LEGO Sci-Fi 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Although this isn't 2016-related, I thought it'd be more appropriate to post here than begin a new thread. Anyway, noticed this today while browsing armor on bricklink, and immediately recognized the Galaxy Squad logo. Knowing that this armor was never used in the theme, is it possible that this prototype was from a cancelled third wave? The armor is used in the latest DC Batman v Superman sets, of course sans the GS logo. EDIT: I just noticed it was used for a Collectible Minifigure. How cool though!
  2. Space Miner... perhaps a sign of things to come? Although we haven't seen the Space Trooper helmet in any space themes since his release, one could hope for an Asteroid-mining-esque space theme in the future.

    [MOC] Ice Planet 2002

I really enjoy these MOCs you're putting together. Really pays an excellent tribute to my favorite Space era.

    [MOC] M-Tron Mine

This is such a fluid diorama because of its immaculate detail. It is not just fun to look at, but it draws your attention to all of the different scenes you've added. Easily my favorite M:Tron diorama I've seen yet.

    Upcoming Classic Space Reboot?

I nod my head at what you're saying; it makes sense for TLG to revisit this theme. And while we are not to the point of beating a dead horse with the whole "humans vs aliens" topic because it will always appeal to children, I do think it is healthy for LEGO to change the direction and purpose of the next Space line. Classic Space is a great runner up. I do think however that LEGO has many themes to dig up and modernize, not just Classic Space. Hence LEGO revisiting Space Police, they could just as easily revisit a polar Space theme, UFO Space theme, or organize a new theme altogether, perhaps an amalgamation of Aquazone and astronauts. We keep seeing homages to Blacktron and Classic Space, and since LEGO really hasn't abandoned the trend of fitting two species/enemies into its action themes, one could hope LEGO will make Blacktron the aggressor to a civilian CS in the very least. Aimless dreaming aside, I look forward to see what LEGO will do with their cherished past themes we are so wanting to see return.

2014 City Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the parka is as old as 2011 (or older), as seen in 7879. EDIT: It would seem you're right, the "Han version's" hood is more ribbed than the more classic-fur texture of the new parka. Strange choice indeed.

    BRUTE FORCE DRONES

I dig the use of miner helmets on the second robot, and the x-ray representing its inner-components. The whole line-up defines creativity.

2014 City Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Thank you to those who have contributed photos of this revived Polar theme... The original 2000 Arctic theme is very sentimental to me from childhood, and I am glad TLG is taking steps in slightly distinguishing the designs of the sets from standard City sub-themes, although I am slightly disappointed in the redundant cockpit used for the heli-crane. I am very much looking forward to this "Ice-Breaker" set which we have yet to see images of!

[MOC] Ares - Space Marines heavy fighter

Although the design is completely different, I am getting a very "Independence Day" Alien-fighter feel from this... it is impressive to say the least! I am sure this would look much more appealing in brick form, definitely something worth undertaking.
  10. I am digging the Blacktron I logo on the Evil Mech's chest armor! That's going to be a wonderful piece to collect!

    2013 Galaxy Squad

I am certain once the set becomes available, you will be able to locate the instructions online and order pieces specific for the drop ship off of bricklink for much cheaper.

    2013 Galaxy Squad

Despite all of the Easter-promotional polybags I have been finding at Walmart and Target in the United States, still no luck with Galaxy Squad. I might as well visit the local TRU one of these days for a few green squaddie pick-ups! Any Americans who know the cost of these polybags by chance?

    MOC Acid Squad

    Exactly this crossed my mind.

    MOC: VT-318 "Kelly" - a mech walker

How well does this balance on its two legs? Definitely an eccentric and fluid design I have not seen before in a mech build. Awesome work!

    2013 Galaxy Squad

I'd wager this isn't the "Life On Mars" of the 2010's; I believe LEGO is really beginning to reboot their Space properties compared to the beginning of the Space-hiatus from a little over ten years ago. We have a revisiting of the Space Police (which brought hints of Blacktron's return), and while the humans vs aliens conflict is becoming an overused concept in recent Space themes, LEGO is surely inventive enough to produce innovative themes in the future. It's all in the imagination, and the LEGO community is vital in inspiring those ideas as they go from the designer desk to the store shelves.

