I'm not a coder but I'm very familiar with the Unreal Engine 4's visual scripting system which I used to create a tool that will help you to convert Rebrickable part lists to LDD user palettes, This is how it looks right now: Features: One-click converting of Rebrickable CSV files to LDD user palettes Features coming soon: Converting decorations (prints) correctly Converting rarely used colors correctly to colors available in LDD Merging mold variations to bricks available in LDD Support for old colors Limitations/Disadvantages: Since it's running on a video game engine, it's quite heavy in terms of file size (102 MB) and requires a modern PC All bricks are placed at 0 0 0 so if you try to open the palette file, LDD will remove all but one brick. Every part of a multi-part brick like power function components will have everything colored in the main color. DOWNLOAD Decide yourself if the relatively large file size is worth the time you may save in comparison to LDD manager's palette process (which is still a great tool!). Right now it only uses Rebrickable IDs for the LDD IDs but that is going to change when I get through each file and check it for mold variations and decorations. The colors IDs have been translated manually which is why I need feedback regarding the colors. Sometimes It wasn't easy to decide which color in LDD is which color on Rebrickable. Is it worth continuing? Let me know what you think!

This is my version of the Roger E Broggie from Walt Disney World: The content of the tender as well as the cab are highly improvised. Also this thing may not be able to take turns due to the magnet holder of the loco being blocked by some details. According to Rebrickable there are parts in this MOC that don't exist in this color but according to LDD's limited mode they do exist. Well LDD is not reliable it seems. They sometimes do lack smoothing in some areas but they sped up my workflow enormously. That means I can release new sets and bricks more often. Currently there are 311 bricks. I will continue to work on this. The next big feature will be interaction with the bricks (like doors and windows) in display mode. This should take a while to create.

As I told you before, you need to recreate each brick as they need to be low poly and they need a custom made icon in a certain style. Importing 3d models and 2d textures is not as easy as importing text files at runtime. Therefore it won't happen. I'm sorry. Good job recreating the train with the few available parts! Could you center it on the world origin, make it playable by adding steps and upload it to the mods section on indiedb.com, please? http://www.indiedb.com/games/the-bricksperience/mods It would help making the game more popular. Currently I'm not working on the game but if more people take note, I'll probably go back importing parts all day.

Thanks a lot for stress-testing it! 4000 or 5000 part models may be possible but there are two things to keep in mind: a 500 part set takes already 30-60 minutes to complete and when you add steps to the model, all the bricks will have physics which could result in horrible framerates. That's why I wouldn't go over 500 - 600 part models.

I created a little game called "The Bricksperience". In this casual game you can build sets virtually from the point of view of a minifig, earn Bricksperience points and spend them on new features. It uses LDR files to arrange the bricks and calculate the steps. Later on the game will have a challenge and you build against the time to earn different amounts of money which you need to unlock the sets and advance in the LEGO timeline. Since it's a game, low poly models with simple textures are required to keep the performance steady. Therefore I have to recreate each brick individually. That means you can only use the bricks that are available in the game in custom models. To see which bricks are available there are two options in the options menu to export an LDD palette as well as an LDR file (more reliable) with all the parts. Currently there are only four sets from 1980 - 1982 and 60 parts but there will be way more. I spent the most of the time creating the foundation for this game and now it's time to fill it with content. DOWNLOAD Known issues: - The menus are ugly - Some menu buttons have no sound effects - Only windowed mode - Requires good hardware Please give it a try and let me know what you think! Thank you! Here's my newest creation - a mini railroad diorama! Since this is a diorama of a house and since there is a train in the forum banner, I hope this is the right place (and not train tech). A render of the concept: The finished scene: Without the train: The train in detail: The carriages can hold up to three minifigs each if the hair piece doesn't need too much space. The train is pretty unstable but it is not meant to be played with. The whole train is connected to the scene at two spots. I hope you like it!

Yes, Hobby Train V2 please! I wouldn't even mind if they brought the original Hobby Train back instead of a new train as I couldn't get it when it was available. If it's going to be a new train then I hope it'll be something along the lines of the Aerotrain, Trans Europ Express or Koploper. Alternatively it'd be nice if they pick something nice from a more Eastern country like Russia, China, India, Australia or Japan.

