Nicely done! Instantly recognisable. Bonus points: You've clearly paid attention to detail: you've nailed the exact configuration shown in the TFA trailer (ANH bottom button, TESB circuit board and rivets on grips).

Thank you very much for sharing the LXF file. I've built your v1, which I thought was great: and I am very much looking forward to upgrading it to the even-better-looking v2 .

This post last updated: 24th February 2017 with LXF file of 90% complete outer hull and Engines. LXF files can be found at the bottom of this post. I started this project in 2010 with a Bricklinked UCS 10179-1 Falcon. I immediately started building a full interior, heavily inspired by Matt De Lanoy's Falcon (not a mod of the UCS Falcon, but very nice). Most recent overall pictures Engine modifications WIP photos and comments: This is a a strip of 18 cool white LEDs on a 30cm sticky-backed strip: they cost about £8. As you can see, I’ve stuck them in at about 10 studs from the engine “grilles". They look great when lit, both in full darkness and with the room lights on. The LEDs are pointing straight at the grilles and there are lots of them. Sorry to any purists reading that they aren’t Lego LEDs, but 18 power function LEDs and a battery box would have set me back about £150! The rest of the LEDs are a LifeLites eLites Advanced 2 kit bought from www.BricksForKids.com in France. These LEDs are designed to be compatible with lego bricks, e.g. they are 3mm wide and the switch box sits on a 2 x 4 lego Technic plate. I plan to use them for floodlights, landing lights and interior lighting. I haven’t fitted them yet. I’ll post more pics when I do. Since I now have a nice curve on the engines, I decided to take advantage of it to get the "Thrust Vector Baffles" sorted out: I borrowed the idea wholesale from Matt De Lanoy, once again (I really need to buy that man a beer sometime). The alternatives which I considered were this by OceanBlue77, or this by Brian Tobin. Since I was doing the engines anyway, I redid the entire rear hull: More pictures are available on my Flickr set. Comments, criticisms and - especially - ideas on how to improve this model are all very welcome. LXF files: Added 24th Feb 2017: Complete Top and Bottom Hull plus Engines Added 13th October 2015: Engine Mod and Rear Hull as pictured above. Upper Docking Tunnels (From OceanBlue77's mod): Port Starboard Episode VII (The Force Awakens) Radar Dish (see seperate thread) Upper Gun Turret (no major mods, just a re-skin) Landing Gear(template, really need to finish this) Added 17th Jan 2016: Brick-built round dish (LXF) (XML) Added 26th Feb 2016: Engine mod - just the engine grille (LXF) (XLS)

That's a lovely modification. What a shame that part isn't available in dark red (but maybe that's just me. ) I'm looking forward to seeing the complete squadron.

[MOC] [LDD] UCS INCOM T-70 X-Wing Fighter
ScottishDave replied to All in the Reflexes's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That's a lovely T-70 . It's also - as advertised - UCS scale. Huge! I've spent the last few minutes flipping through the reference photos I used when I was building my t70 moc, and comparing them to your model. I think you've nailed it in almost every way. You've got the major proportions just right, and it looks really smooth. I also really the way that you've scaled up the engine intakes. If I may be allowed one minor quibble: I'm not sure if the 30 degree slopes between the engines and the wing are the best part. In particular, there seems to be too much flat area between the top of the slope and the curve of the engines. May I suggest using 18 degree slopes instead? That's the only real quibble I have, however, and I very much look forward to seeing pictures of this beastie in real bricks. -
Bricklinked UCS Millennium Falcon - MODded heavily
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi Lissa1974. Thank you for your interest. I do agree, the boat riggings are getting crazy expensive. Another Eurobricks member, Daphatty, built a file which is pretty much what you are looking for. I think his mod of my mod is really good, but I personally don't like the technic bricks at the ends of the trans-blue area, which I think ruin the look. So I've made a mod of his mod of my mod: Lego Digital Designer file Excel spreadsheet of parts This replaces the sections on pages 81 through 85 of the original instructions. From a structural point of view, you don't need to do the rest of the mods in the original file (the flaps and the hull) - it works fine with just the engine section replaced. I hope this helps! --David. -
[MOD] First Order Transporter mod (with LXF)
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Is there an echo in here...? Thanks chaps. Do let me know how you get on. BigEl: That was the intention. Glad you liked it! Thank you very much, krisandkris12 - those are the very things I am most happy about . Thank you, LiLmeFromDaFuture - I'm glad I've convinced you! Any yeah: the Hot Toys stuff is awesome. -

[MOD] First Order Transporter mod (with LXF)
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks :-). Twenty troops appears to be the canon capacity. All the references agree on this, for example: http://starwars.wiki..._Assault_Lander The very best source of information appears to be the from the cross-sections book: a lovely hi-res image can be found here Also, the Hot Toys 1:6 model was a good source of inspiration The width of the original set was most definitely NOT proportionate: it was very "chibi". Unfortunately, I can't find any information on the actual width or height of the transporter: so I cannot answer your question about whether it is exactly proportionate or not. It looks a lot closer to me however. BTW: the new length makes the modified transporter 1:43 - which, as has been discussed recently in other threads, is in the correct ballpark for "minifig scale". -
[WIP] Trying to modify my Millennium Falcon
ScottishDave replied to billyamy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That looks amazing, especially compared to what you started with. As you intended, it looks like a mini UCS Falcon. I love the landing gear - very inventive. I really like the use of the dark and light grey: it looks perfectly balanced. I also like the use of the ladders on the engines, and the greebling is excellent. We've had a lot of Falcons hereabouts lately: yours really stands out, and in a good way! -
sandtrooper, your Falcon looks wonderful. I'm glad you found my mods useful! The lights look excellent, and they really help it to stand out. As it happens, I have a box of lifelites waiting to go into my own Falcon: so it is great to see a finished model.

