Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
talos replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I just read on The Brick Fan that the end is here for PS, no more stock to stores, but can still get it on S@H. Shows a ship by end of March availability. I have one built and one unopened, so thats it for me.. -
March's Double VIP- What are you buying?
talos replied to TheFuzz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I tried ordering the Tower of Orthnac too, and wasn't there early enough to get one, I am in the same boat, with the standard 30 day wait notice. I think it won't take that long to get though...hopefully. The other thing I ordered was the Pirates Chess Set, and that is back ordered as well! Its been a day now and still haven't got any email confirmation, I just printed out the order when I placed it. I think that is because it is still the weekend though. -

Try clearing the cache file...It gets corrupt on me, and just a couple page changes makes it not work. -
How do you control your spending & what do you collect
talos replied to Seeky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have eliminated a few other expenses to make more room for Lego...its sort of working! Haha... -

Oh gee, I wasn't fast enough and what I wanted to get is backordered now...and the website is toast, it won't let me get to the payment page...great, just great. They are making record profits and their website is toast... arghh! Addendum.. the only browser that worked for me was Safari, Chrome choked...Firefox choked...LOL -
I stopped looking at any videos a while back...got tired of them. I only liked Brickformula (actually had a script and could do it well), and he stopped making videos...so no biggie. I might look at the official Lego stuff, but even that is tiresome to me...

^I had to do that once, and they have a couple ways to look you up if you don't have the actual card yet. I think you can sign up and get a number without actually buying anything too...so do it now and then you have a number to use on Saturday. :-) -
I would substitute anything that has been improved with time, all the old door and window choices especially. I think the look is maintained or improved by doing that. Its still going to cost a lot anyway!

I was inspired by everyone's great looking rebrick projects, so I decided to do my own Green Grocer too. I decided on using tan bricks. I had a scrificial Simpson's House to supply the majority of bricks for it. The tan notched bricks seemed the best choice cost-wise for me, and I like how it looks. Only thing I lost was the character line that goes around on the first floor level really. I think it looks fine with it all the same color though. I used orange for the curtains, another cost-wise choice. The only other notable substitutions are in the ground floor tile floor in the shop. I used some different colors there. trans red and trans green, because I had those on hand in my parts collection. Also the awning color, I used a light blue, again because I had those parts on hand. I added another section of ladder to the fire escape, it allows it to reach the ground and folds up like the original. I do need to substitute the right parts for the fire escape railing though, the parts I used are one size too short. I added some tiles to the rear pavement too, I might connect the two entrances and add some more plants. I have to say reading the other comments on people that can get all the parts in just 1 or 2 orders from bricklink, I wish I could say I was able to do that! I think I had to make about 8 orders to get what I needed for this! Here are a couple photos I took today.

I doubt there will ever be any more 3X points, business is too good! -
I save the PDF files and then open in Acrobat Professional and then zoom in, for the most part, I can see the colors better. I tried printing one set out on my laser printer and the colors were hard to distinguish. I think the printer had the wrong color set or something. I just zoom in instead on the screen now. Trying to use the PDF in a browser is not a good idea.

I might want the Pirates Chess set, it has the making of a collectors item, I think. They had 3 in stock last week at my nearest store, but now its out of stock online... Might get back in stock before the 2x is over... -
I think its hard to factor tax into it. I think the msrp is a more uniform measure. My tax here in California is 9%..unfortunately..
-
All good advice above. I think BrickLink is the better choice, for most of my needs. Especially factoring in how long a PaB order takes to be delivered. You definitely must utilize the 'Catalog' information on BrickLink, to find the best prices. Then use the 'Search' to find the right seller. Definitely need to follow the learning curve on BrickLink.

New 2015 LEGO Town-esque house set found at the LEGO Store
talos replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
I was just at my local Lego store yesterday and did not see this anywhere. Also, looking for it on S@H, its listed under 'Classic' category. I would of thought it would fall under 'storage' ...like the other similar sets... They haven't fixed the incorrect 2nd photo yet, either! I would of bought one, if I had seen it... :\ -

I want to get Tower of Orthanc also, and hope it does hold out till mid month. I was at my store today and they didn't have any in stock. It still shows available on S@H. I keep checking.. :-) The Easter set was sold out on the first day available, yesterday, so I was out of luck getting one. I did get a free shipping card from them, and they are still available online...Its going to sell out before the 2X points come, I am sure of it. -

Good for him, I used to watch his videos, but he just talks toooo much! I find myself fast forwarding. I kind of prefer videos that show the set being built, more useful for me. -
That is what happened at my store here in California, it sold out yesterday, so I was out of luck going today...Haha. They gave me a free shipping card so I got 2 online.

Which set is the one you enjoyed building the most?
talos replied to BlackVagrant's topic in Community
I think I find the bigger sets the most fun. The more time and complexity the better.. I just got a Medieval Market Village set (10193), off of BrickLink. I had a great time putting it together, its a nice size, lots of detail and features. Lot of minifigs and accessories too. I have a great time finding something I like and then BrickLinking it together, finding the parts is a big part of the fun, to me. Though, it can be a little expensive. -
I'm going to go to my Lego store to get this, I think 2, one for me, and one for my niece. I hear its probably going to sell out fast too...

Review: 10193 Medieval Market Village
talos replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I am late to the party on this set, I got one off of BrickLink, for more than it sold for originally..arghh...oh well. It looked like such a nice set, I had to get it. I love it, it looks just fantastic, nice proportions to the buildings, and tons of extras and minifigs. There is even some dung bits in the horse stalls (dark brown carrots/clubs) LOL. I wish there was something in the current line-up of sets that comes close to this! I am finding myself searching for all the old sets I missed out on, in my dark ages.. instead of new stuff. -

29 pages of comments... does anyone know the USA price? Say, $250? -
I have only modified one part, one time, to make a flag pole from a part (99784), I used cutters to cut off the 2 stud end to make it work...it looks like an actual part, no one knows but me... :-)
