My wallet's already aching over the first wave, so I'm just fine with only 5 Summer sets, though quite a few will likely be proper titans.

I said it a while back, LOSS reminds me of 2001 Rahi in general because of his somewhat-inflexible, Technic-heavy build.

Well, this video confirms that the protectors won't be mindless robots. Look at those little fellows fishing away!

It's tragic because we have to wait The video: Well, Ekimu certainly is an interesting development. Perhaps the name Mata-Nui is being saved for something else? Even if not, I can understand why it was changed; Mata-Nui doesn't sound very good alongside Makuta, whereas the name Ekimu fits better for two beings who are likely to be literal brothers. The story presented so far is simplistic, but so was the original BIONICLE's when it first came out, so I can't judge anything about that yet. I am glad we're getting a mask quest, hopefully it means we might get mask packs. Lastly, I am again getting a very Dwemer vibe from Ekimu and Makuta, just as I did from the MOCr concept art. It is a fitting association, since in TES, the Dwemer were known to manipulate magical forces in distinctly mechanical ways. Now all we need is for Makuta to make a giant robot called Mata-Nui from the souls of all the island's inhabitants The website: Well, we've got character bios and official set photos. The photos don't add much to what we've already seen, but the bios are interesting. As was pointed out earlier in the thread, it's nice that Kopaka's bio confirms that the term 'Toa' will be making a comeback, despite the sets being branded as 'Masters'. Some seem rather annoyed at Kopaka's and Onua's flaws of clumsiness and sleepiness respectively, but those are physical issues; their personalities are still true to the originals, so these changes don't bother me. The Masks: Oh boy, convention exclusives! Well, that's my gut reaction, though I'm hoping for a wider release of the clear Hau, similar to the trans-green Miru of 2001. The chrome gold masks I don't care for. What sort of MoC could I use them on? As for masks in general, I'm disappointed that side-clip connections are pretty much confirmed for all of them.

I hope not. The whole "Mata-Nui is a giant robot" thing, though outrageous, was well-planned; however, the Red Star being some revival site feels like a lazy way to "explain" things like Takanuva and Jaller's resurrections in the MoL movie. Really, the Red Star could have just been a jetpack, and it would have been great. It's such a pity the serials created so many loose ends when tying up older ones.

Remember the Red Star? I think the issue is that old, dead Matoran can't be teleported back once rebuilt.

Good Lord. That is still being attempted to be sold. Well, the price has gone down by two dollars.

On Ebay This Moment: "Makita" Terrida

Ebay sellers are hilarious. Oftentimes I find great deals buying parts lots, and in those cases I don't care how much a seller knows about his wares; however, there are many other sellers who, out of ignorance or some sad attempt at a scam, try to auction "complete figures" which they obviously know nothing about. Only once have I bought a complete figure on Ebay, and in that case the seller obviously knew what he was doing, even going so far as to include a Peeron parts list with the shipped figure.

Good God that last pic is sexy. It makes me regret not getting more black HF sets for their parts.

    THROWBOTS!

Oh, these wonderful things deserve remakes of their own! Though BIONICLE holds a place in my heart for its characters and story, I adore Roboriders & Throwbots for their wonderfully outlandish designs, and the alien beauty of their package art. Roboriders get extra credit for its incredibly absurd premise. (Robots live in the wheels of the giant robot motorcycles which they pilot, and on occasion launch their wheel-homes as projectiles!)

The backpacks on these first Toa do have potential to be awful-looking, but that doesn't mean the idea of combining gearing and CCBS is inherently flawed; CCBS joints have plenty of tension, so shoulders won't flop when moved. I've built a few custom torsos based on the 2015 Toa images, and the arms work fine when attached.

Out of curiosity, what do you see as the line between modding an existing set, and doing a basic revamp of it? For example, I am planning on heavily modding the armor arrangements and colors on the Toa, but I'll likely end up with a few minor revamps when I'm done, but the difference between the two will be quite subjective.

It's not quite the same; mechanical features are rarely if ever limited, but GITD is usually the icing on the cake for larger price-point sets, such as Tahu is assumed to be. An example of this would be the GITD Brain Slug used in Hero Factory's Dragon Bolt figure. My only concern about the Skull Spiders is that they might only come in one or two colors, which would be a letdown; I hope we get a decent variety.

