    [MOC] Ahsoka's A-wing

Thanks a lot, all of you - I'm glad you like it. Just today this model has gotten a lot better, because I have the whole fuselage in SNOT now, which also allowed me to get the shape much more accurate. I will post photos of the improved model and breakaway-photos where you can see how it is built tomorrow. It's quite hot here in Germany today, too hot to bother with setting up my lighting equipment for good photos...

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

True. Still I personally prefer such characters to stay in the shows, because in a show you can (and this has been done brilliantly in man caes with TCW and REBELS) develop characters and their stories much better and they have more space to breathe than within the confines of a 2-hour movie, that's my main concern...

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Pffff... This is stating the bloody obvious. BTW: The sky is blue! He wasn't a very far developed character since he 'just' appeared in 4 episodes, even though he had a little arc, so I'm fine with him being included in a movie. I just hope (and believe it to be highly unlikely) that they won't include major characters who are exclusive to the animated shows in any movie, because a) this sort of thing almost always is not favorable for any actor they cast, because he or she will always have to compete with the established animated version, and b) more importantly, I want such characters to be further developed by the creative crew of the shows and have them all the freedom to do what they plan to do with them, and not be burdened by having to acknowledge some stupid movie appearance of such a character. What I wonder now is if any character from RO might make an appearance in REBELS later in the upcoming season 3, and whether that season will have tie-ins into RO or not, and if this will be represented in the winter wave Lego sets...

Well, he has been explicitly mentioned as the leader of a Rebel cell on Onderon by Agent Kallus in REBELS season 2. So...

Is it time for Lego to update their blaster rifle models?

Since the blasters are already modelled to look like something from the movie, I'd say no and instead lobby for something else: No lightsaber hilt looks even remotely as accurate to something from the movies or shows as do the current blasters. So, before we get new blaster molds, LEGO should give us some updated lightsaber hilts that look the part. I'd like a Darth Vader's lightsaber hilt, a Luke Skywalker's lightsaber hilt, an Obi Wan Kenobi's lightsaber hilt, a Count Dooku's lightsaber hilt, and, of course, two accurate adult Ahsoka's lightsaber hilts (one short, one long). Only then it'd be appropriate to talk about new blaster molds. Because, you know, new and finally accurate lightsaber-hilts variants are even more important to the adult LEGO-experience than blasters. All my MOCs are utterly ruined by those inaccurate lightsaber hilts!

LEGO Star Wars Pricing Discussion Thread

I've also come up with with a method to determine if I'll buy a set or not, and whether I'm willing to pay its price or not. It's a bit different than the one described in the post above, but let me elaborate: I like the set and/or it contains one or more minifigures I absolutely want, I buy it. I know, it's a bit complicated and outlandish, but it works and always makes me happy!

LEGO Star Wars Pricing Discussion Thread

What's the point? Is there an objective way to determine if a price is reasonable or overpriced for something which basically is a luxury? Price per piece ratio? I guess not, this would make a poor 'objective' judgement, because it doesn't take into account several imprortant factors like the build, what the model represents (which can determine popularity and/or emotional connection), minifig selection etc... It basically comes down to if you, personally, are willing to pay that much for it or not, and if you are, if you feel like you've made a good bargain or not. I will buy two of these, propably three, because I want at least two Ahsokas for my MOCs, and I see a lot of cool parts in the moel for the MOCs I typically built. Multiple Satos give me one minifig for that character and individual minifig parts and prints for custom characters. Great! I wouldn't feel like I'll make a bargain with the price of this set, but I'll be willing to pay the price, and it won't hurt me financially. And last but not least, I maybe gift away one Ahsoka here on Eurobricks on the condition that it'll go to a MOCer who uses it in a fitting major MOC and post it here on Eurobricks, just to spite those vile scalpers and re-sellers a teeny-weeny bit.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

So, what do we learn? Everyone has his own perspective on the cost and worth of a set. I for one will get two, because I want two Ahsokas, don't want to support re-sellers of minifigs and scalpers, and see a whole bunch of parts in the set I will gladly use for MOCs. I also blame scalpers and re-sellers of minifigs and EVERYONE who buys from such creatures for the raise in the cost of such sets, because looking at the ridiculous prices for which some minifigures are sold by re-sellers, LEGO clearly took a lesson in pricing their sets including such minifigures. So, whoever is continuing buying minifigures from re-sellers - good job, and thank you, thank you very much!

    The 75102 vs 75149 topic

Has it ever occured to anyone that the colours of Poe's X-wing - black (or very dark grey) and orange - inverted get you to the standard Resistance X-wing colour scheme - white (or light grey) and blue, and vice versa! Try it out for yourselves in a graphics tool.

