  1. Great build, and really fits the Port Woodhouse style. I really like the gate at a 45 degree angle, and the cobblestone work around the fountain -- not to mention the fountain itself! I use loose 1x1 round trans-light blue plates in many of my water builds. Check out this fountain I did a year ago:

My thought exactly! --- Great photography, and good story beginning!
  3. The sign-up deadline for the next Trade MRCA is October 27, midnight, anywhere in the world. ---------------- To sign-up for the Trade MRCA, read the rules here and then sign-up via this form. For a ship to take part in the MRCA, it must be licensed. You can license your ship under the new ship rules via this form. If there are any issues (typo, wrong number of points or other issues) with this process, PM @Bregir. Note that the MRCA signup form still doesn’t have raids added yet, so if you’re interested in conducting a raid this turn, PM @Capt Wolf. If you’re just going to be trading, you can go ahead and fill out the forms normally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT MAP ZONE INFORMATION: - Note that zone 34 connects to zone 36 - Explorers have confirmed that the open sea south of zone 35 is navigable. As such, zone 62 (unmarked on map) is available for travel in the MRCA. Zone 62 connects to zones 33, 35, 37, and 38. Cartographers are working to get the maps updated as soon as possible. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In addition to the information above, consult the following two maps for trade zone numbers before submitting any forms. First, the continental coast and the seas closest to northern Halos: IMPORTANT: Note that if you click on the above map to go to one you can zoom in on, there is an error on the linked map (zones 10 and 11 are mislabeled). Use the map visible above for proper zone labels. Second, here is the map for the New Haven Sea, which has a growing number of settlements: Note that Corrington's Proxyville (zone 49) has changed its name to Port Mordo, and that Eslandola has established a new settlement -- Punto Sur -- in zone 42 on the southwest coast of Maldria. Cartographers hope to have the map updated next month. Beware that the Lotus Kingdom is still engaged in hostilities with Carno and Corrington. Dangers abound in the waters around El Oleonda. Watch out for Lotus naval patrols! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And here are the trade values as of July 13, 620. (Trade values for NPC and Old World ports are as of February 14, 619, and haven't had their trade values updated yet). When filling out your MRCA form, please make sure you spell the ports exactly as they appear below. 4. That looks like Dino from the Flintstones, but Dino isn't in the Flintstones set. I have no idea where that part is from.
  5. That house would look right at home in New Orleans' French quarter. A perfect fit for an Oleon settlement!

    [ESL] Colonial Trading Post

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I came across a bunch of those old printed wall panels and wanted to find a way to use them. I've tried to encourage others who build in Punto Sur to build with a nod to the classic sets in some way as a unifying theme for the settlement. Mixed results so far.
  7. Thaddeus Calvo, the Eslandian adventurer somewhat well known in certain social circles, had extensively explored the island of Maldria for the previous six months. He encountered several similar but independent native tribes inhabiting different regions of the island, and discovered that they were familiar with trading with outsiders, as they traded with the Tyree'De, a non-Halosian people from an unknown land to the south. These discoveries led Eslandolan officials to believe that another settlement on the island of Maldria was needed. The tribes that would trade at the town of Interlagos on the north coast did not appear to travel extensively to the southern coast. A fertile river valley on the southwest portion of the island was a perfect location for another settlement: accessible overland from Interlagos via a pass in the hills that formed the spine of the island, land suitable for farming, rivers that would provide access to the island's interior, and a natural sheltered harbor for sea-going vessels. So Calvo set out from Interlagos again, this time with a crew of men to build a trading post on one of the southwestern rivers. Calvo and his men found a suitable spot at the mouth of one of the rivers. Sandy beach, but with rocky outcroppings suitable as a foundation for permanent structures. First they built a dock to receive ships large and small. Next they built a small structure that would serve as both a warehouse and office. Finally they built a watch tower to serve not only as a lookout, but as a landmark for traders on both land and sea to see from a distance. It didn't take long before scouts from one of the local native tribes came to check out what the Eslandians were doing. And so the trading post of Punto Sur was established. Maps: --------------------------- The main elements of this build were inspired by the classic Imperial Trading Post set: small rectangular building, tower, dock, and crane. I hope you like my take on that classic. The last two pics were taken at a different time than the first three, and so the light was different and for some reason they have a pink cast I couldn't edit out. All C&C welcome.
  8. and These two points won't steer you wrong. Don't feel any pressure to join a particular faction. Bregir answered this well: "Yes, but you can only be part of one faction." But it is easy to have side characters of the other factions. I play for Eslandola, but I have minor characters that are Corrish and Oleonder. I use them to give my main Eslandolan characters to have storylines that connect to other factions. You would need to modify it enough so that it shows some effort at making it unique. ---------- Whatever faction you choose, welcome to BoBS! I look forward to seeing your characters, stories, and builds!

    Trade MRCA Deadline October 27

Still a ways off. Crunching the numbers on the ship orders is taking some time this turn. We're working on it.

