Linear Actuator Gearbox
TheItalianBrick replied to anton1678's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
OMG no way dude!! never meant to get angry at you!!! i did use the world "fail" I admit it's not an appropriate one!! Really sorry and apoligize for the missunderstanding!!!  I actually never get angry, specially here in this case there is no reason for getting angry!! Sorry again! -
Linear Actuator Gearbox
TheItalianBrick replied to anton1678's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
sorry but looks like a fail as mine has 1 motor for drive, 1 motor for change and it get's 8 function...your only 4!!! ok sorry I did explain it in a wrong way! what I meant is that for each channel you have 4 functions, where I have 8 functions for each channel. Obviolsy if we speak about number at their power you could do the same with mine. So somehow no limitations on these things, a part from the torque unfortunately! -
The Hummer
TheItalianBrick replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First of all I would say it look impressivly strong, simple and due to it's sliding soul looks like works very well! But as I said we are still talking about sliding gears engagement, soon I'll come out with my huge moc where the gearbox it's a pendular switching one. It get's more piece of mind in terms of torque, specially when we use 2 or 4 XL motor on our vehicles! You know what I'm talking about! Anyway, dude, your Hummer it's such a wonderful creation! I love it as hell!   -

this configuration makes one of the two output dead. However, you should be breaking the bevel gears. -
4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
show me the scheme please! I need to build something with 127 functions. one will be unused...you never know in the future I may need of it aswell LOL  That's why I said at the beginning you need to group them in a smart way!! this module I created is mostly suitable for a wheeled huge crane. and it's easy to understand that when you drive, you don't need to raise the boom LOL  -
Ideas on how to add steering?
TheItalianBrick replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok, just quickly, I would say get rid of the blackparts in the middle of the "castle" construction (the two grey top and bottom squares), then replace them with a 2L pieces that works the same way, but leaves the finla part of the "castle" empty. this will give you the necessary space for placing a beam for steering. then connect the beam with a perpendicular 3L beam crossaxle. I do apoligize for my poor english. Would be easier to do it rather than explain it, but beeing at my office now can't really do it for you! Otherwise even easier: where the UV join is, extend the axle 1 stud longer, add a beam. on top of the beam place a rack. or even a simple T rack would be good, if not better! -

Absolutely cool!!! what you mean you lack at skills? don't be silly....start to build it (if not real at least LDD) and whenever you need an help simply pop up and ask!!! What would be the meaning of a forum if not to help eachother??  -
Winches on trucks: dedicated motor, or connected to drive motors?
TheItalianBrick replied to Hrafn's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sounds a bit weird. I mean....you still need a channel (or anyway one of the two aveilable "slot" of the channel) to drive a motor for the shifting. So why not to use it for a dedicate L motor with a great reduction? this way the winch would have it's on motor, without increasing the number of gears (and friction too) from a distribution transmission. Personally I find it cool to have a distribution transmission cos it makes the model more complicated and sophisticated, but if performances is what you are looking for then I would say you better dedicate a motor to the winch! Overall it's a personal consideration....you'll be fine both ways!!! -

lol good for you...but if you need 32 functions? lol!!!!  -

TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You need neutral position for 3 of the 4 axles if you want to use 4 functions at time. simply to understand! -
4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, at least made officialy by LEGO  if you look at the past.....50 years ago....you can't even say they were "LEGO". it's called evolution.... -

well...I only use LEGO parts!! well mindstorms is ok..but it doesn't sound "LEGO TECHNIC" either...so... -

TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello, servos achieve the central position but don't hold the left or right position, unless you use the " LEGO® Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control" Normal motors are much better, specially if used with worm gears to be more accurate in terms of position! Already tried, works very well!! -

4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello Daniel, thanks for your comment! You got the point, iI mean 32 functions it's the highest combinations reachable with this system. But if you only need 15-20 functions you still can have 2 channels, for istances, (within as many motors you want) for driving and steering! or why not a motor for airpump if decide to have a pneumatic model...... I only gave the basic idea, everybody then can develop it according to it's needs! I reckon within 20 functions (which are already a lots!!!) should be all right and smooth!!! -
Help me choosing
TheItalianBrick replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
would be cool to have it in reality!!!! Anyway....if in doubt, do all of them then!!!  -

You guys give me an idea of a vehicle with 32 functions and I'll make a LDD of it!! I DEFINITELY ACCEPT THE CHALLANGE!!! -
4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I see your point, sure. Obviously we must be wise at designing such a complex vehicle trying to reduce friction as much as we can! Plus the 42009 it's such a wonderful creation, but technical wise it's design it's restricted due to the "production" and the fact it has to be sellable and has to creat profit for the company! We are talking about custom products here. I'll make it work...you can bet on it! And if not 32 functions....at least it will have 20 or more!!! -
4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You don't loose any torque as each axle is moved only once at time. and it only engages a gear at time! plus as i said they don't have to be "in lane" as we see in the pics. it's just an idea! I don't give up lol!!! Ok, now think about a wheeled crane, like a Liebherr 1200, 9 axles wheel. Obviously you you want to extend the triggers, and low them. these are 2 functions. once you've done it you are not gonna use those functions for a while. You can use one of the four XL motor for the boom operations, one of the XL motor for the driving operations, one of the XL motor for the triggers operations, and one of the XL motor for few more things. (we are talking about 32 functions afterall....but it could be 15, 20...whatever!) So this way you have 4 different "topics" and playability it's great! -
4 channels, 8 motors, 32 independent functions
TheItalianBrick replied to TheItalianBrick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yes but we are talking about 32 functions........if you only need 20, for istances, you can easily squeeze it! plus they don't necessary need to be on the same axle. Mine it's only the concept behind it! but then everybody can develope it as needeed! -

The Hummer
TheItalianBrick replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well executed. Really love it! The only thing I see all the time is a common mistake with gearbox, gears sliding rather than swinging. It's well know that lego gears suffer for a sliding engagement, where with a swing movement would be much smoother. Overall it's such a wonderfull piece of art!!!      P.S. what about a winch?? Could be cool!!
