[LDD Contest] Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine'
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in LEGO Town
Durchgeknallt, ja ja! That's what I was going for, a ridiculous contrast of 'classic' setting and 'modern'/eccentric behavior. Thanks for the compliment ! Great party, indeed, thank you. Pitty I didn't manage to add minifigs... Thanks for the praise. Yeah, luck is rarely what you need, but mobilization of voters .- 8 replies

Nice little vignette, different from the usual 'Arhh, me burry that booty in the sand' behavior of most pirates. I like your depiction of different layers of ground on this small scale. The owl, however, looks suspicious, probably plotting to give away the position of the treasure for a... cookie? Better take care ! Regards

I had a look at the lxf-file, and I must say I find your chateau absolutely beautiful, especially the inside decoration, and of course your sense for colors - splendid work! Concerning techniques, your double walls fascinate me most of all, very well done! Best regards

[LDD Contest] Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine'
Kolonialbeamter replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you. Concerning your question, well, if you mean rooms with furniture... no (check the westwing... almost empty, accept for construction material and a drunken guy's shooting range). There's some furniture... but that's been thrown into the pool... Which, by the way is very detailed, you can find a lot of interesting stuff in and around it, the aquarium, or other (secret) places... I can only encourage you to have a look at the LXF-file. Best regards- 8 replies

[Contest] LDD/LDraw Contest 2014 Entry Topic: Free-Build
Kolonialbeamter replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This is my entry for the Digital Design Contest 'Build your dream home'. Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine' is a model I constructed over the last two years, it's loosely based on famous french chateaus 'Fontainebleau' and 'Vaux-le-Vicomte'. If I were rich and eccentric, that would be my way to live... maybe... probably not... but it's still fun to imagine. Read here for more info and story. Pictures (click for higher resolution, or visit mybrickshelf): Front view, showing the main entrance. Back view, showing the large terrace and the entrance to the garden. Detailed shot of the pool/aquarium/party area. Detailed shot of the main entrance, including 'APPC' ('Armoured Party Personnel Carrier') (tank tracks 'borrowed' from Sunder's 'Heavy Tank Centurion III'). View inside the dome. Although not all bricks are connected according to LDD logic, I'm sure everything is physically buildable. Here's the LXF-file for download. Be aware that the model is made of almost 40 thousand pieces, you might want to adjust your LDD display quality settings. If you can, please check out the LXF-file, there are secrets and gimmicks waiting to be discovered! Thank you for watching! Regards -
That is so lovely and peaceful, if it wasn't for the cannon, it could well work as a spa for every pirate-weary soldier. Great first pirate MOC, welcome here, and keep it up! Regards

Battle of Port Royal (Moc+all imperial sets+Battle)
Kolonialbeamter replied to Matthias's topic in Pirate MOCs
... I think I've just seen a monkey raping a pig... Back on topic... Holy Moly! What an installation, so much awesomeness in one diorama... I'm drooling! Great combination of classic sets and MOCs, I especially like the towngate and the little scenes on the market. I remember building similar scenes when I was younger, makes me recreate these memories... Top! Thanks for sharing! PS. I found your guy, he's reporting from that little tavern-like building's tower near the brigde, 7th picture. Neat! Now I get to decide... guess... Bluecoats win... 'cause parties are of around equal strength, but the Bluecoats have a fortified position. You don't attack in such conditions... even Redcoats should know this... anyway, just open the gate, and let the 'harrased' pig run out in shock, Redcoats will flee immediately... that's for sure. Then finish off the remaining armada 'soldiers'. Great build! Regards- 18 replies

Spectacular film, he's quite a talented brickfilm maker. Thanks for sharing!

Neat little ship, I like it so far. But I partially agree with Kurigan, the small prefabs are at least treacherous, ships based on them become too tall easily, take care (which I'm sure you will)! Anyway, good luck and keep it up! Oh, and I'm glad you started building in the Pirates' forum again. Regards

Captain Redbeard Blindeye - Best Bioncle MOC ever! Yes, Bionicle
Kolonialbeamter replied to Legonardo's topic in Pirate MOCs
Best... actionfigure... ever... !!! Great usage of parts, there's nothing about it I don't like. Impressive find. -
Wow, great progress and change! First off, concerning your removal of the (lower) prefabs, you have chosen... wisely. I agree that the ship looks much better like this, and in combination with the renewed color scheme it makes for more realism. On the other hand it's a bit of a pity, 'cause I really liked your use of brown... Can't say much more, the lines are looking good, I'm looking forward to see more. One last thing for now, maybe... You might want to prepare yourself for the urge to widen your ship, going for a completely custom hull... which might come, when you build the aft section, for she might become too 'thin'... Anyway, great ship so far, keep it up! Regards
-
Morally compromised, maybe, but some things are just worth it... for the greater good! OK, you've convinced me, I shall add the sacrificing of lattices into my repertoire! Or even better: @TLC, I want these latticed windows as an official part! Again, great work, and the best of success with even more of the kind! Regards
-
Tremendously beautiful and lively scene ... except of course for the presumed dead pirate... @ Captain Braunsfeld: I think the parrot definitely is involved in whatever happened to the poor soul, just look at his 'innocent' glance. And of course it's 'coincidence' that he turns his back... He's full of guilt.

