have been to 42037? It feels like it’s one of the more popular for this type PF MOD. -

Boulderer replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How about a contest to replicate your favourite, or an iconic set using a number of pieces equivalent to no more than 20% of the original’s total pieces? So, if the Lego original used 1000 pieces, you can only use 200 pieces to replicate it in mini scale. -

Forgive me if this has been asked already ... did you try using a chain to link the drive between the two elements?
