MOC: McDonald's Restaurant in Modern "Forever Young" Look

Very nice work! I really like the more modern mcdonalds look instead of the traditional bright red and yellow. I agree with everyone else that the new masonry brick looks great on this. Are you thinking of adding a landscaped parking lot type area?

MOC: 7 wide mid engine sports car

Great suggestion prateek, I thought about doing that and its possible but I would be giving up some statiblity on the back bumper. I wanted to try using the new 1 x 1 round tile for the build and they give a more bulky look when two are next to each other. Proably would have to go back to the 1 x 1 round plates intstead if I were to go that route. Thanks TheLegoDr. You should definatly try buidling in 7 wide format its a little more challenging because of the odd number stud width but allows for a little more detail than the classic 4 wide format. Sorry no instructions. Some tips for buidling would be to keep the cars low as they are on the larger end of the minifig scale. Also a good way to learn how to build 7 wide is to take an official 6 stud vehicle and try to convert it to 7 studs or take one of the creator 8 stud vehicles and downsize it to 7 studs. The first 7 wide car I made was based off one of the 8 wide speed racers car sets that came out a few years back. I thought it looked to big for my town so I redesigned it to be 7 wide. Thanks SDH.

    Modular Madness: Ferrari Car Dealership

Wow! Thank you all for the kind comments. I changed the interior photo to the one with no minifigs so you can see there is one desk on the left side with some seating for sales to be made. Most of the floor is taken up by the car so there wasn't much space for desks.

MOC: 7 wide mid engine sports car

Thanks darkdragon. Thanks The Blue Brick. I made a few to sell so I will have them up in the near future. Thanks prateek. With only 5 pics allowed for the modular contest, I though this was a good way to show more pics of the cars. Thanks lightningtiger. I am glad you like the red one, if your going to have a Ferrari it has to be in red. Thanks Lego Guy Bri. Glad you like the cars. Thanks Legocrazy81. The F430 Spyder provided a lot of inspiration fot this car. I looked at a lot of pics of that car on the internet when doing the design.
  5. Great looking new car ER0L! Really like the fenders and the wheel rims. Look forward to seeing your future versions of the car.

    Mod: Town Hall XL

Great work on the mods to the new town hall. I like your wider version a lot better than the original 32 wide building. The proportions of the building look better balanced and more horizontal which is what I envision when I think of a town hall. The extra real estate on the interior is very nice and you used the space well. I think Lego did a nice job of getting all the features of a town hall in the interior but they seemed compressed. I think this will be a fun set to mod and I look forward to seeing all the different versions that people come up with. I see that you had a lot of extra parts leftover from the second set. Do you think it was worth it to buy a second one or would have it been better to get the parts off bricklink when they become more readily available?

    MOC: Gas Station

Thanks wooootles. Yes, I would take happily take my listed gas prices as prices seem to increase every week where I live. Thanks Legocrazy81. Thanks DutchTreat. The more I think about it, I will proably stick with the studded roofs as they match the offical modulars and every building in my city has studded roofs. I have seen tiled roofed buidldings and I do like the extra detailing that can be achieved with it but it does use up a lot more parts. I am a big tile fan and prefer a lot of tiling but a little studding is good too.

    MOC: Lego City Car Park

Very nice parking garage! The power functions lift is very cool and I like the larger size of yours. The new official version seems small to me. I like the lights above the entrance and the use of the baseplates for the upper level floors was a good way to save a lot of plates and tiles. If the upper levels are filled with cars do the baseplates handle the weight well or do they flex some?

MOC: 1974 Dodge Monaco Sedan (Police Package)

Great job on the new Bluesmobile ER0L! Excellent work in getting the sedan shape of the car. I like the grill in the front and the studs running down the center of the hood and back. It gives a little texture to the car. Keep up the good work.

    MOC: Gas Station

Thank you Bricktown, brickmack, Mr. Elijah Timms, Brickenhead-town-dweller, and TheLegoDr for the kind comments! Thanks legomaniac83 for the compliments and the suggestions. Roof tiling sounds interesting, I don't know if the 8 x 16 tile would fit right but something to think about for future builds.

    My city 2012 version

Great looking city layout. I wish I had all that space to fit all those modulars. I like all the modularized offical sets and the custom buildings and the overall size of it. There is a lot of Lego there. Look forward to seeing how it grows and changes.

