Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic

Well, at least TLG's D2C team gets enough time to select a new car (either F1, 959, something exotic like a Lancia Delta Integrale) and get it prototyped and get a box art done and get the necessary authenticity seals and shoot the Designer showcase and... and... yeah, let's just be patient, aye? This is becoming a popular subset, and they wouldn't run out of legendary cars to build. -

The greatest bus in the world (debatable), the fastest supercar of the 80's, the last true Mini (save for the R50-R53 Mini). The most detail-rich set, the richest-in-techniques set, the smoothest-looking and slickest-built set. What a poster. The next Adv. Mod. car will have tough acts to follow. Is there a 1600x900 version? -
I am more inclined to predict McLaren F1, but your choice is just as neat.

Huw reviewed it! I think he loves the set, and an observant commenter noted the way the car was built. Yep, deffo gonna have it. But I'll wait for a free polybag version. -
+1That folding roof piece in the Market building... are there still more of those?

Sariel's got the review! And from what I saw and heard, he finds it a fine set. -
Homing Hammond Missiles! You reviewed the UCS F40! And I think you dig it. Now for my multiple bullet-point drivel: See? The sticker sheet isn't that big. Those new wedge-slope parts would deffo be used for big M-tron builds. The roof, meanwhile, is a tad bit inelegant with the seams formed by the Technic beams. Green plates? I surmised they're for mounting the model to your ceiling. "You know there's a problem when even Richard struggles to get in." No he didn't. Even James May fit in the car when he shook it down in a DVD special. "On the bright side, the car is much sturdier than it looks..." impressive, for a $300,000+ Italian supercar. Good thing the enigne can open that far. Hammond should re-check the internals. The car might not start again for a Stig Lap. Who was the voice-over in the Forza clip? "The new wheels covers look great..." I'm with you on that. "...it's a pity they are specific to one car, though." Most other 80's to 90's cars also have those wheels or would look just as good with them. I agree with you on the rear engine cover. Boss work there. If only the 90 in the price was in Philippine Peso... *sigh* Probably if there's a contest I can get into, but I don't build well. Looks like a solid set, one that hols its own well with the Brit Green Leyland Mini model. It will be hard to motorize, yes--that's what you get with a super-focused supercar that has no driver aids, no A/C, a manual, and strings for door handles--but I believe in your power to motorize this. And I bet it will go quicker than the Mini, too. It's the first production car to break the 200 mph barrier, after all. Now I seriously wanna go see its race model, the F40 Competizione. AND DON'T YOU DARE PUT MONSTER TRUCK WHEELS, TANK TREADS OR THE WALKER IN IT OR FERRARI WILL NEVER LET TLG SEND YOU A COPY OF ANOTHER FERRARI CAR!!!!!! They made a similar threat to owners who wanted to send the LaFerrari to be tested on TopGear UK, but the one in bold? *Vitruvius voice on* I made that up, it's not true *Vitruvius voice off* Now go take your Richard Hammond to the actual Richard Hammond .

Quite. Of course, it'd be bigger, better, and would have many more companion sets to make a whole school system. Maybe even a College Building for a Modular! (But that's be in its topic.)

I'd back up the Hospital sub-theme and augment it with the addition of a Pharmaceuticals set, but how about a Schools theme? Shouldn't those kids be studying and the professionals be having masters and doctorates? Have it as one big school cut up in, say, 6 sets that can be put up together, plus a 6-fig Starter Set and one School Bus. One set can be the Library, the other the Computer Room, a Classroom, Canteen, a Gym for sports and a Science Lab/Classroom. Imagine all the new printed parts that the sets will bring! And we might even get a board piece that can be written on! Also, an Industries sub-theme. Car factories, repair shops, foundries, shipyards and dockyards, food processing, and appliances. Stretch it for 5 years. I wanna see TLG come up with fig-scale versions of our home appliances and the things used to make them. For trains... how about a Classic Underground line?

What do you think can be modified with this set to carry all of the Hammonds you have? And even with a 1-meter boom? Also, suspension. Is it possible? :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: :head_back: You should do more outtake clips, sir. And I think it's a good thing the drive is slow. You wouldn't want any of your hamsters to use 'em. I heard them plotting to use that wrecking ball attachment in 9457 to lay waste to your home! -

That short a wheelbase and it has a V10? Jeroen, I must congratulate you. You have found the recipe for an incredible-handling handful of a car, or, as some people call it, a Stratos. -

I give this quote the Burn of the Year Award. -
Permission to put this theme down hard and bury it like E.T the Game?
-
Incredible, really. On one end you have one of the most magnificent Technic sets ever done and a swoon-worthy Ferrari F40. On the other, you have this. You wouldn't believe those came from the same company, but then, we can vote with our wallets. If you really hate this theme, don't buy it. It's beating a dead horse, I admit, but it's true. Decide between which is more worth buying and building, then act on that.

I was close to. Gimme another shot and another theme.

Is that a one-piece egg? EDIT: just2good beat me by that much.

Well, we haven't had a proper Technic ship or a Technic version of the Big Ben, but that's just me. And other than that, I agree with you on all the stuff you said. -

Good to know. Now how do I fit them all in 4 studs wide a space? -

That banana is, I think, a sign of things to come (I'm excited to see this with treads and your nefarious spiffy walker, but start with Trophy Truck-spec). . . . . Whoa. Mr. Kossmann just topped his Unimog and topped it bigtime with this beast. What an impressive piece of kit. It's such a packed set, really. Packed almost to the brim with parts, functionality, and loads of hoses. I'm impressed. I think the red parts would make for (huge) pistol slide parts The new and bigger (and smooth-as-a-baby's-bottom) turntable... it's about 8 studs in diameter. Looks like I can use it for some bigger trucks. Good thing Spidey decided to join Mercedes. I heard their F1 team is on a roll these days. Hmm... I think 15L or 21L cylinders would do the trick if you're looking for range. We have to wait, though. For now, 11L is enough for what I have in mind more on that later). And you're right about the tubing. I wonder how it can be made cleaner? "Motorized function 3: Dumping. The favorite function of your ex..." yeah, you just won my heart over. Watch out, though: your hamsters may do just that to you and go to some other up-and-coming Technic reviewer! How dare you not put Richard Hammond *sniff**sniff* in the driver's seat?! He's adept at truck driving, and would have been a cool ride as they fetch a Spaniel and a wild orangutan to go to either ITV or Netflix. I so do want to use the thin cylinders for a 4-wide MOC, but I fear that the cylinder wouldn't work on their own, but then fitting a whole pneumatic system in 4-studs wide a space (I'm making a 16-axle mobile crane) presents a big problem when it comes to packaging the model. Would they work as itself without breaking down on me or do I have to fuss with the whole system still? -

WHOA. Fact is, it took me a second reading just to let the model's greatness sink in. Now for a few things... I so do want to use the 1/11 cylinder in a 4-wide heavy-equipment model (16-axle mobile crane) and the 2x2/11L in a 6-wide model (a mix of this one and this one, but with more axles), but I worry about the integration of the cylinders, the valves, and the pump, especially in 4-wide. Do these cylinders work on their own? And will they break when they do so? Those new turntables. They'll be some most-wanted parts, but if they show up in more sets... well, why not? Pure intimidation on the last construction-site shot. Would be mistaken for the real thing. It rocks. Expensive, yes (I need more scratch cards!), but seriously, Jim, make this a family heirloom, one that can be passed to future generations.
