    WIP Blue frigate

Ah, great to see your white hull pieces being put to good use! Big fan of that color scheme and your brick built stern. She'll surely become a splendid Bluecoat vessel. Thanks for sharing your progress on this MOC, keep it up! Regards

    14 gun merchant ship "Eigensinn"

Stunning ship, especially since it's only your second serious LDD model! I really like the stern, most of all the galleries. The second bowsprit, well, gives her a bit of an 'Eigensinn' If you don't already happen to have one, I humbly suggest to get yourself a picture hosting service account (flickr and brickshelf being the most commonly used ones here) and deeplink some more pictures of this beauty (and hopefully more of your MOCs) Great first post, keep it up! Regards

ReBrick "Name the Ship" Contest - and the WINNER IS...

That... sounds like the last one... shaven... hope this doesn't mean a further reduction of the target age... Nah, got to show a little faith, as long as it isn't 4 juniors, it's going to be great! And congrats to the winner, it's a once in a lifetime honor.

    [MOC] VOC frigate "De Ruyter"

Congrats on finishing this splendid ship and a well deserved 'Ship Expert' tag, and on being frontpaged! She truely lives up the potential promised in her WIP thread, I have to praise... everything about her and your presentation. But I really have to highlight again my admiration for your use of metal wires to give those sails that billowing effect, this is a genious way to combine lightweight material and a realistic depiction under sails! Best regards

    18 gun brig GALATEIA

I love that hull, smooth and elegant lines, SNOT technique (the bow! ) the color scheme is great, especially that running tan line linking bow and stern... and the stern is so very beautiful! As are the details on deck. Only 'criticism' concerns the mast, I agree with the others. Maybe after your finals (or before the next ones...) you could make time to reposition them, or lengthen the ship a little to add a third mast. And kudos on the nets for ratlines! Great ship!

Help/WIP: HMS Discovery and HMS Resolution

Wow, two ships (and the diorama, of course) in roughly three months time, to build from scratch, quite ambitious project, indeed I've been browsing a bit for pictures. Take care, your first picture of HMS Discovery is a depiction of Vancouver's Discovery, not Cook's. In fact, I find it quite difficult to find info on the latter... sorry. For the rest, good decision going for a brick hull, the shapes are going to be adaptable easier. The color scheme... an old discussion, yellow or tan... both don't really translate an ochre-ish tone into Lego well, but they're still the most adequate choices. You could decide depending on the deck planking color (which would also be rather bley than tan), if you choose all tan, go for yellow broadsides (contrast), if you mix tan with light bley, go for a (light) tan broadside. If instead you have a reddish brown in mind... use yellow, to outbalance the red nuances. Or, as you suggested, one ship yellow, one tan, after all you are the artist, it's your interpretation of these two ships. I'm sure whatever you'll come up with is going to be fine. Same goes for black or dark blue, plus additionally the parts-availability-factor concerning dark blue. Anyway, good luck on your first ships, thank you for this possibility to discuss, WIP shots hopefully soon Regards

AWESOME Pirate layout at Ch'ti Brick show in France!

Ah! Nothing like a good diorama! The vulcano is very well done, and I'm really fond of the fort, but it's the huuge pirate ship I like best. Chapeau for this spectacular boost for pirates, great work!

Very nice. Do you have more plans for these digital creations, like mocing up battle scenes or the like?

    Brethren of the Brick Seas?

Holy moly, four factions! Seems you're not going to do things by halves Very excited, I just hope there's going to be some many even more than many spoilers along the way. Hmm... could it be that merchants work in every corner of the ship?! Who knows... Anyway, I wish you all the best of success for this epic undertaking you're facing! And, well, I think it's about time then that... summer is coming! *smileywithshades*
  12. Two new BSBs in a few days' time! Congratulations to you two, this ship truely is a beauty and will never loose its charme

Any advice for the newbie? :)

Hi there, I agree with what's been said before, bricklink simply is the number one place to go to for buying specific parts. But as a beginner you might also think about ebay, I don't know about Chile, but sometimes people offer cheap collections of old ship-/pirate related parts, good for experimenting. What parts you're going to need also depends on whether you want to base your ship on prefabs or go for a custom hull. For inspiration on various building techniques you should definitely check out the Ship MOCs Index! Good luck, and seeing forward to your creations!

    Full-hull French Frigate (WIP)

Ah, finally update-day ! I have to say, I really like her shape, especially in that last picture the lines seem very accurate and harmonious. And kudos on the galleries, they look splendid in my eyes, you really maxed out those LEGO windows . It's too bad you've lost interest in 'going for the finished product', but I understand your reasoning, as it seems you've already solved every technical issue about her design... Or haven't you?! ... Hmm, I don't really find any words that could spur you on... maybe reverse psychology... Don't you dare finish her perfectly in a reasonable time!... Ok, your creation is such a beautiful WIP, I don't mind waiting for the finished product. And however 'unfinished' that might be, I'm sure it'll still have been worth the time. However, I hope for you and us you'll find another technical challenge in the field of ship building or beyond soon... ever thought about applying your full hull onto a ship of the line?! Keep it up!