Concerning the accuracy of Lego sets after a reshoot: A reshoot doesn't affect the design accuracy of Lego sets at all. A reshoot means that some scenes are shot again and most likely differently - scenes meaning life action involving actors, possibly extras, and real cameras. The reasons for these are mostly tidbits that turn out to be missing during the cutting process, or, in the worst case, a change in tone and/or story because of studio execs meddling with the creative process for lack of faith in the product. The design process for vehicles, sets, custumes, props etc. is part of the pre-production for the most part. A vehicle might not end up in the final movie because the sequence in which it was featured didn't make the final cut, like with the First Order Snowspeeder. A major re-design of sets and vehicles is highly unlikely, very costly and too time-consuming once the production has started. So, you can put away your heart medicine and relax.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

I've not seen the RO sets, and honestly, I don't care. Why? Because I haven't seen the movie, yet, and therefore have no emotional investment in them. I don't know which characters are cool and likeable, which ones are lame, or how vehicle such and such plays a part in the story. I'm rather stoked for sets and minifigs representing characters, scenes and vehicles from storylines I know and like - yeah, I know, I'm strange like that. It's like with Captain Phantasma. So many people were soooo excited about the look, but the "character" was so lame and uninteresting so far that I feel no urge to get her in minifig form. But each to his own! As for The Brick Show: This will sound mean, and I don't wish anyone anything bad unless karma calls for it, but these guys were openly scalpers, and I've voiced my utter disdain for scalping on several occasions here. So, they had it coming...

Review REVIEW: 75098 Assault on Hoth

Lego should've released this set on April 1st... Nice pics in the review, though, if only a bit yellowish.

This is crazy. I got the REBELS A-wing vs Vader's TIE Advanced for 89,99 here in Germany...

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

I'm pretty confident that they are the right colour. The box art with the minifig selection for 75158 clearly shows a lighter blade than the light transparent blue variant we know, and the blue blades on the photo with the model and all minifigures displayed are made blue so that they register against the pure-white background, I guess. Hasn't that occured to anyone, yet? We'll see, but I'm an optimistic person. And if they aren't the right colour, I'll just make my own...!

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

I spontaneously picked up 75150 (A-wing/TIE Advanced) at Galeria Kaufhof here in Germany for 89 Euros. A decent set for that price in my opinion. I'm also happy with the minifigs included - I mean, lets be real, 3 of them are new, plus I needed another Vader so that I could modify his helmet to be slashed-open for my Ahsoka/Vader Confrontation on Malachor diorama. Now all I need is just one minifig to be released soon...

It's not just confusing, but also a pain in the megablocks *you know what* to do because of the precision that needs to be achieved... But hey, enthusiasm is a great motivator...

Perfectly. I cut the dark bley and dark orange pieces with some error margin, and then filed away micromilimeter-layers, until the dry-fitted parts fit neatly and the pegs had the right diameter. For the latter I created a fixed metal bracket against which I could check the diameter of the pegs on my custom composite arms.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

So, finally some pictures of the Ahsoka exclusive. I'm disappointed that the Seventh Sister is not included. I'm building a Malachor MOC currently with the confrontation between Vader and Ahsoka as a centrepiece, but it'd still be nice to have all characters present. Oh, well, I'll concentrate on the top of the pyramid, then... I'm glad we get Sato. As for the Ahsoka minifig - I like it! I did not remember the Shaak Ti headpiece correctly and thought her montrals curved more inwards, but on the LEGO-version they curve more outwards, so it also fits Ahsoka and looks nice that way. Now that we got images of the minifig, I decided to make some new arms for our favorite Togruta in advance. I hope it will be released soon. No, these are not painted, it's LEGO plastic and involved precision cutting, filing and some carefully applied Kragle...

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Regarding the future of the series, I'd love to get more than 3 seasons. No reliable information is out there, yet, and I've heard several rumours, one of them about season 3 leading into ROGUE ONE - which somehow matches up with season 3 going until December and not further into spring as it seems, but we will only know for sure when we get there. I've also heard stuff about a new series, about a continuation of the stories of the REBELS characters but in a different format - animated, still, but smaller team-ups or individual stories, and reading between the lines one could also hope for a series featuring Ahsoka, possibly as a main character (in an ensemble, I hope) and not just as a supporting character towering above the main protagonists... I was also wondering about the passage of time, but then I realized that in the OT movies, there have been some time jumps and 'inconsistencies' even within the movies. Does one season of REBELS span the in-universe time of 1 year, or did season 2 span more than a year? No reference has been made in the show as to how much time has passed, so it's all up for grabs and I wouldn't worry too much about it. Ah, no point in speculating here... at the end of the day, it's all something to look forward to, as is the exclusive set.

As to the final season of REBELS and the future of some characters and the animated series by Filoni and his team, of which I'm myself a huge fan: This might be OT, although I beg to accept that these thoughts and conclusions also revolve around the exclusive set and one special character in it, and also pertain the possibilities of future LEGO sets based on these characters and potential future animated shows and stories.

Eh, hype has become a meaningless word through overuse and completely false use by loads of (cynical) people who just want to sound profound without actually saying anything interesting. Just like 'plothole'...

The GHOST, the Gozanti-Class, the Broken Horn... Watch the show, it is great, and just had the emotionally most powerful confrontation I've seen in Star Wars since Luke faced Vader in Empire Strikes Back with the show's season 2 finale!