    MOC: Gas Station

Thanks RunnersDad. Thanks solta. Thanks zenn. Glad you like the custom stickers. Thanks Oran. Very nice tanker truck. I like the chrome with the octan logo. I have seen the chrome tanker parts in bricklinks catalog and they are pretty rare and hard to get. Too bad Lego did not keep those parts in production.

    MOC: Gas Station

Wow! Thank you all for the kind comments and positive feedback. I am glad you all like my gas station design. Thanks. One of my local gas station has their pumps on a diaganol so thats where I got the idea from. I wanted to keep the pumps on a 32 by 32 baseplate and going diaganol was a way to maximize space for the cars to be abe to fit and drive through. Thanks. I tried to keep it from being too big so it would fit in well with the modular buildings but I'm thinking of building one on a 48x48 baseplate someday. Thanks. Yes the price is in gallons not liters but I live in California and with rising gas prices the price is already not accurate for my area.

    MOCs: ER0L's Cars

Cool new rides EROL. Really like the classic Cadillac with the white wall tires and the chrome rims. Haven't commented on your corvette yet so I will say it's my favorite of all your designs. Can tell you put a lot of time into that one. Going to build any of your cars in other colors? Keep up the good work!

    California Lego City

I've been asked a few times to share my layout and I finally got around to taking some pics of my Lego city. I started building my city when the Cafe Corner set came out. It was more of a street back then just the Cafe Corner and Market Street sitting on my shelf with a couple of cars in front of it. From then as more sets have come out I've expanded the city to take up a whole table. My layout currently consists of an oval of train track with the town part inside of it. The streets are layed out in an H format with two main roads and one main cross street. All the buildings are modular style and all the vehicles are 6 studs or wider. No classic open backed buildings or 4 studs car in my city. The back consists of a row of modular buildings grand emporium, green grocer, market street and fire brigade. There is a side road that runs in front of the grand emporium. Behind the row of modulars are 2 of the wind turbines from 7747 Wind Turbine and Transport. They have been made taller and modified to fit M-motors in the turbine body. A Power Functions wire run down the towers where each wire connects to an I.R. Reciever. The speed of the turbine can be controlled with the power function train controller. It looks the most realistic at the slowest setting but at high speeds it makes a decent fan. Across from the grand emporium is my modular city hall. This is the city hall building from Town Plan. I've seen a couple version where they modularized the buidling but kept the 32 stud width so it could fit in a row of modulars. The city hall in my real life city is free standing, so I expanded mine and made it wider, the building is built on 3 16 stud wide baseplates. In front of the city hall is a courtyard area with benches and the fountain from town plan. On the main cross street is another row of modulars, Cafe corner and the Pet shop. This is the other side of the city hall building. There is a parking lot in front of it with spaces for 4 cars. The blue car in the parking lot is a 6 stud version of the blue car from town plan. Across from city hall is the Octan gas station. Behind the gas station is a small park area. Currently a catered lunch is going on for all public works employees. Wouldn't want them to work too hard. Next to the park is the train station. Its a modular version of 7997. Currently have the passenger train on the layout. My emerald night looks better but the passenger train goes way faster and is more enjoyable to run. This is the front of the train station. There is parking next to it for 2 cars. Across from the train station and next to the Cafe Corner is the movie theatre from Town Plan it's been modularized too. Most of my minifigs are here waiting to get into the next showing. This is my open space area. Waiting for the next expansion. Here's almost the whole layout minus the open space. Thanks for looking.

    MOC: Bricklyn Borough Courthouse

Wow! Great looking building. Thank you for sharing. I really like the wider width for the building as I always think of more state type buildings being wide like that and it allows for a lot more interior space. I though Lego was going to do a 48 wide for the town hall modular to give it a grander feel but they went for more height than width. The little dome on the top is my favorite exterior feature. Did the technique you use for that similiar to how the official taj mahal domes were done? How stable is the dome? The interior just adds to the set and I like how there is more space in all the rooms. At the smaller 32 by 32 it sometime seems like everything is being jammed in. Keep up the great work.

