I went back & read my comment...yeah, I could’ve made it more clear. I did say from a casual consumer POV it might be smart to do. We both know what I mean by dolls...come on.

Nice little build, great little details. Love a good landscape build. Instantly knew what scene was being portrayed.

Didn’t say that. I don’t think they should change a thing, just spitballing. I’m sure the average parent wouldn’t buy a doll for their son or a car for their daughter. The stigma that boys don’t play with dolls would turn those parents off from buying. I’m just assuming all of this, I’m not a parent. If I were I’d buy them whatever it is they wanted(as long as it was LEGO of course).

With this weird study of theirs, it would make sense from a casual consumer perspective. If LEGO’s intent is to get parents more comfortable with buying Friends for their son, it would make sense to get rid of miniDOLLS- boys don’t play with dolls. Granted, a theme with 5 female leads with the color scheme of Friends, I imagine minidolls is the least of why they aren’t being bought for sons. As a 40 year old man who is definitely not the target audience...I never did pay much attention, or care one way or another, to Friends or minidolls. Once I got a few in the LEGO Movie 2 sets, they’re kinda neat. I still haven’t fully read that article, but did it mention how Elves affected the parents polled? I could see an action theme like that being better received by parents looking to buy something for a boy. But they have minidolls, so was that a factor that turned them away...

Well, I was gonna say they can’t possibly be doing all this promo for a contest....but it looks like that’s exactly what it’s for. Hmph. I passed on City originally because of price too(but not the crazy Aussie price...I can only imagine). Even when Docks came out, still nope. Years later I finally decided to bite & bought both City & Docks in one swoop. So at least here in the States they were both on the shelf at the same time. I think they all stand on their own fine but they’re meant to be part of something bigger, just like Expert Modulars. I can see how the strategy is off putting. They really have to wow people with that first installment, but we don’t know if that’s gonna be it or not. If it ended at City personally I would’ve been okay with that as I felt they did a good job of smushing Ninjago City in a one-off. While DA feels incomplete without Gringotts since that’s a centerpiece of the Alley, I’m not overly bothered by it. Of course I want it but as I said before, the set itself isn’t hurting because of it. I’m sure it caused many people to not buy because they felt it was incomplete & aren’t sure if Gringotts is on the way. Then, as you said, if it does later down the road & DA isn’t on the shelf...that’s potentially a lot of lost money to TLG.

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath but it was three years between Ninjago City Docks & Gardens & they all fit together just fine.

That’s a great idea. I was thinking along those lines, just less elegant. Each side could house a vault & a little strip of track with a cart could be in the middle.

Fair, mileage may vary. The set is still amazing without. I was excited & eager to get it day one when it was finally revealed. Not having Gringotts is a bummer, but that doesn’t affect the set itself in any way.

Aww, he doesn’t look scary! Unless people really don’t like being licked. Nobody scary wears Chuck Taylor’s. Great little scene, the crack is well done & the ghost has a ton of character. Love the streams too. -
I think Star Lord’s looks best. It’s a bit too tall, but it has better sides(where Captain Falcon’s doesn’t).

I can’t see them not making Gringotts. The DA set being without it didn’t take anything away from the set, Gringotts will only add to that amazing set. How would they make Gringotts is the big question. They can’t make it not compatible with DA, so having an built in underground track section wouldn’t work. I can see them making it an all encompassing build though. Having the interior be SS based(even with the AC this year) & also including the Ironbelly. Adding the vaults, both 713 & Bellatrix’s are where I’m stumped. Side builds could work but DA didn’t have any, so I don’t know.

Some odds & ends from B&P. One of each of those new black & white swords from Ninjago, two black door frames to finish off my extra Hogwarts Express cars, the new bright green bike from Seinfeld..and finally, the other 7 cats for Mrs Scratchen-Post. She was getting lonely with just two.

Definitely. The crossover would likely shelve an action theme like that at least until MK retires. Even then, maybe not. MK isn’t much of a sales threat to Ninjago I’m sure considering the exclusivity of the theme. I’d settle for it under the Ninjago banner. Lloyd & Zane’s Titan Mechs are both amazing.