    MOC: Spanish Armada revisited

So close to the original, yet so much better. TLC should have designed the Armada Flagship after one of those (someone invent time-travel, please!). Good work, keep it up! Regards

    [LDD Contest] Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine'

A Dream Home A dream – maybe a bit of a weird dream... Imagine – What would you do if you were eccentric and rich? Maybe you would have an inflatable beverage-providing shark... next to a bar... inside a pool... inside an aquarium... inside a vintage french chateau. And more eccentric stuff. This is my entry for the Digital Design Contest 'Build your dream home'. Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine' is a model I constructed over the last two years, whenever I grew sick of ship building. It's loosely based on famous french chateaus 'Fontainebleau' and 'Vaux-le-Vicomte'. It has a long history and is strongly tied to a maritime tradition of previous generations, as you will see from some details on the inside. The new owner, however, is only partially respecting this heritage, and prefers to do things a little differently... As you will notice from the inside of the remaining (west)wing, the chateau is depicted as a construction site. This is simply to save bricks and be able to show some kind of detailing. Originally it had both wings intact, but no interior whatsoever. Tearing one wing down was a trick, giving me the opportunity to gain roughly 8000 pieces to invest in details. But they were quickly used up. So I made the rest look like a construction site, which makes sense, since a truly eccentric person would, well, screw convention and reside as he pleases But even with only one wing the chateau offers enough space for all kinds of personal projects. In it's current state, however, it hardly features any living facilities, but what the heck, it's already good enough to party! The scene shows the morning after a party, hence there are empty bottles everywhere, there's stuff thrown into the pool, for some reason a pizza on the roof, someone's clearly been messing with the statue... aaand the rider's golden grand sword went missing... I wanted to include minifigs, all hung over and the like, but unfortunately lacked the time to do so. Pictures (click for high resolution, or visit mybrickshelf): Front view, showing the main entrance. Back view, showing the large terrace and the entrance to the garden. Detailed view from behind the fountain (render took too long to be added to the contest post, so it'll be here only). Detailed shot of the pool/aquarium/party area. Detailed shot of the main entrance, including 'APPC' (tank tracks 'borrowed' from Sunder's 'Heavy Tank Centurion III'). View inside the dome. Some more screenshots: Another view into the dome (if built, the outer dome structure could be removed). Another shot of the eastwing, including a chillout area (someone forgot his/her pants...), and if you look closely you'll spot some fish inside the aquarium. Here's a random cut through the westwing, revealing... it's under contruction . Some highlights: model consists of almost 40 thousand bricks (can't open it any longer with 'outlines on bricks'), there's a huge garage with lots of space for dream cars and other vehicles, you definitely want to own an 'APPC': Armoured Party Personnel Carrier', equipped with... lots of fun (and fits into the garage), pool contains brick-built 'water' to place minifigs or other stuff in/on it for a decent pool party, chandelier is made of 300 parts, ship model is made of 270 parts, if you are familiar with 'Grand Theft Auto', you'll find it logic to find a certain item in a certain place, if you like pirates, you'll find it logic to find something hidden in a particular part of the chateau, there are stories of a terrible crime that occurred some generations before... could they be true? Although not all bricks are connected according to LDD logic, I'm sure everything is physically buildable. Here's the LXF-file for download. Please queck it out, there's secrets and gimmicks waiting to be discovered! Due to the size of the file you might want to adjust your LDD display quality settings. C&C welcome! Regards

    [LDD Contest] Chateau 'Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine'

Thank you very much, that means a lot to me. And I have good news for you, 'cause I'm pretty sure this won't be the last you see of it. I have some ideas concerning its heritage... Best regards

    LEGO Pirate Ship 6289

I completely understand you, there's nothing like THE first pirate ship, respectively THE first (favorite) set(s). They will always have that one spot in one's heart... Enough sentiment, great to hear of your display plans! Enjoy building (which you will )! Pics soon? Regards

    LEGO Pirate Ship 6289

Thank you for this trip into a not so far away past, glad you managed to complete it. Looking at this ship, however, I'm a little torn... Today I have one myself, plus one unopened, mint condition... and back in the days I loved those red hull pieces. But honestly I never really liked this ship. It's partly because design-wise I consider it the weakest of the three classic capital pirate ships. But I was much more disappointed by the quality of this last wave of 90's pirates altogether, which shines a lot of frustration onto this ship... in my eyes it marks the point for when things went south with LEGO pirates. Well, maybe I should just learn to appreciate it a little more, after all it's part of the heritage, which is some sort of value in itself. Is it going back into the closet or are you going to put it on display? Thanks again for sharing. Oh, and good luck with your next project! Regards
