Red beard runner on steroids!
Captain Golden Hook replied to Captain Golden Hook's topic in Pirate MOCs
@ kabel: I don't have any hinge plates left @ sebeus: the frigate vendetta is done, I am waiting for someone to close my WIP topic for the frigate before I post the final pictures, I don't want to crowd the forum with a million topics from me. And I haven't made sails yet.... But I am to lazy to make them in the near future. @ mr Townsend: I know what you mean with the stern, but I wanted to continue the tilt all the way to the back and not use slope plates. I tried and failed to close it up to well -
hey everyone, after seeing sebeus's new wip frigate, i got inspired to build the redcoat counterpart of it. i wanted to use sebeus's tumblehome technique, but i soon found that it ended up with a rather flat side. so i paired it up with kurigan's idea to flex the broadside, and started building! However i got stuck on making the stern. I wondered if i could get some advice, for i am rather blank for ideas at the moment. Thank you! pics: image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr you can see what the stern looks like now: image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr

Tri wheeler
Captain Golden Hook posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, I am relatively new to this forum. (My main forum is the pirate one). This is a tri wheeler I built a couple months ago. It is not based of anything. The main feature was the auto centering steering which was archived through rubber bands, not a servo motor. This is slower than my other rc car i built recently, from a design i found on jurgen's technic corner. Clarification for people that will jump the gun and say i copied the rc car from jurgen: I made the tri wheeler from scratch, the car is from instructions. If you are going to read anything, read this. Here is a video of each: width="400" height="225" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=934e9dbae3&photo_id=14250954431" bgcolor="#000000" allowFullScreen="true" width="" height="" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=&photo_id=14067643128" bgcolor="#000000" allowFullScreen="true" Hope you guys like it! Edit: for some reason you can't see the videos. Go to my Flickr to see it please :D https://www.flickr.com/photos/111973605@N07/ -

Captain Golden Hook replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Set Name. Reef Showdown Category 8 Faction Merchants, Haven Guard, Smugglers Description the merchants and haven guard have teamed up to take out the smugglers! The merchants have suited up their fastest ship, the Camile, and are bearing down on the smugglers. The smugglers rush to load up their schooner, the east wind, to escape before they are crushed by the merchants and haven guard! On the island where the smugglers have stored their goods a smuggler tries to delay the approaching enemy with a mortar! A haven officer in a row boat scopes out the scene before there faction brings in their ships. The rest of the action can be decided by the buyer! Main Elements 2 full ships (Camile and East Wind), 2 row boats (Smugglers loading boat and haven scout boat), island with mortar Minifigure(s) 2 haven guard, 3 smugglers, 3 merchants Accessories lots of weapons and stuff It would look like this: image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr -

Thank you for all the suggestions Kurigan! To answer your first question, I just felt like calling it that because when I started this project i thought I would end up with somthing different than what I have now. I have absolutely no reference material, so this ship can end up looking like any kind of ship. I don't exactly know what you mean in the last question, but if this answers your question, I want into look good and be playable in that it will be sturdy, but it won't have any interior. The window at the back is just for decoration, and inside was a light just to look cool. The reason it is not any bigger or better reinforced is that I don't have any more hinge plates. I hope this can answer your questions.

[LDD] [MOC] 74 gun Ship of the Line WIP
Captain Golden Hook replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow! Nice start! It always amazes me how fast you can reel out these giant detailed LDD Mocs! I recommend widening your ship by at least 4 studs to make it look scale if you are planning on making a true waterline model Good luck! :D- 19 replies

Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Captain Golden Hook replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Red beard runner Black seas barracuda Imperial flagship Queen Anne's revenge Black pearl Lord of the rings ship 2 kraken attacken's Loot island -
I would advise finding a friend who has Legos from their childhood and are willing to trade it for next to nothing if you want lots of good bricks cheap. I also think if you are planning to make small ships you should eather buy a small old hull and masts. Everything else you could build with bricks. Or you could build a waterline model with no prefab hull. Good luck :D

Nice l like the interior :D Very cute, however the stern could be lowered a bit

Nice progress! I appreciate how hard it is (at least for me) to transition a good stern with the new style hulls that have no stern looking piece.
-
Now that I think about it, I think it would look better to shrink the model to 8 studs wide and use hinges on the stern like mr Townsend said. Also this would eliminate the transition problems where the bow meets the main hull.
-
Hey everyone, thanks for the comments! @ mr Townsend, I have shortened the a bit, but I am still finding ways to shorten it more, I want the sleek knife look to the Bow but I agree it forward apart is a bit to long. I have hinges that I could use for the stern but instead I choose to have a half brick wide decrease and increase which solved another problem at to bow in terms of being fluid. Overall progress image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr Two more bow shots image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr Hope you guys like it so far!

PF e Rechargeable Battery(1.2 volt) ?
Captain Golden Hook replied to Kroes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I soldered an extra 2 spaces for AA rechargeable on one of my battery boxes just for that reason. however all i do now is use it to amp up my creations with normal batteries. -
Your ship looks like a cute little baby beluga that was hacked in half! (Sorry, I couldn't resist) ;P
