    Storage and Sorting LEGO

Ooh that's kinda cool. Probably wouldn't be useful for sorting/storing anything long term, but it would be great for decorating. Get a few thousand plates or tiles and make a whole-wall mosaic, and then in a few months if you decide you want a change, pull everything off and make a new one.

    Several Micro Spaceships

Over the last few weeks I've been building a lot of microscale ships. Not technically a fleet (though 2 of the ones I've made so far are meant to be the same faction, so I will probably eventually make a fleet for them), more of a collection of assorted ships. In the order I built them: "Serene Chaos" by brickmack, on Flickr "Serene Chaos", a cargo ship made from an old refitted warship. T9 Cargo Transport by brickmack, on Flickr T-9 Cargo Transport, a small type of cargo ship with 16 magnetic cargo containers. Nebula-class Space Construction Ship by brickmack, on Flickr Nebula-class Space Construction Ship, used for constructing large orbital stations and ships, which could not be built on the ground. Mako-class Frigate by brickmack, on Flickr Mako-class frigate, a small ship used by the United Earth Navy. Dalatiidae-Class Fighter Carrier by brickmack, on Flickr Dalatiidae-Class Fighter Carrier, a fighter transport used by the United Earth Navy. The UEN ships are both named after types of sharks. All of these are built roughly to a scale of 1 stud=4 meters. Also if anyone is interested, here is one of the concept drawings I made before building (with real one on the right) Design Drawings by brickmack, on Flickr

    Several Micro Spaceships

This was the first time I've drawn anything before building, though somewhere I've got a stack of drawings I never made in LEGO from a year or so ago. I've got some more drawings of ships at this scale, which I will probably post once I get around to building them. Normally I don't draw like this much, but it seems to help with these ships more than, say, starfighters. Excluding drawing time, each one took about 45 minutes-2 hours to build and photograph.

    Several Micro Spaceships

Oddly, I've never seen any of those, other than a few minutes of BSG. BSG and B5 are both ones I plan to watch though.

    Bigger sets vs Smaller sets

I prefer the way it's done now. With many smaller sets, it will likely end up costing more even if the small sets total up the the same part count as the big one, because of the extra packaging, instructions, production costs, not to mention that for a lot of big sets, TLG reduces the price per part a bit.

Have you ever bought LEGO in "secret"?

Never bought any in secret, but I'm sure if I ever get married or anything I probably will. You could always try making her something in LEGO, I imagine gifts would probably reduce any existing dislike of it *Not responsible if this goes wrong somehow, don't blame me...

    Your Lego table/ work station

I already know of a solution, it needs one of the legs screwed on (currently it's just sitting on one of the legs, but I've been too lazy to fix it... UPDATE: Finally fixed it, so hopefully it won't collapse and spray 80+ pounds of plastic all over.

    Your Lego table/ work station

I have a 6 feet by about 1.5 feet wood table (which is in constant danger of falling over and need to be replaced...) which is against a wall (not ideal for building, but I have no room to put it in the middle because of my bed...) On the corner of the table is the Tower Bridge, and the rest is normally covered in random parts and drawings. Next to it is a few sorting drawer sets nailed to a wall. I'll post pictures if I manage to clear it off (currently covered by a large unfinished project that I dont intend to share yet).

    Why so few animals?

Mice as evil? Gross maybe, but not evil. The rest I agree with though. TLG seems to be under the odd impression that those things are the only ways to get kids to like it. Anyway, that's a different topic... Some new animals would be nice, but I doubt we will get a lot at once in a zoo theme. From what I've read, it costs TLG a lot to make a new mould, so any sets with a new one are likely to be more expensive. Therefore, a theme/set full of many new moulds would probably cost a lot more than normal, which makes people less likely to buy them, so TLG won't profit much. Whick means they won't do it. I'm sure we will continue to get a steady stream of new animals though. Also, I just looked and it seems I have more horses than I have room for. Odd...

    [MOC] Pride of Mandalore

Looks great. I just saw the original a few days ago, this mini version seems to capture the shape and a lot of the detailing fairly well.

