I really like your approach to a new CC design. It's an elegant mix of classic features and new ideas. For the colors, however, I agree with what's been said before. To be honest, I find it quite difficult to come up with a made over color scheme for the Bluecoats, based on (dark) blue, that doesn't become too dark, or look too much like the 2009 Redcoats'... Anyway, good job and keep it up! Regards

Fantastic! You two have done an impressive job, I don't know what to mention first... Apart from all the beautiful detailing, the ever-so-clever parts usage, the marvelous color combinations I think most of all I love the 'interaction' between the two sets: both really are stand-alone sets, but combined they are just more than the sum of their parts! I believe this entry will play yet another role in the current ambassador project. Châpeau!

Wow. Great idea, an even better realization, and a lovely overall scene. Seems, someone really wants Lego to bring back some underwater action I think the water could be a bit difficult to translate into an official set, for reasons of structural strength (?) and access/playability. Great entry! -

Looking good, I like it a lot better without the arches. And the handrails work better in black What do you think of this? I gave it a quick shot, just a design idea, more yellow and less ornamentation at the stern. Somehow a little closer to 6274. Regards Boat3b.lxf -

Hi there, I really like your ship, it catches the spirit of the CC and the early Pirates sets well. I would say finally a worthy warship for the Bluecoats. However, I'm not yet convinced by the stern, especially these yellow arch elements seem out of place from my point of view. The original CC didn't feature arch pieces (as far as I remember), which of course is no real argument against them, but more importantly, they don't match your use of slope pieces at the bow of the ship. And I think for a harmonious design repetition matters. Also, be careful with the telescopes you're using, they don't exist in yellow. How about incorporating this flower as a design element? BSB featured them, so it would be 'authentic'. And I would use yellow (or black) instead of white for those handrail pieces at the ship's waist, for the door frames, and so on. I would only have that gun deck stripe in white. But maybe I'm too much of a purist. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to seeing your ship in real bricks, good luck for the final stage! Oh, and I prefer your 'blue' solution, looks more harmonious and smoother to me. Brick on! Regards -
L'Impérial - First Rate Ship of the Line

Thank you Admiral. But don't be fooled, everything is merely a result of trail and error. And I produce a lot of rubbish, I just hide it... Here's how the lanterns are made. The design idea is from DPW's 'HMS Persephone'. Getting these window pieces in place in LDD requires some fiddling around, but in real bricks it'll be much easier, thanks to the opposable thumb... They aren't attached to anything, just squeezed in between those two yellow disc pieces. Regards -
L'Impérial - First Rate Ship of the Line

Time for an update Since there's a hull from hell waiting for me to get even more frustrated over it, I decided instead to do something I've wanted to do for a long time: Update Impérial's masts and sails. Among other things this includes SNOTed fighting tops and more elaborate whatstheterm 'mast linkings'. Additionally, the yards now feature stunsail booms, and will require real life thread to be held in place. For the spanker I decided to go 'soft footed', à la 'Commerce de Marseille'. Oh, and I had to get rid of some of the Lego rigging, the file simply became too heavy for my computer to handle... Credits for this update go to Dread Pirate Wesley and Imperial Shipyards. On a related note. Regarding a tutorial, right now I'm fiddling around on another ship, that's supposed to become a little bit of a 'how-to' regarding brick built hulls using lots of curved slopes. However, progress is frustratingly slow, because as it turns out I am not happy with my solution on Impérial as it is now, and therefore have altered the design quite some times now... Seems, there are already some potential supporters for a Cuusoo project. Seriously, I understand if you don't want to go through all the trouble. But I think he is iconic enough to meet a large fan base. And in the end, you never know. Another idea is to ask at a local toy store, maybe they could be willing to finance one for a public display. Haha, funny built. I like your 'monkey-driven design' a lot. Great play set for kids. And on top of that, with only some modifications this would make for a pretty 'real' governor's mansion. Looking forward for the gardens, keep up the good work! Regards

Beautiful ship, and indeed a very lovely and smoth waterline hull you created. I can only encourage you not to give up on her, for although Lego tends to be a rather lonely hobby, it seems you would make a lot of people here - including me - happy by finishing her. Good luck and brick on!

Excellent! In my eyes the most promising hull technique. Especially since you made it modular, and therefore adaptable to a wide range of ship types. Great work! My prefered part so far is the lower stern, gives me the wanting to try myself at a full hull, too. Can't wait to see her finished. Hi there, it's a bit tricky and you'll have to 'cheat' a little, but it's possible. Here's my approach. First you place a regular 1x1 round plate on the one stud, that the SNOT structure is supposed to be based on, place that grey piece on it, and use the hinge tool (in my case -130°). Then place the first row of curved slopes, a connecting plate, remove the grey piece (and the round plate), and mark the following pieces. Make them slide down along that bar, just to place the curved slopes closest to the prefab hull. Last step is to place the rest of the SNOT structure, and clean up. If you feel it necessary, use a bar to connect the structure to the prefab hull. Hope this helps. Regards

I guess I should have asked sooner The new stern looks majestic and very fearsome, I love it! Ten midsections make her very long, but your way of widening the hull seems to make up for that. Very promising!

I'd love to see a new Bluecoat fraction, but most of all wider hull elements. After all, 'City' themed vehicels got blessed with an increase of width from four to six studs already years ago... More studs for ships!