It's a Galaxy Squad bug pod. Somehow I have four Tridax Launchers, and only two pods, so I had to find alternatives. It fits quite well, though it's a bit oblong, and has to be put in a certain way.

You are not presenting your opinions as fact; however, you do seem to esteem your own opinions quite highly, while being dismissive of those belonging to everyone else. Some bias is inevitable, but you look to have taken it to an extreme that makes these discussions exceedingly unpleasant. Perhaps you must learn to accept that, when voicing an opinion, you are opening it to criticism?

Do you mean to say that it holds no value for being an opinion? You don't exactly discuss why you disagree, all you say is that it is an opinion, and then brush his ideas away. What does that imply we might "fairly" do to your opinions, by your own reasoning?

Similar, but I was thinking of it being an ideological conflict as well as a physical one. I suppose the conflict with the Vahki was sort of like that, with many of their staffs having power to temporarily return a Matoran to a more robotic state, but that was never a central plot point for 2004.

I'll be quite pleased if we see a progression similar to BIONICLE 1, from a magical to technological setting. It would also be interesting if, instead of transitioning smoothly, with the magic being revealed as technology, there were actually some clash between literal magic, a parallel set of laws, and technology, the applied primary laws of the BIONICLE universe, similar to the conflict in Arcanum. Actually, that would be neat as a plot point. The MOCr being of "raw magic" would make it the ideal conduit for its wearer to use of parallel magical laws of the universe through... but at this point I'm starting to write a fanfic instead of speculating reasonably. That's me! Think up a bunch of premises at inappropriate times and then never do anything with them!

"Magic" is exactly what LEGO used in BIONICLE 1, under the name of Energized Protodermis; it did whatever the plot required of it, eventually gaining sentience and becoming the cause of Spherus Magna's Shattering. Introducing the vague concept of "Destiny" as the determinator for how beings are affected by EP was no better. They both seem like the get out clauses you dislike. Also, what laws of physics are you referring to when you say that magic, by definition, works outside of them; the laws of our universe, or the fictional universe in which magic is used? Because by the laws of our universe, the technology of BIONICLE is hands-down magical, and in another universe, magic or similar could be a part of its laws or a parallel set of laws, such as the Alchemy used in Fullmetal Alchemist. Lastly, I think technobabble-laden sci-fi, though quite willing to give "explanations" for its miraculous feats, leaves the writers less accountable for coherency, since they can cloak incoherent absurdities behind a veil of misused scientific terms, whereas an author writing about magic will be called out for inconsistencies far more quickly.

Pretty much this. Established rules, whether they be for magic or Warp Drives, are what make a universe coherent, not the terminology itself. Likewise, it doesn't matter whether or not you cloak an incoherent universe in technobabble, it's still a mess.

This thread inspired me to create awful things. A horribly generic Inika build, outfitted with every projectile weapon introduced in BIONICLE. Why pick a favorite?

I knew there was a reason I liked these Kanohi so much, despite their unusual designs. I felt that I had seen them before, but couldn't figure out from where until now. Thank you both for refreshing my memory, it's been over a decade since I saw the first BIONICLE movie. I think I might still have it somewhere; I need to dig it up and watch it again.

As someone who has been going through the trying process of rebuilding their old BIONICLE figures, I can also attest that the basic uniformity of CCBS is a very good thing. Though some variance is needed on sets superficially, having a basic array of highly versatile elements is far preferable to the disaster that was BIONICLE. Parts like Visorak bodies, Metru torsos, Mata limbs, etcetera were very pretty, and made each new wave of sets feel unique, but they were nigh-unusable for the average MOCist trying to do anything more than a color palette swap, and are often the bottlenecks on old set reassembly. Also, it lead to LEGO having issues finding sets to use all those highly-specialized parts in, resulting in the release of things like this. CCBS has helped to ensure that this doesn't happen again. Don't take this as some whole-hearted endorsement of CCBS; it does get dull to see the same basic skeleton again and again, but I think the sacrifice is worth the gain in versatility. With a few different bone lengths and armor pieces, I can easily fix whatever awful proportions I find in a set, and then expand on the revamp from there, all using parts from older sets. You couldn't get away with that for most BIONICLE waves, unless you already had a very substantial collection.

I suppose I give the Squid Launchers too much flak when I say this, but I'd love to see all the outtakes. Really, Squid Launchers are an acceptable target to me, no hard feelings intended when I bash on them constantly, I mean it half-jokingly.