    Galaxy Squad set suggestions

I would love to see an Insectoid-Inspection lab reminiscent of the Space bases from the 1990's. It could have a landing pad for a VTOL, and large dome windows peering into a complex lab brimming with greeblies and perhaps a place for the Squad members to R&R. Of course this is unlikely since LEGO seems to focus more on monolithic mobile labs rather than the stationary ones in the past; it adds more "playability" if the lab was a feature of a giant fighting machine on wheels. However, with the recent 5985 Space Police Central I haven't given my hopes up.

    2013 Galaxy Squad

Based on the background image of the official site it would appear that the setting takes place on a remote moon-like satellite close to Earth, although the moon can be seen orbiting Earth. This is normal for LEGO, as the physics of space are broadened (during Mars Mission, a spherical Earth could be seen from Mars' surface on the box art). Interesting observation Jargo. Compared to the alien structure found in the Galactic Titan set, the structures you mentioned on the box art look nothing like buggoid architecture. My guess is that the invasion is focused on a human colony, but I would love to see a retaliatory invasion on the alien buggoid home planet, or a colony similar.

    2013 Galaxy Squad

Based on the preliminary pictures we received a few weeks ago, I don't think there is much to get excited over unfortunately... to me it looks like an elongated speeder similar to the one found in 5929 Squidman's Escape. I am partial to the Blue Team as they are representing my preferred strategy of offensive strength, and I do prefer their color patterns over the other Squads, so I am quite pleased with the Galactic Titan! But I am definitely looking forward to a potential Winter 2013-14 wave... and it would seem as if LEGO tweaks the design (especially armor-wise) in the second or third-wave of many sci-fi themes... e.g. Power Miners, SPIII... ...so I am hoping the Red Squad finally receives their well-deserved set, with a redesign in the Galaxy Squad's armor and colors perhaps? Could you imagine a Billy Starbeam with Galaxy Patrol armor and a new helmet? One can hope... I apologize for the post's length, but I am stoked!

    2013 Galaxy Squad

I probably shouldn't say this, but Red Squad is getting the shaft this summer as far as a vehicle goes. Blue Team is getting their flagship set however; I cannot wait until we can look into details.

    Heavy mech Statan Mk.3

This is an absolutely beautiful mech. It's workings remind me of a more-realistic render of a Titan walker from the Command and Conquer series. I enjoy the use of Slat armor, and the use of two tan colors with the neon and black highlights really bring out the depth and character of the vehicle. Nice work!
  21. Very nice MoC! I love how the thrusters are placed at an angle adjacent the dropship! I must ask, was this inspired by Starcraft? The color-scheme, purpose and function of the craft, and the namesake itself all remind me of the Terran Excellent job!!

    Worst set ever: Space edition

I have yet to see 6982 in this thread... pardon me if the intent of the topic somewhat deviates here, but does anyone have this opinion? I have been debating getting this set for a while out of pure fascination... it is one of the most interesting star ships in my opinion, but everyone who has owned and reviewed this set hasn't really given it much critique nor praise. And others simply don't like it. What is EB's thoughts?

    Worst set ever: Space edition

I found the entire Mars Mission line rather successful in both design and function. There were a couple of sets that were not of my partiality, e.g. 7647 Switch Fighter, however I think that design-wise, the second wave was a fantastic wrap-up to the theme. Consider and compare 2008's legendary 7649 Ultra-Drill Walker to the excellent, yet flawed 7699 Armored Drilling Unit of 2007.

    Worst set ever: Space edition

I may be grilled for this, but in my personal opinion (as far as modern Space goes) 7067 Jet-Copter Encounter's color scheme irked me quite a bit. Although not a fan of helicopters, simply for the over-bearing play value, I actually appreciated its design quite a bit. However, the smokey-grey cockpit, the trans baby-blue "containment pod", the contrastive light and dark grays, blues, neon-oranges, yellows, light-blue suits and puke green aliens was a mouthful as it was an eye-ful. I understand there exists sets much more poorly designed in Space, but this one in particular kept me drooling at its cool design cues as it kept me at a distance because of its mashed-up colors. The tacky stickers and uninspired alien craft also weighed in for me. I suppose you could say it was the worst color-choice design for a set, as unfortunately much of Alien Conquest was in my eyes. The prototype trans-yellow windscreens would have suited the ADU much better, in my opinion.

    Glacial Investigator

Wow! I believe this is the first interplanetary Ice Planet cruiser MOC I've seen! And I love it! The detail is off the charts and completely reminiscent of how the vehicles and structures were built throughout the theme! I can see this vessel space-faring over the icy atmosphere of Krysto, escorted by Deep Freeze Defenders. Thank you for sharing, IP2002 is my favorite Space Theme!
