I'm completely lost. I know that these were split (supposedly) into two parts with the march update, but I cannot for the life of me locate either. Can anyone help?

2x2 turntable?
ShrikeArghast replied to ShrikeArghast's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This is really odd. It's not there in mine. I wonder if my LDD is somehow bugged? -
I went back at it this morning... added some doodads I have overlooked, raised the entire hull by one plate level to assure the tracks would actually work, introduced a more uniform wheel system, added the outside tracks (not going to bother with the inside ones for the purposes of LDD), redid the antennae, and completely redesigned the back portion, which had been bothering me.

Okay, after roughly 10 hours of work, here is my best effort. Note that I intentionally enlarged the turret slightly from the one in the photo in order to incorporate a functioning hatch, since Welkin spends so much time up there in the game/anime. Also, some of the colors (particularly the fins for the ragnite drive) are wrong due to the limitations of LDD - those will be trans blue when the project is built. And, of course, the tank is lacking treads. I'm *pretty* happy with what I produced here, especially since I was basically flying blind on the turret and the rear portions. And some prototype shots: I plan to use a few stickers (license plate, white strip on the sides of the turret), but hope to keep it to a minimum. One nice thing about this model as compared to the original is that it has playability features - the cockpit is modeled and accessible via a series of hatches, and the turret is designed to be easily slid from its socket to further open the tank's interior. I'm kind of unsatisfied with the radio antennae, so if anyone has any suggestions to more closely match the original, I am very open to advice.

Well, I actually embarked on building my own (albeit very similar to this one, though I had to guestimate the back portion, and I'm also making an effort to upgrade where I can [such as - I hope - adding some kind of interior space]). However, I have a request - can anyone tell me what the part he used to make the treads in that picture is? It appears to be a single stud-wide piece used to make two loops per side. Is this an actual lego part, and, if so, what number is it? Nevermind - I figured it out. Better question : How do I wrap tank treads around a wheel using LDD?

Am I the only one who was like /snore? I mean, yes, it's nice to have another Star Wars feature, but I really feel like this is the untold story that should probably have stayed untold.

Video: Resistance Troop Transporter Reivew (Princess Leia)
ShrikeArghast replied to Zusammengebaut's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just finished building mine tonight. This is, without a doubt, the best build of the first two waves (I love my First Order Transporter, too, but it's a dull assembly by comparison) - it's creative, hugely functional, and produces a model that is almost perfectly in line proportionally (if, of course, a little too small) with the original. The over-reliance on stickers IS a massive annoyance, and placing the cockpit ones in particular is a sweat-dripping nightmare. However, the end result is very, very sturdy, easy on the eyes, and screams modified B-wing (yes, I know that's what it is, but it's lovely that you can stare at the Lego model and actually see the original vehicle). I'm frankly considering buying a second one - it's just THAT good.- 46 replies

I purchased the First Order Transporter a few weeks ago, but am still waiting on a few Bricklink orders, as I plan to expand it by 12 studs.

Call me an old timer, but this strikes me as a set that could have really benefited from a few good baseplates.

[LDD MOC] "Redemption" Nebulon-B escort frigate
ShrikeArghast replied to L-DI-EGO's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I did the whole thing last night. The answer is about $150 USD plus shipping and handling (which will probably be on the order of ~$50). So, not cheap, but not exorbitant. I, too, was disappointed that he utilized so many parts that simply didn't exist -- I counted about 45ish as I went down the list. Most of them are minor issues (swapping out one shade of grey for another), though a few are somewhat glaring and would require dying/custom work or completely altering the color scheme of parts of the ship. In particular, the stern section is clad in (I believe) 16 grey windshields of the type that Lego used to use on old (circa 2000) small biplanes/aircraft, the closest of which color is either silver or black (and neither is available in large quantities or, for that matter, cheap). I do still want to build the thing, but it's likely going to have to wait until next Christmas. I will say again: I'm surprised that the re-posted project (which has something like a year left) isn't garnering more votes. The Republic NEVER gets big ships, yet we've seen a parade of Star Destroyers over the years. Plus, it's not like the Empire didn't utilize Nebulon Bs. This ship looks very close to the original, it has a fairly significant amount of playability (which it arguably the most essential element in a minifig-friendly set such as this), and, frankly, if you told me it was a design straight from Lego, I wouldn't be surprised. This is the Lego Creations project that the Star Wars community here should be lining up behind. -

