    MOC : Tiananmen Gate, Beijing

Good luck with a 6 year old thread and poster that has not posted for 4 years.
  4. I have an overall household budget but not specifically for lego. We have money put aside for each week to spend on whatever we like $200 (its called a splurge account and it is not just for lego), i buy out of this mainly sets that will fit my lego city or my kids will enjoy. Normally i am patient and don't buy at first release for the lego exclusive sets. Most sets go for 20% off sales at a minimum but it means i don't normally get the Lego exclusives until 6 months after release when they become available in stores that discount. I also graft away on BrickLink to get parts for instructions i have bought or for sets i have missed or just for building up my city (over a year or two i bricklinked 4 modulars that i missed, i sorta like the chase). If they are more expensive sets like the roller coaster then i ask my wife to get them for me for Christmas or Birthday.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Probably a fire station to ramp up the play aspect and a good reason to include a vehicle.

    Alternative Diner

Sorry not a fan of the change. The large arch no longer "pops" for mine and blends away in the street view. I would prefer another more contrasting colour if not the turquoise. But if it floats your boat that is all that should matter to you. PS i love your fully lit buildings.

    MOC: Modular Bookstore

I love some of the detail. Baby in the cot and the way you got rounded ends on the books in the book case instead of just using flay plates/tiles.

    Size comparisons carousels

I think the one from the winter village is better scaled to modulars and the fairground sets especially roller coaster.
  9. i have a 12' x 15 ' lego city set up with shelves set up underneath for spare bricks/sets etc. The kids also like building cubbies under this. As long as i keep an area so the kids can build farms etc and it is not spread all over the house she is happy. The hardest thing is keeping my three year old from spreading lego all through the house and dismantling sets quicker than i get time to repair them. She does not build but accepts it as i could have worse hobbies or just spend time with mates or down the pub. At least I'm home to look after the kids while i play with my lego. Also, all three kids enjoy building with there dad, often i am relegated to part finder while the kids build.

[PRESS RELEASE] 10260 - Downtown Diner

While i would have bought this for completionism i think after seeing Jangs review i am more of a fan than i was.I love some of the techniques used for the windows to give the offsets for the arches. It will be interesting to see how you go adding another word in a similar style. Personally would only go with one set of steps and increase the business sizes as they are a little under done and there is plenty of ideas to add to these.

    [MOD] Parisian Restaurant full 32-width

Its great the Chez Albert is doing so well and has needed an extension fora while. I really like they way you have stuck to the overall design and it does not look out of place. Four stories makes its a bit more Paris for me. I love a spa bath so i am glad the artist at the end of a hard day can relax and let creative juices flow.

    Gigantic Christmas Village

Great looking layout. It has ,depth and consistency making it a nice little village. I really like it.

What is Town Forum to you?

For me personally , i have three young children and a full time job. Although i would love to build more Mocs, i focus on my layout and the joining of official sets into a town setting, this is what interests me the most, as time is limited. I am also happy to buy instructions of great Mocs and track down the parts on Bricklink. The reason i think offical sets get more comments is that more people who visit this site are into them than Mocs. Some people also don't like to critisize other peoples work when they are actually the one posting. Mainly i think though is that more people relate to the experience of building the official sets as they own them, have built them or can buy them, thus they feel they can contribute more with these subjects. I also get annoyed by people posting just to get support for there lego ideas projects when the person is obviously not here as a part of the community so will never comment. I mainly only visit town and train forums as the train forum has a lot of crossover when it comes to layouts.

    10182 Cafe Corner Photo Review!

I am not sure why you bumped this old thread. But that link does not really add anything new for me, i must be missing some context to the images or something.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think it is a corner building but the corner is on the opposite side to the stairs which are to the rear of one side of the building, i think we are missing one whole side of the facade. 7 studs are missing from the leaked picture on the right side. How Curious. If you look at this from the perspective of brick bank ,we might not have seen one whole ground floor business like the Laundromat is to one side . Maybe thats why it hasn't been removed as its definitely raised the hype level but not thrown the baby out with the bath water.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I still think this is a corner building and we are yet to see one whole side of the facade as only 29 studs or so are showing, probably a doctors .

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think it is real. I also think it is a corner building with stairs on one side and footpath on the other. It will be interesting to see the facade from the other side and if there is another business, It looks like a gym upstairs with a water cooler. I also think if it was fake the car would be better, they are being consistent in the car is pretty average. As for the figures. Times change and it add to the playability of the set and collectorbility of the figures so it would be a welcome upgrade.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I would be down with an apartment Building Modular. But have a few spare parts or have the parts from the bottom floor that could completely make an extra floor when building upwards. This way if you buy extra sets you get two extra complete floors per set making it more desirable to buy multiple copies. ( Just a nice daydream ), Plus alternate builds with the left over facade pieces for furniture , thus making it completely modular.

Fairground Sets - Rumours and Discussion

You would have to think so, lets hope they are white when released but would be happy with a range of colours. I foresee a swathe of fairground layouts if the coaster becomes available.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I agree with a couple of posts above.Move to a larger Modular as per RogerSmith suggestion with a detailed interior, move the price up to allow for this. While Mid year release a 16 wide cheaper version but fits the modular standard as per Sir Stig. I disagree with the moving of footpaths or the open backs idea though. This would allow more flexibility in price and selection and give an entry level to building a modular system. The timing of Mid year also means collectors are not waiting a year and we could have 6-8 buildings available at one time with the 3-4 year life cycle.

    Big box on Lego Facebook?

Unfortunately if it is the millennium falcon which i hope it is ,will open my UCS account. As a massive star wars fan i have resisted buying star wars lego sets and sticking to Town / Train as i can't buy everything, as i am quite obsessive compulsive about completing sets so would more than likely feel the need to acquire all of them. I have seriously considered building one of the Large MOCs plans available in the star wars forum and bricklinking the parts to have one awesome star wars set. This would tip me over the edge. Even if the set was at the $800 to $1000 mark.

    Assembling Bricksburg

Makes complete sense to me and don't see why he needs to give any reasons. I can think of a couple reasons he would not want share his work without jumping to the conclusion he is lying Maybe he loves lego as a brand and does not want to see Lepin knock offs of his work being sold on eBay. Maybe he wants to keep the IP and sell instructions at a later date. I personally have enjoyed reading this thread and appreciate the pictures he has shared.

    REVIEW: 10257 Carousel

Nice review , i got to see this on the weekend and i got to say it was bigger than i thought it would be , a really nice set.
  25. Great Job on the alternative build. Posting to Youtube is no different to Flickr or just posting images here, all you are trying to do is show off your art/hobby in a medium of your choice. Pictorial content is they way old farts like myself have consumed content for years and probably prefer whereas my kids and the younger generation prefer video content i would say. Horses for courses and as long as it is not blatant advertising AKA like people do for ideas content i think it well deserves it place here along with all the pictorial content on this site. Keep building and keep sharing.
