    [MOC] UCS X-Wing Red 5

Thanks for the comments! Like I said above, I can't make instructions (and honestly not my thing to get into diigtal designing). I could try and do a detailed companent breakdown with photos to show how it is constructed, or perhaps work with someone to produce proper ones? joebiwankenobi, it is completely littered in custom stickers, they took a lot of time but without them it would probably just look like a big white blob The only painted elements were the wheels on the lasers that I painted white from grey. cheers

    [MOC] UCS X-Wing Red 5

Thanks for the comments! Piece count is something like 3,500 I think, I don't pay much attention on pieces I am afraid. The stand is quite simple, a black sloped plinth which I kept as small as possible. The model was designed with attachment points that slot into the plinth, I will try and get a photo of it on the stand uploaded for you. Instructions...Well I have never used any lego digital design tools so I wouldn't be able to do it that way. Perhaps I could do a component breakdown though, am more than happy to share the design if the interest is there. It is actually not all that complicated internally apart from perhaps the wing mechanism.

    [MOC] UCS X-Wing Red 5

This is my Ultimate Collectors Series X-Wing Starfighter Red 5. It is 78cm x 54cm (or 99 studs x 68 studs) making it about 1/16 scale. It has functioning wings and an opening cockpit. All dimensions are based on the Fine Molds plans which seem to be accepted as accurate to the original movie props. I have had this on the go for over 2 years but finally completed it recently, each component has been through many iterations and refinements and I think I could have gone on forever but I decided to call time on it. I first built the model with standard lego parts for both wings and lasers and they held up fine but I think that they will bend/droop a little over time. As I wanted the model on permanent display I elected to rebuild incorporating some aluminium elements which I recently found on Bricklink. It uses 4 x 31 hole aluminium lift arms, 1 in each wing, plus 4 x 19 stud long aluminium axles in the lasers. This will esnsure it always stays looking nice and straight which to me was more important than purity for the finished model (and the components are identical to lego pieces, just aluminium which I feel is just about acceptable!). I painted the grey wheels on the lasers as there are no white ones available. There are plenty of custom made stickers including many in an attempt to make it look damaged and worn. The markings were based on the amazing eFX Inc. static model from a few years back. I hope you like it, all comments are very welcome. How do you spend your VIP Points?

I use my VIP points to help buy sets for my son, he is 5 and I put the points towards his pocket money so he can buy slightly bigger sets than he would otherwise be able to afford. Otherwise he would only ever be able to afford a minifig police motorbike each month, saving is not something a 5 year old understands too well! Also means he benefits from anything I buy.

So - who will admit to using the Kragle?

I agree with Heppeng, sometimes there are those annnoying peices that constantly fall off a model that have driven me to a rage and glue has been used...normal superglue works ok and is normally reversible if needed as I find it creates quite a brittle join.

    [MOC] - UCS X34 Landspeeder

Very, very nice! Must be quite heavy? I guess the windscreen was always going to prove difficult, I think your solution works as well as you could acheive with limited options though. I very much like the grills and engine greeblies...Great work!
  8. Hello all I am very new here so please let me know if there exists a thread or infomation on this topic already. How do you stay on top of new elements brought out by lego? Is there a resource somewhere that documents all new elements/colours and the kits they are in as and when they are issued? I often find I miss peices for months until I see one in a Moc/review or buy a model. Staying current on new elements is quite important to the hobby for me so it would be really useful to have somewhere you can check each month for example to keep on top of it. I presume that LDraw has an uploader or something, perhaps something related to that? Many thanks

    Any new years plans?

I did make a big decision for this year. To join this group and actively seek out some like minded folks. I have spent 10 years building by myself and not sharing Mocs or meeting anyone who has this hobby. This year I want to try and get to know some people, I have also joined a local Lug here in the UK. The only other thing I have decided to do is to finish some long term Mocs that have been sitting around half finished before I start anything else!

Are you the only lego fan in your family?

There are 3 people in my household, my 5 year old son loves lego and I end up spending much of my lego time building things with him, one of the reasons I hardly ever finish anything! My wife tolerates it but sometimes loses it if I leave things in a mess (or stands on a piece). She is very supportive of our son playing but I am not certain she fully understands why I am interested, plus why I need so much of it...

Do you have any other hobbies?

I have too many hobbies so none get as much time as they should...I collect build and race old Tamiya Radio Controlled cars, have been hooked on them since I got my first kit age 9. I also play guitar in a band. Lego probably gets most of my time but I do get into one or other thing heavily for a few months to the detriment of everything else. Sometimes I wish I only had one main interest, it would be a lot easier!

    Storage and Sorting LEGO

Like most here I have tried many different solutions and have finally come across what works for me after 10 or so years. I have 12 of these metal Ikea draw units; http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10251045/ I put all bricks, plates slopes etc. in those by colour. Depending on quantities they may have separate draws by type or for some colours that I don't have much of are all mixed in one draw (sometimes in bags by type). I find drawers much easier than boxes for access and these fit under a normal desk and are quite cheap. They aslo look tidy which my wife appreciates! Every other peice I put in partitioned plastic trays that fit into click lock plastic tubs (I think they are called "Really Useful Box"). These I have by my desk as are used the most, the other drawers are farther away depending on colours that I use most. This is an easily expandable solution for both bulk and specialist parts.
  13. I have 3 swoop bags (mentioned in an earlier post) for my 5 year old son. 1 very large and 2 smaller. They are not cheap but are fantastic, especially the large one. It has a lip of about 3 inches around the side and is so easy to get out and put away, by far the best solution I have used for young kids. Thing is, he always comes over to my organised draws because he can't be bothered to find a peice in his bag! That's a whole other problem!

    Hello from the UK

Hello all, my name is James and I am from Sussex in the UK. I have been a longtime reader of the site and general closet lego builder for many years but decided it was time to finally join, contribute and share some of my mocs. I am not a very prolific builder and tend to build big things that take ages and often don't get finished! I mostly build crossover Model Team/Technic models of planes, cars and spaceships. Here is my Brickshelf gallery, only one model so far I am afraid, more will be added over the coming weeks as and when I can get them photgraphed (and in some cases finished) http://www.brickshel...?m=crash-cramer I look forward to being part of the group. Thanks!