I don't understand why this set isn't drawing more votes. It's such a hugely iconic ship that's tied to two movies. Plus, the rebels almost never get capital ships released. -

Lego must be pretty desperate for Episode VIII to come along and provide them with a few more prototypes to model. Outside the First Order Star Destroyer, and perhaps some kind of Starkiller Base set, there isn't a lot left for them to do. Certainly, this simple transport is far less imposing than the First Order one.- 46 replies

I apologizing for necroing this topic, but I had a question directly regarding it and felt like it wouldn't be wise to post a new thread about it if one already existed. The question is: has anyone ever built this from some place like Bricklink using the LDD (which he made available)? What did it (ballpark) cost you? -

I have the money to get one Star Wars Lego set for the foreseeable future: which should I get? The Star Destroyer or the First Order Transport? I see significant advantages and disadvantages to both. -
For some reason, the first one reminds me of running around in Knights of the Old Republic.

They were attempting to pay homage to this: ... much in the way that many of the early ship designs (the Millenium Falcon; the Y-wing) were heavily influenced by WWII aircraft. And, to that end, I think the designers at the Lucasarts were immensely successful. I, frankly, love the design because it is so utilitarian. When we look at the military forces in our own world, there is enormous diversity in the craft utilized, but, at the end of the day, one truism lords over all: the more simple something is, the easier it is to maintain. When it comes to bad guys in Star Wars, flat lines are the norm (and have been embraced by the Empire [and First Order] from the get-go), whether you're looking at a Lambda-class shuttle or a Star Destroyer. In this sense, the First Order Transport actually fits in with the 'look' of its accompanying faction quite well. As for paint jobs... well... do you really want everything to be black? I kind of like grey Star Destroyers and AT-ATs and such, myself.

REVIEW: 75104 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle
ShrikeArghast replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Good review... my feeling on the set itself is 'meh.' I understand Lego didn't have a clear understanding of the original ship (though how far this excuse actually has merit is debatable. Disney is licensing this product -- why aren't they and Lego talking about such proprietary 'secrets' such as ship color and whether or not wings fold?), but the lack of accurate functionality and improper coloring mar it for me. What's more, Kylo Ren's incorrect 'cross' shaped saber blade is jarring. It would have been easy for Lego to develop a new t-shaped emitter (in the same way they did for Dooku's form II saber), but they chose the lazy way out. I'm simply not sold on this product. -
This is definitely closer to the scale of the original... though personally I prefer the beefier version Lego cooked up simply because it's more impressive. Yes, yes -- I'm American; I'm enamored of all things large and in charge.

Vodnik, any way you could part out what you used on this mod? I want to do the exact same thing to mine, but I don't have access to my Lego (I'm in Washington State; my collection is in Maine, and will remain so for some time), so I'd love to know precisely what is required to do the job so I could just order pieces.
-
This is just a small-scale mod, and could probably be considered a sidegrade, since I've exchanged functionality for aesthetics. Having said that, I *do* think the gull wing configuration and single prop are a bit more eye-catching than the original, and I believe the float design is more appealing, if a bit complex. Also, just in case you deem the design a bit too outlandish, there is real-world precedent.

Honestly, I think it looks great. Were I to build it, though, I'd probably do a slightly more traditional color scheme. Is it a little narrow? Sure... but, then again, as I said earlier, it looks sturdy -- like something you could actually move and play with without breaking.- 42 replies