    Where is Space 2012?

I agree with this, the sets are often way overpriced, but so many new parts have come out of it, I think it's probably one of the most important things LEGO ever did in terms of parts, and not just in scifi. Many parts commonly used now (such as most of the curved parts) were originally created for SW. And even if you don't want to overpay for the set, the parts are quickly available on Bricklink.

    Roofing large spaces

Is that actually very strong? From my experience usually double layering plates alone isn't strong enough unless extra supports are added.

    Why isn't Cuusoo more popular?

I never really understood why TLG used Cuusoo for this service, I imagine they have to pay that company for eacn sale they make through it, and with TLG's teams of web designers and programmers, one would imagine they could have just created it on their own and ended with a similar product in a relatively short period. This would probably also make it much more popular, since they could name it something more self-explanatory than "Cuusoo", and users wouldn't have to create an account at another new site to use it.

    MOC: Scrabble set

LEGO Battleship would be great. There really isn't enough microscale in official sets.

    Why isn't Cuusoo more popular?

As for the set ideas needing a franchise to be popular, I have noticed that to some extent. I suppose there is probably a lot helping these ideas, such as often having large fan bases, both in and out of the LEGO community, which vote for them. Movies and such simply tend to be very popular. LEGO seems to be open to making licensed sets from Cuusoo though, as best evidenced by the new Minecraft sets.

    Sci-Fi Forum General Discussion

Great that we get some new stuff now. As for the banner, have a few figs from the old themes (classic space, blacktron, etc), one or 2 from a newer theme (SPIII, Alien Conquest), and probably at least 1 alien. And since the other branches of scifi are kinda ignored in the current banner, maybe have a steampunk mech or something in the background. Not really sure though.

    MiG-75 Fpxbat

Looks great. The body to cockpit and cockpit to nose transitions look nice. Not very often that cockpit part is used.

    Do you dream of LEGO?

Probably not. In most cases like this, it's either entirely coincidental, or the person has a dream, only remembers part of it, and then something happens that is vaguely like the dream, and their brain fills in the blanks without them realizing it. So the dream itself was likely different in several ways than you remember it. Of course you could theoretically be predicting things (very unlikely though), I recommend keeping a dream journal and recording dreams within a few minutes of waking up, so you can tell if you actually are predicting things or just your brain messing with your memory...

    Preventing LEGO sunlight damage

If I were to guess, probably about 99% as effective... Yea that's true from what I've read. Most UVA is blocked but there is little effect on UVB by normal windows.

    Do you dream of LEGO?

Lots. A few months ago I had a nightmare that my shelf with my dozen or so MOCs (As well as boxes containing thousands of minifig parts, technic pins, tiles, etc) and the tower bridge set fell over, spilling roughly 20,000 pieces on the floor. I have a lot more fun dreams also though, last night I dreamt I won a raffle and got my pick of 100,000 USD worth of sets and parts, which I got to hand-pick at a factory. Then I woke up and got sad...
  21. Of course, since LEGO doesn't directly take the design and use it, they have a lot of options to make it more affordable. They could break the town up into sections, remove some of the figs, reduce the parts needed for some areas by either simplifying the design or replacing the parts (2 1x4 tiles could be replaced by 1 2x4, etc), and several other options. If they did release it, I'm sure it wouldn't be quite as expensive as the original (Or at least in smaller less expensive chunks). </slightlyoffmaintopic>
  22. Looks cool, I might have to get it. I wish the supports were clear though.., I see a minifigure on the box, anyone know who that's supposed to be?
  23. Yea, I think they've done that for the past few.

    Lego Best Links, for news

I've been looking for somewhere that reports on that for a while, but haven't found anything. I normally just read the reviews for every hew set that comes out, skim through it if the set itself doesn't interest me, and find the interesting parts section. It would be nice if there was a complete list every year/release period of all new parts, prints, colors, etc.

    LEGO Magazine 2004 Dec Information?

Wow, I never realized LEGO did non-drawing based comics before... Looks cool (photography I mean, story is absurd at best...)
