Although I don't think a Falcon this size is feasible, if you really want to give it a try I would definitely start with the internal framework and then work my way out - there's no point in designing landing gear if you don't know whether they will hold the immense weight of the ship.

True, but you could integrate a few http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=87087 or http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11211 in your floor, so you have some studs on top...

I loved Lego when I was a kid, but I started pursuing other hobbies when I was 12. After more than fifteen I have recently gotten into Lego again and one of the first things I noticed is that a few colors appear to come in several different shades. When I studied the parts for my Super Star Destroyer (10221) and the BrickLink orders that recently arrived I noticed several different shades of light bluish grey and dark bluish grey. They came straight out of the box, so I assume they haven't been exposed to sunlight, and I haven't accidentally mixed them up with old grey parts. I assume the batches of paint Lego uses are not all identical. How hard can it be to do a quality check on paint? I mean, the different is quite noticeable if you ask me. I don't recall this being an issue two decades ago. Then again, I was just a child at the time. Am I the only bothered by this? I'm actually considering replacing some parts via BrickLink (and then I will just have to hope that I will receive the proper shade)...

Hi everyone, I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Auke and I live in the Netherlands. As a child I was a big fan of Lego, but I moved on to other hobbies when I went to high school (this was around the end of the previous millennium). Recently, however, I have gotten into Lego again, particularly Star Wars sets. I have seen a number of fabulous MOCs on this forum and in the future I hope to contribute a few as well. You seem to have a great place here and I look forward to contributing.

I can imagine that certain problems arise during real-life construction that wouldn't have appeared in LDD, given the software's unavoidable but inherent shortcomings such as ignoring the effects of gravity. Once again, you did a terrific job. I'd love to design and build something like this some day.

I'm going to BrickLink a 10179 too. I think I'm going to replace the 2 boat rigging pieces by 8 LBG 7x3 bars (ladder, item #6020). I've seen a few pictures of modified Falcon's with these ladders and they look pretty good, IMHO, and it's a much easier solution than painting black boat rigging pieces.

What a fabulous model! I'm utterly impressed! You say you calculated the number of certain pieces you required beforehand - did you design the entire thing (in LDD?) before you started building, or did you just estimate the number of parts needed and effectively design the model while you were building it?