It turned out great! The chairs for the waterwheel work well, and that tree is magnificent. Nice assortment of details around the various windows. And of course your usual lovely landscaping. Another one of your instant classics!
  11. It's that time of year again: time for Oktoberfest! The annual BoBS Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more. But this year there’s a twist: It’s a Classic Pirate celebration as well! Normally the big Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Weelond, but this year things move east to the Eslandolan hamlet of Punto Sur on Maldria in the New Haven Sea. So far there is only a trading post at the settlement, so there’s a lot of room for growth. Rules: Entries for this year’s Oktoberfest should showcase a property built in the Classic Pirate aesthetic, either in traditional 1989 form or updated for 2020 style and techniques. Your entry should show an Oktoberfest activity in Punto Sur, with an emphasis on a growing colonial outpost. Show new residents taking part in the festivities while making a new life in the islands. Entries should represent licensable properties. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Punto Sur settlement thread. Entries must be posted by October 31. Categories: Categories are for six property types: Artisan, Commerce, Factory, Residence, Education, and Culture. Identify what category you're entering when you post your entry. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Punto Sur's architectural style (Classic Pirate, both retro and modern), and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. The only size requirement is a 16x16 minimum. Prizes: The top entry in each category will win a free small property license, to be activated by microbuild, usable only in the New Haven Sea. An overall winner will have his license upgraded to a large property, and the overall runner-up will have his license upgraded to a medium property. Builders will also be reimbursed for licensing costs for any property licensed through the EGS, or Capt Wolf will purchase (at 3x the license cost) any property a builder does not wish to license.

    Fort in Punto Sur

I love your take on the updated Classic Pirates style! I concur that the dark yellow works better than dark red would have. The yellow sand of the island is a great throwback to Classic Pirates, as is the ramp. Fantastic job!
  13. Oktoberfest mini-challenge winners have been announced:
  14. Thank you to all the entrants in this year's Oktoberfest mini-challenge! Punto Sur is now a booming trade town and a veritable melting pot of BoBS. Drunken merchants and sailors from all factions can be found there! Judges put an emphasis on sticking to the Classic Pirates theme and attention to the fit of the scenes in a newly founded settlement. Here are the prize winners: Artisan: Biergarten by @Corweena (Grand Prize winner: free large property license to be activated by microbuild somewhere in the New Haven Sea) Commerce: Warehouse by @Professor Thaum (Runner-up: free medium property license to be activated by microbuild somewhere in the New Haven Sea) Factory: Brewery by @CapOnBOBS (free small property license to be activated by microbuild somewhere in the New Haven Sea)* see below Art & Culture: Street Theater by @Count Vroskri (free small property license to be activated by microbuild somewhere in the New Haven Sea) Education: Science Academy by @CapOnBOBS (another free small property license to be activated by microbuild somewhere in the New Haven Sea)* see below The Fest Tent by @CapOnBOBS was an extremely close second in the artisan category, and would have been eligible for one of the top two prizes if it had won its category, so one of CapOnBobs's small licenses is hereby upgraded to a medium! Thanks again for all the great entries!

I love the waterwheel design! Very creative! I never would have thought of using the chair piece. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

    Account Summary

@Ayrlego, don't forget to add an account for the Eslandola settlement of Ceniza Bajo. Thanks.
  17. Marvelous build! Love the terrain and the color palette. The tree and vulture are a great touch!
  18. There's so much to like about this build: the vine (especially how it changes from vertical to horizontal surfaces), the colors (I especially like how the light yellow of the house connects to the yellow of the soldiers), and details like the bars of the lower windows. But I think Captain Genaro summed it up best: It's like a fine painting, an image so well put together that it's pleasing to just look at. Bravo.
  19. I like it, and don't see any obvious issues. I'd wait for other members of leadership to chime in, but this has a from me.
  20. Just a reminder that there are only two-and-a-half days left to get your Oktoberfest entries in. Note that there are still no entries for residences, and only 1 entry each in the commerce, factory, and education categories.
  21. With the outbreak of hostilities in the Brick Seas, officials in Salida Este are looking to shore up defenses of the Eslandian jewel of the Azure Sea. Here we see horse-drawn artillery (although the ammunition box appears to be missing from the limber) alongside a line of Ferro Azure's renowned swordsmen, proceeding along a wagon path outside the city. --- Just a small vig to raise two companies of troops in Salida Este. Here's a shot that includes the full height of the tree: I spent a fair amount of time on the terrain, and then the minifigs obscured all my work. (The artillery limber also didn't show well in the pics. ) Here's a pic from above without the figs: All C&C welcome.
  22. Willem Guilder's personal guards are well known in Weelond and easily recognized across the Brick Seas, with their green capes, knee-high boots, wide hats with plumes, and fashionable rapiers. But they are versatile men at arms, equally capable with the musket and on horseback. Many young men in Eslandola aspire to join Guilder's musketeers. And now the director of the MCTC has decided to expand the size of his guard unit. Here they are seen assembling in the warehouse district of Weelond. --- Just a quick build to raise some troops in Weelond. My temporary photography location isn't ideal; the warehouse in this build is actually tan, not yellow! All C&C welcome.
  23. Nice build, and we get an interior! I particularly like the tile work on the front. And that sewing machine is very nice. Would love to see a better picture of just it. Congrats!

    Trade MRCA Deadline October 27

Thank you. And I think when I post the next deadline thread, I'll make sure to highlight the new settlements for each faction.
  25. Wonderful MOC. I love the colors for the ground, and I've got to try that SNOT technique for building up irregular bases. Nice tents, and good overall posing and presentation! Another example of your fine work! That's all the reason you need. And they look good!