I recently discovered this video: At 1:25 he shows the trays and says they're about $1.50 each. I really want to know where he got them. But even if I could get them, I'm not sure what is the right system for me. Fast access is important to me as is movability of the containers. I'd love to get IKEA's Trofast system or the Rotho Systemix system but since I have a hundred different categories, I'd need a hundred different containers == ~750€. Right now I have around a hundred ziplock bags full of parts lying in a display cabinet.

Hello! I've been spending my recent time with creating a PC game where the player creates houses, furniture and more with building bricks (there's more to it, but that's the main concept). Once this project is finished I'd like to sell it. Since this is obviously inspired by my favorite toy (you may guess which one it is), I don't want to get in trouble with the LEGO company. I sent an email to LEGO where I asked which part of LEGO is licensed and must be changed to avoid identification with LEGO. The answer was: get in contact with a lawyer. Before I do that, I'd like to ask here whether anyone knows what a LEGO clone must not contain. Maybe someone of you is actually a lawyer. Some information about my idea of the bricks for my game: The aspect ration is 1:1 instead of 8mm:9,6mm Due to the other aspect ratio, it's not possible to recreate LEGO models/designs (at least not when they use SNOT elements) The studs are diamond shaped On the bottom there is no complex system, only a stud-shaped hole Figures are not planned for this game - if there will be some anyway, their anatomy will be more human than minifigures Basic shapes can't be avoided but decoration elements will obviously have a different shape Trivia: There is a game called Blockland, which used to be an official LEGO game, if I'm informed right. The reason I ask this now is I don't want to edit hundreds of models later on and I hoped there might be a clear answer to this question before I start modeling. @Paul B: How would you design some fictional building blocks? Without the studs it'd be kind of boring, even though there are no limitations of where you can build in the game (you don't need the studs and you can intersect pieces).

After my recent purchase of the Pet Shop, I finally had all the windows and doors to create a little Western Steam Train highly inspired by the Constitution Train Chase. First I created this concept: Then came the real deal made out of about 900 parts: It doesn't have too much details but I'm pretty satisfied with the result. I hope you like it too!

Thank you for your feedback! Yep! If only I had the parts I would add rods but no piston action since I didn't want it to be any wider. That's right. The main problem would be the windows and either a train baseplate or small turntables of which I don't have enough. :(

After my WDW Roger E Broggie which is impossible to build, I decided to create another steam locomotive from scratch - one that is powered and you can actually build: Unlike other MOCs with big wheels, this one does not use a technic motor to bring it into motion. A regular PF train motor is used here (built using bricks). As can be seen, the reciever is inside the cab and battery box (also built using bricks) is hidden beneath a lid in the tender. I didn't think the speed was such a big problem. Thanks for clearing that up. Didn't tenders have buffers back then? I'm not a railroad expert. At least you can easily remove them.

As I was building a model in LDD lately (mainly for rebrickable.com) I found out the colors available in the limited mode do not represent the colors available in sets (I hoped so). Therefore I wonder if it might be a good idea to create multiple LDD palettes which include one piece of every available color to not make mistakes when building. I wrote "multiple LDD palettes" because there should be one for frequent used colors/pieces and if the part is not available you can switch to another one with rarely used colors/pieces. Or does such a palette even exist already?

Oh, I didn't notice that feature of LDD Manager. I only used it to create palettes. Then it's not worth it as you pointed out.

The flex tracks are vertically flexible too, they could be used for this.

Thanks for the comments! Haha, I knew someone would point that detail out. Good thing I decided to keep it (that's the detail that blocks the magnet). You're right. I thought they were available. Now that I think of it, maybe I'll make a different colored version for real-life use.

Hello! Today (14th of February) is my 25th birthday and I'd like to show you my first MOC: It's a European 4-wheeled truck engine: I know the colors could be better here and there but I only own three sets right now: 7939, 79111 and 5767. I wish I had more wheels so I could create a trailer for it. Hopefully I didn't waste your time.