I've put together a Lego Digital Designer File of my dish for you: and a Bricklink parts list. I've attached them both to the first post on my Falcon thread. Hopefully that'll be enough to get you going: but if you need any help with particular parts, don't hesitate to ask.

[MOC] Midi-scale Super Star Destroyer Executor
ScottishDave replied to Pellaeon's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm not sure why Pellaeon did it that way originally, but when I came to build the LXF, I found that I needed the long plate (4x12) at the back for strength reasons. Also, I did like the look of the modified 4x4 and 4x6 tiles with studs, better than either pure tiles or pure studs: so I kept on using those. They are not critical for strength however and could be swapped out for tiles as you have done. -
I've just been browsing this thread again. Good work, you lot. This collaborative x-wing is almost as pretty as mine! One small thought for you all: with the Psiaki-style x-wings mechanism, you do NOT need to make one set of wings upside down. You can use some 180 snot in the lower engines (which have plenty of room inside them) and have both sets of wings the right way up. As an added bonus, you then no longer have the pesky issues with the wings having a half-plate-thickness gap between them.

[MOC] Millennium Falcon - Still the coolest spaceship!
ScottishDave replied to marshal_banana's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm rather blown away by this. I've kept coming back to look at it all day, and I keep seeing new cool things! As you noted, it is clearly inspired by Mike Psiaki's unfinished WIP, and that makes me smile - I've always wanted to see a completed version of that model. I love what you've done with the droid arms on the engines, I'm delighted to see 6x6 dishes used for exhaust ports (an idea I've considered myself for the UCS version), and I think that the rounded cockpit tube looks stunning. As I said earlier on flickr: I'm pleased that you chose to use my radar dish design, and I love the improvements you made to it. I need to get me some silver 4-way wrenches :-). -
Bricklinked UCS Millennium Falcon - MODded heavily
ScottishDave replied to ScottishDave's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi Frostyfeet, Thank you for the kind words. I'd love to be able to say, "yes, here you go", but sadly, what I've put up on this thread is all there is of my documentation. I have a full time job and a family , so my Lego time is rather limited. I hope to devote some time to documenting some more of this project over the Christmas holidays, but who knows whether that will happen...! -
Ooooh... I see what you did there. Nice! . Very true to the original, and combined with the cockpit, it looks the biz. Landing gear will be an issue however .

Joe7218, That's a tricky question. I've seen people use 45301 to great effect, and also 47397 and 47398. It isn't a question of just plopping those parts into the design and hoping for the best though: you'll have to redesign the entire nose. Good luck!

BrickLinking (another) 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon
ScottishDave replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The inverted tiles look excellent. May I borrow that idea? Thank you both. SpacePirate, if you want more details, please check out my thread. I do also want to create an LXF of the mandibles myself. I will get there one of these days/weeks/months.- 290 replies

BrickLinking (another) 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon
ScottishDave replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
BrickSash, that is a really nice Falcon, and quite a tale of how you got it out to the Philippines! Well done with the mods as well: they look great. Yes, I'd highly appreciate it if he could shed some light on the drooping mandibles of my Falcon as well. He was so confident that he had it licked, but after a year on the desk the mandibles are 5mm down at the front.- 290 replies

BrickLinking (another) 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon
ScottishDave replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yes, that's an oldie - but a goldie. I adapted that engine design for the UCS a while back, with lighting: discussion thread and LXF files are here. There is also a general thread for UCS mods. There is another version of the mod on that thread, by Daphatty.- 290 replies

I'm pretty sure that this is the X-Wing I saw at the Great Western Brick Show in Swindon. If so: it's even more impressive when it's sat right in front of you, folks! It's huge, the details on the droid strip are amazing, and the custom stickers really "sell" the model.

Well, in this photo you can see the position of the landing legs: They are positioned under the upper wings, and push up on them slightly: at the same time, the lower wings are dragged down by the weight of the guns. You can see the effect in the photo I posted on the first page, repeated here for clarity: As you can see, there is a bit of white visible under the curved slopes by the guns. If the wings were level, this wouldn't be visible. To make this go away, the parts need to clutch tighter... ... actually, typing that out just gave me the solution. I've replaced one of the 1x2 tiles on top of each lower wing with a jumper plate, which grips on to the underside of the upper engines: and it has completely solved the problem. Thanks for prompting me to look at it! -- Dave. EDIT: Actually, just putting a jumper on one side is quite enough, and it makes it easier to open.
-
Well, there are two parts to that answer... Firstly: Psiaki's original design involved click hinges placed at 180 degrees to one another, to attach the bottom wing upside down. This produced a gap of half a plate's thickness. My design has both wings the right way up and side by side, so it totally eliminates that gap. Secondly: The wings do sag slightly, due to the tolerances of lego and the clutch power of the parts. The upper wings are supported by the landing stands: the lower wings are not. On my white X-wing there is a noticable sag when the ship is landed between the upper and lower wings. This could be corrected by redesigning the landing gear (I have not gotten around to this yet but it is on the "to do" list.) Due to having newer parts, the wings on my black x-wing (of identical design) do not sag at all. I hope this answers your question.

I gave in to temptation and ordered some. Thank you very much for the suggestion, Smitty500!