Love this. I really like the use of 1x1’s on the walls of that blue building. That dark grey design in the sidewalk is a neat detail as well. And the outdoor seating area is a nice addition.

I think the complaint with the wall colors goes back to the Cottage, which was also blue(different shade). I too think it’s great, with the dark blue trim along with it. I’m still going back & forth about a second sleigh. I’m perfectly happy with the 4. I still may end up getting a second one, but won’t be bothered if I decide not to.

I agree. I absolutely love the theme. The color schemes are great, especially Mei’s & MK’s. The builds have been enjoyable so far, i have 5(not including the polybag). The minifig designs are all fun. I don’t see why they think the sets wouldn’t sell here with a wider availability. Granted they’re noticeably different, but with the demand of wanting the CNY sets one would imagine TLG would know the demand for Asian inspired sets is there. I’d also like to see something like Exo-Force make a return. As a kid I loved Exo Squad(which were kinda like space pirates...) & with the amazing mechs they’ve been putting out lately, I think it would be a hit.

This sounds like a better idea than what we’re officially getting. For one, it’s a single use. Two, the hotel rooms are going to be extremely cramped given the shape of the building. Having floors that are more sparse would be better than furnished hotel rooms. Either way I’m still very excited & intrigued to see how they pulled this off. -

That’s interesting & a cool design, but that doesn’t read Flat Iron. Wouldn’t the description say it was two triangles joined if that were the case? I’m not sure what is meant by “...ground floor which is an extension of the main building.” I’m definitely intrigued to see how they pull this off, but I have every confidence in the designers. -

Corner Garage is retiring at the end of year, so I would imagine you have until the end of next year for the Bookshop, probably longer though. And I just checked on Brickset, it says Dec 2023 as it’s retirement. -

Sounds very odd. With it’s shape, how will it connect to other buildings...and the interior is gonna be cramped. And what could this GWP be? We haven’t seen a Modular tie in since the Flower Cart with DO. I wonder if it’ll tie in with the set like that one did, or just be an anniversary deal. -
I tried using the trans clear 15M beams from Anakin & Sebulba’s Podracers for the underside of the sleigh & reindeer. I put some pins with studs to connect them. Sadly they don’t stay put in the sleigh’s undercarriage very well. Otherwise I think it’s pretty sturdy. Gonna think about ways I can strengthen it some & see if it works out.

Black boxes for all! I never did make it to anything Elves(because other stuff was priority), but it was a great theme. It would be interest to hear first hand how target age boys feel about that. I don’t really have a big opinion on mindolls, despite clearly not being the demo they we’re after. I have a few thanks to the LEGO Movie 2 sets & I like them just fine. I do really like Sweet Mayhem though. I was surprised by this article as well as I thought they did away with gender bias stuff years ago by integrating more females in stereotypical boy roles throughout themes. Yeah, I’m failing to see the point to this announcement. I’m not sure how much sway this will have on parents who aren’t interested in buying their kids the “other side” toys. Advertising is powerful so the previous suggestion of having boys playing with Friends set, perhaps with some sort of caption identifying it has his LEGO would be the best bet for the outcome they are looking for.

Isn’t saying “teenage girl fantasy” in that fashion cherry picking? I’m familiar with Friends, I give it a look every once in awhile, but they have those girls doing damn neat everything under the sun. Of course there’s going to also be stereotypical girl stuff....because girls like that stuff. Aren’t minidolls a thing because their girl focus groups asked for them? I don’t think they would’ve changed from minifigs for Friends had it not been a plus. The big question is, how do you change the minds of those parents? Do they release a big new action theme that TLG knows will be a hit with girls, but give us the reverse when it comes to minifigs-3 to 4 females & 1 male? Or all females? I wonder how the average parent would see that? A “boys” toy full of female heroes, would they buy it for their son/daughter or avoid it altogether? Would either kid even want it?