I love it! Classic feeling, funny scenes, a pitty it was so short lived. I agree, could have been an official Pirates' poster from the early 90's, or part of an Idea Book diorama. Thank you for sharing this classic beauty! Regards

Combining two Caribbean Clippers (WIP)
Kolonialbeamter replied to Admiral Blockbeard's topic in Pirate MOCs
Beautiful ship and very well fitting in line with CC and BSB. I'm in love with that classic feeling Concerning your 'window problems', according to LDD and Bricklink, parts #6556 (frame) and #2529 (shutters) should work. Part #6556 features shutter holes, unlike #4033 (older version). And I think you should reconsider the position of the mizzen mast. The distance relations between the masts appear odd. I think it was normal that the distance between mizzen and main mast was closer than the one between foremast and main mast. If you lack space I suggest instead to replace the foremast and main mast a little further up front, if that is possible. Anyway, great WIP, can't wait for the final touch! Regards -
ReBrick "Name the Ship" Contest - and the WINNER IS...
Kolonialbeamter replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
What a grand echo this has already received in such a short time. Should make you think equally grand, TLC! The PTC, the Pirates' Guilds, the new-sub-theme-project, and now this, these are truely exciting times we're living in! -
I lllllike it! Good progress, the bow looks quite alright. And the working rudder is very promissing. Are you going to look for a way to have it connected to the ship's wheel? And have you considered the use of blue gun ports for a bit more contrast? Just an idea, red's also looking good. Unfortunately, I can't help you with any reference material for the ship's inside detailing, except perhaps for some pictures of a frigate (Hermione). Why don't you check out some of the ships here on the board, some feature great interiors! Eagerly awaiting further updates! Regards
-
What a masterpiece! Most excellent work, I don't even know what to like best... I'm torn between your excellent rigging, sail plan and flags, your excellent eye for detail (just to mention the attachments for the cannons), and the excellent new hull (which adds so much more to the ship than your very good use of Perfectionist's NextGen technique)... Truly state-of-the-art and setting the bar for realistic ship construction at least one step higher. Châpeau! One last thing, can you please convince me to be less purist and make use of your technique for the stern windows! I find them... wait for it... excellent! Keep it up! (which you surely will) Regards

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
Kolonialbeamter replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I have to admit, I'm a little torn between opinions here. It seems the general question comes down to whether this will be a 'Pirates only' thingy, or some sort of cooperation with the Guilds for the greater good. There are valid points for each side, both ways have their advantages and disadvantages. And as much as I stated myself a purist, I also find a mingled world appealing to some point. So it's kind of hard to decide which way to go: Stand-alone, pure, boosting pirates, but possibly endangering both concepts. Cooperation, joining forces, greater resources, but maybe not as appealing to many. A tough choice. But I just had another idea, it's not thought-out, I'm not even sure if it'd be manageable, but maybe it can be discussed. What if we have one world, one time-line. And whereas GoH represents roughly the time middle ages to early renaissance, the 'Pirates' Guilds' would cover the age of sails. So it could be running parallel, but both Guilds wouldn't interfere with each other, since they would be one concept, separated 'only' by centuries. Like this everything concerning the GoH could stay as it is and the 'Pirates' Guilds' could do their thing, but on a longer run we could include heritage throughout centuries, guilds could transform into 'nations' (Blue, Red, Armada), new territory were to be discovered, and so on. Just a thought. What do you think?- 318 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
Kolonialbeamter replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow! It seems to be finally happening. I'm very positively suprised, since the last thing I heard about this venture was, that it probably wouldn't happen with GoH still running. What changed your minds? Personally I love the idea, for long now I've tempered with joining the Guilds, I love the ability of putting MOCs in a greater context, the entire framework that the Guilds are providing is simply remarkable. But it just lacks the piratey feeling, it's a different age, there aren't enough sails. Getting this up and running is going to be a tough job, but the result will be worth it. And if I can provide some help along the way, I'll be willing to help. Talking ideas, I'm more of a purist, so I'd split this world along the classic canon, Blue, Red, Armada, Pirates, Islanders, maybe sub-divided, with changing alliances, great sea and land battles (maybe even including gameplay à la Rocks and Shoals). So Classic Pirates + POTC, nothing too 'exotic'. One last thing, I'm sure most of you will remember this discussion, with a lot of ground work and even including two maps (and story writing), that I think are worth talking about.- 318 replies

Hui! A new ship of the line. You got my attention here. I already like your tumblehome a lot, and I'm a huge fan of the usage of different kinds of brown in a ship MOC . Though it's a bit early to say much helpful things, here's a thought, you might want to consider. Take care not to let the two gun decks 'grow' to far apart. I mean, you have 5 rows of tiles spacing between your gun decks. If you look here, you'll find that less will work well, too, and prevent the ship from (maybe) growing to high (which, on prefabs, is really easy ). I'm interested to see if your technique for the black part (underneath the lower gun line) proves flexible enough to provide a basis for accurate hull shaping from midships astern and ahead. Btw, are you are you basing her on any historic design or will she be a generic ship of the line? I'll be looking forward for every update. A ship of the line is quite a challenge, best of luck for the next stages! Regards
