[WIP] Kamaz 4326 4x4
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know about white stripes, I think the green and white would clash. If I get the chance I will see how it looks, but I using all green to kind of represent the military version of this truck rather than the regular or Dakar Rally version. I know 1 stud sounds insignificant, but by shortening it 1 stud I can get slightly closer to the correct proportions of the cab. As you can see in the example picture the cab is very short, in fact it ends slightly behind the middle of the front tires. That's what I'm basing the size off of anyway. So even the slightest decrease in length I think would look better.- 67 replies

That's awesome! Truly outstanding. I like how you made up for the lack of pins. -

Thanks, I already have 42008. That's what I'm using at the moment, but it does not have certain sizes of liftarms. I will try to get as far as possible before having to order anything, but most likely I will have to. Also what do you guys think about shortening the cab by 1 stud while having the 16t gear stick out. I'm thinking I could cover that up with some black axle connectors and axles so it does not stand out much.- 67 replies

So more progress: At the moment I am working on the cab, and I hope I am able to keep the cab color green despite its rarity. I may have to order some green liftarms and panels to acquire the correct look, which in turn will extend the length of this project. Even though I really like this project, I am itching to start a new one. Sorry for the dark pictures, I did not realize I was leaning over the truck. There will be better pictures when completed.- 67 replies

Oh, I understand what you mean now. I don't really think the links need to be more parallel, so far I have not had any problems with the suspension. Also thanks timslegos!- 67 replies

[WIP] Kaban

Oh, that would make more sense. I started to look at it and I began to wonder how such a small thing could be RC. What's this motorized function? -

Thanks, but I am unsure of what you by side travel. If you mean the axles swaying from side to side, I added a Panhard rod on the front axle and I have a 4-link setup in the rear to prevent swaying. If you mean something else, please post a picture because I do not know what you are talking about. Also if I reduced the angle, I would lose ground clearance. And as I said already I do not have portal hubs for more ground clearance.- 67 replies

Racing Truck
unimog123 replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job! By the way was this inspired by my MAN TGA Racing Truck WIP topic, because it almost looks like a MAN truck. Anyway I can't wait for the video! Also now it has boosted me to work on my racing truck again. Maybe if I finish mine soon, we could see whose is fastest(in a video at least), since your truck as RC components and mine will have PF components. -

Wow, you never said it was motorized! Thanks for more pictures, it is practically a spitting image of the real thing. -

Thanks everyone, your kind comments are very much appreciated! Believe it or not it does not have portal hubs. At first I was going to give it portal hubs, but to keep the tires in proportion to where the chassis was I did not. It became a real challenge to get all the gearing I needed without the portal hubs. Yes, I'll post a picture of the bottom soon. Probably once I'm done, though. Yeah, at first you would think a battery box on one side and almost nothing on the other is bad for the weight distribution, but I have not experienced any problem with it. Also I know it sticks up a bit, but it is the lowest it could be placed. The only other solution would require building that little box 2 studs wider and put the battery box on it's side, and this looks 10x uglier.- 67 replies

[HELP] Shooting Videos of Moving Technic Models
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't think they will be blurred. With my iPod I've driven on bumpy sidewalk and grass and the background never got blurry. I've also taken video of a creation doing a flip and it is still pretty clear, and I don't plan on flipping my cars in the video anyway. -
[HELP] Shooting Videos of Moving Technic Models
unimog123 posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey everyone! As you may already know, I have made a few MOCs that I have posted on this forum, but without any video. So I was wondering what other people use to shoot videos of moving models. I personally make my models with performance in mind, so some of them are quite fast. I have seen some cameras for just over $100 with 1080p HD video and I was wondering if you guys use something similar. I think this would be a good improvement from my current camera as it only does 680p video or something like that and the video becomes extremely blurry once you enlarge the screen. I have already made two videos with said camera for my Roadster and Trophy Truck and they are too blurry. If I choose not use that camera's videos, then there will not be a video of the Roadster as it has been dismantled, and I'm still hanging onto the Trophy Truck, searching for a well-suited camera before I dismantle it as well. I know this is a bit off topic, but it would greatly help my Lego Technic interest, so any info is appreciated. Thanks -
Thinking about purchasing a large lot of Technic elements
unimog123 replied to Jullian_pdx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would get the lot. I like to think of it as for every 100 parts it costs $10, so in your case should cost about $750, but then again there are many Power Function elements. So I would say it's worth the money.- 23 replies

unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks everyone. I think you just solved my problem because I have an iPod 4th generation as well. Now that I think about it I've taken video of previous creations and with good lighting the footage is quite crisp and clear. Hopefully this will be sufficient, because I would rather spend my extra money on other things. -

Thanks for all the info! When I edit my videos I just use the iMovie editor on a MacBook Pro, is this software too basic?