    California Lego City

Thanks Blue Brick. Haven't made any progress on the new area. Waiting for the new town hall set to come out before I made additons. Thanks Macoco. The blue tram in not fucntional yet. I have bought some power functions stuff but haven't gotten around to making the conversion. I am thinking of placing the Town Hall where the old green town hall used to be. I would like to mod the new one to convert it into a 48 wide building so I will proably had to buy 2 so I am going to have to save up some money. I don't know what I will do with the old one, I have thought of converting it into a museum but I will have to incorporate the new building first before I decide where the old one will go and what it will be. Thanks. Sorry you missed out on the Town Plan it is a great set. Hopefully Lego will make more like that in the future. Thanks Ferdik. I agree the pet shop and cafe corner sets work will together. Thanks laka. I am glad you like the landscaping I think it makes city layouts look more realistic. Yes I will proably expand the cross street out and push the train loop out to the edges of the layout to get more space. The gas station and train station will have to be rearragned some but I have not figured that out yet.

    California Lego City

I finally took some interior shots of the cinema and the other buildings as I was taking pictures of my latest MOC. The cinema interior could proably use some updating but I only used extra parts from the second town plan to do the interior so it was somewhat limited. The theatre area is to the left of the entrance. There is a projector room in the back center and the right part of the building there is a snack and sitting area. Here is the interior of the train station. Its just a snack shop area on one side and ticket and seating areas on the other side. Here is the interior of the city hall. One wing is a hall area for city meetings and the other wing is the mayor's office which is pretty spartan just a desk and chair. In the middle is the entrace area and where the clerk works.

    MOC - Car Dealerhsip

Very nice job on the car dealership. I like the landscaping in the front lot and the custom made stickers especially the ford oval stickers. Have you thought about tiling the front lot where the cars are parked to make it a smooth parking lot area?

    Grand Emporium vs Pet Shop

I would go with the grand emporium first especially if your planning on displaying your building in a street layout. Seeing from your post that you already have the green grocer and fire brigade, having a full sized corner building would fit in well with the 2 other modulars. I agree with everyone else that the grand emporium can be a little repetitive in the build but I think it's worth it in how it looks when finished. The pet shop is a nice set too but with two smaller building I see it ss more of a complimentary than a full sized corner building which can be more of a centerpiece set if you have a layout. The pet shop will proably be around longer as it was released just last year so you will have plenty of time to pick it up in the future.

New modular building? 10224 Town Hall

Thanks for sharing the new pics of this years modular building, made my day. With its larger size this years building definately has the wow factor back. Even though the petshop was nice it didn't have that for me when I first saw those preview pics last June. Already thinking about mods for the buidling. A 48 wide free standing version would look great in my town. Can't wait for the set to come out.

    California Lego City

I will try to get an interior picture of the cinema in the next week or two. Thanks Doink. Tram and rail are definately very european ways of transport but we do have light rail in some of the major cities in California like San Jose and Los Angeles which are similiar in looks to the Lego tram. The Getty Art Museum in Los Angeles is built on a hill and you actually take a tram from the parking lot to reach it. Trams are proably not the first thing you think of when you think of California but it's a state that loves the idea of public transport, the state is currently trying to start a high speed rail line even though it has no money and not many people will ride it. The wind turbines are pretty stable. When I run them I usually go at the lowest speed on the power functions speed regulator but if I crank it to the top speed the turbines will cause the tower to shake some but they have never fallen over or collapsed from that. Thanks Brickmamba. Its been almost 5 years since I started with the first modular building. I got the cafe corner the week that it came out in the spring of 2007. From there its expanded from just a street scene with one building on my shelf to what you see today.

    California Lego City

Thanks LEGO City glad to be able to provide some inspiration. Thanks Dakar. The tables I use are from Ikea they are the melltorp series which are basic white kitchen tables. I have two that measure 29.5 inches by 59.5 inches and one that is 29.5 inches by 29.5 inches . I overlay a piece of 4 x 8 maple plywood on the tables to create a smooth stable area for the city to sit on. From another piece of plywood I cut pieces to create a little more length and width. The layout currently measures 95 inches long by 54 inches wide. Tables and plywood are pretty stable and the combination gives a good base for the modulars to rest on and minimizes seams you would get with just putting tables together. I've accidently bumped the tables a few times and knocked over a few minifigs and a couple of trees but no major damage. My 2 year old nephew has tried to shake the tables a few times and only major damage is the minifigs that are on tiled areas fall over. Hope this helps with your town setup. Thanks clcwong. Glad you like town hall, it's one of my favorite buildings. Of course with the rumored new modular town hall I might be converting it into something else in the near future. Tram is not powered yet but its something I've been planning on doing. I bought some power function parts to do a conversion but I just haven't got around to it. Proably won't be adding any interior MOCs in the buildings in the near future. Some of the buildings I put some interiors in like the town hall and the movie theatre but proably will be focusing more on expansion.
