I admit it might not of been the best word to describe it. Its just that in this situation, a seller with just 1 of the parts in question wants about $1.50 for it. The seller who has 8 of the same part wants $6 for them. For me, it actually was cheaper to buy the number I needed from the higher priced seller, instead of having to pay the same shipping cost x4 from 4 separate sellers at the lower price...some of which have minimum purchase requirements...

The sliding doors are a lot around $4 each, the green 2x2 plate for the drill press is about $4 and up. The yellow spool holder is pricey too and pretty rare. Finding anyone that has more than one of the 1x14 technic bricks in red meant $6 each. That's pricey for me! I guess a big part is no one seller has more than a couple parts in the right colors.

^ I thought about just paying to get the actual set, but I've found that I love the hunt for parts just as much as having the set, so figure it's a good compromise. Some key parts are becoming extremely rare for it though.

Well, I contacted the seller about the high additional charge and they said it was an error, and reduced it to $1. So feel a little better about it. Something I forgot to mention was that in this sellers terms, was that a $.75-$1 charge would be added, or waived at their discretion. So when I saw $2.50 was added, I just felt I was getting gouged, on top of paying a premium. I agree, rare bits do need to be priced higher, since as time goes by, they will become unavailable. I really have to decide if substitute parts or colors exist before I try to start a project.

I have been gathering the parts to build this shed set, and ouch, it has some pricey elements to it. I am not going to pay for the doors, am going to modify to substitute the newer 6 high doors, same with the windows. I don't think it will change the look too much. Those 1x14 red technic bricks are ridiculously pricey, if you can even find them, I think just 2 sellers in USA. The yellow and some green parts are out there too... Is it that this set is on the list of gouger parts like the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer modulars? Why is it those are the sets I always want to build?! Haha...

I just want to vent, about greedy, gouging BL sellers. I am trying to put together an old set from parts, and of course, because of its age, it needs some hard to find parts. Well, I am down to just a few more needed and found a seller that had the parts. Talking about $6 each for some technic bricks, because of the color, which is red. Well, the total order came to around $25 for 17 pieces total, barely over 1 ounce, and with packaging, probably only about 2 ounces. That would only be about $2 to ship within the USA. Well, they also added an additional $2.50 on top of the $2 they want for the shipping. It took me a while to finally convince myself to go ahead and buy the parts, since the rest of the set wouldn't work without them. So when they hit me with the extra charges, I just got mad. I wish I could stick to just my favorite sellers, that are reasonable, but many times that can't be done. OK, end of rant.

Type 1 has hinge pin holes on both front and back, and type 2 has pin holes only on one side. BL has a photo comparing them side by side. Here is a screen capture showing the difference.

Yes it is $199.99. Same price as the Simpson's House for 344 FEWER parts.. :-)

I was busy working on a new set the other day, it was a pretty windy and sort of rainy day outside, perfect time to spend building. Well as I am opening up the bags to sort the parts, I realize that I must be statically charged. It was most noticeable with the smaller parts, 1x1's but I would put them on the table and as I got close to the parts, they would move away from me, and even fall over. It was kind of annoying, some parts ended up on the floor. I guess the wind was generating static and was transferring to me, and making the Lego repel! Weird. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

I think it was just an available decorative piece at the time it originally came out, no particular significance.

I have gotten a few extras in the past, and they have always told me to just keep them.

Running out of time for all but the DO and PR....all the rest are on borrowed time... :-)

Yes, it working normally for me. It probably needed refreshing. Sometimes happens after they have a maintenance period.

I've gotten a large portion of my parts from a Simpson's House set I parted out. Its one of the few sets that have a ton of actual bricks, plates and tiles that can be very useful. The windows are a great improvement, not having holes in the wall! Haha. Only have to modify the way the angled window units are assembled to make it work and not fall apart. They do run parallel to the wall instead of the original perpendicular to the wall.

The Simpson's House set is completely finished off inside, even the garage. $200 though...

Thanks, it's the azur blue and light bluish gray. I was going to use the med blue like in the back wall, but felt the lighter blue was better.

I tried to take a few photos of my progress on a Cafe Corner. I am pretty happy with the results. I did make substitutions due to cost/availability, and also to modernize the build with the currently available parts. I am calling it "La porte café rouge" :-), since I went with red doors for the Cafe and the hotel entrance. I put together an interior, using what I have in my collection, and it looks pretty good. I used some of the new Elves fence pieces in pearl gold for around the kitchen area of the cafe. I also added a back door, where the trash cans now reside. Also on the exterior, besides the red doors, I used an alternating color scheme of light and dark bluish gray skis for the fan above the door. Also, to contrast with the reddish brown roof, I used dark brown for the cornice line. Otherwise, it would of been all reddish brown and that would look too monotone. Everything else is as spec for a factory model. Oh, I also added the edge to the two awnings, to make it similar to the way the GG awning is done. I think it looks less monolithic with that detail added. Hope you like it as much as I do. Still to do is the hotel interiors, I am thinking rooms on the 1st (2nd level) and maybe a billiard room on the 2nd (3rd level)...using the design from the Detective's Office modular. Still trying to decide...

The gargoyles on the top outer corners of Arkham Asylum Breakout probably should be illegal, they fall apart with practically no help!

You mean on the Cafe Corner.

March's Double VIP- What are you buying?
talos replied to TheFuzz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Shipped today apparently, not that they sent me an email about it..LOL. I have been randomly checking the status myself. Shipping 10 days earlier than estimated is good, but then again, they usually do ship earlier than they show on the site. -

Tower of Orthanc expected ship date of 13 April. (in USA, anyway) -
I probably would toss the hopelessly damaged parts. I haven't had any to date, worst thing I have had to work with has been sticker goo and yellowing, which can be mostly corrected. I have some really scratched up window glass, that I am debating getting polished.

Here in California, 4th year of drought, all the flowers started back in December, I am glad it is still green on the hills for now! Lego flowers may be all I get soon! :(
