    Number Four Raffle... Winners!

To be short: thanks to some and congrats to others. Well done, everybody. I can't stop smiling at UsernameMDM's entry. That was a daring entry, I'm glad it gave you the chance to win. Anyway, all five winners, please show us live pics of you prizes!
  2. I've been asking myself the same question for days. Are we the only ones to remember it or is this just a common illusion? Too bad, I was hoping to see who are the second and third most voted for contestants.

Harry Potter Original Wizard Voting Thread

Being among the contestants, I wonder if I should have the right to express my opinion. I'll let moderators decide whether I'm to be taken into consideration. Before I cast my votes, please let me say I was really awed by many of your entries. As often, three points are not enough to reward all your creative ideas. Anyway, here are my favorites: kciR Brom Kronos 1 point I was first attracted by the look of your vignette. Nice construction and colours plus the use of the hair and beard caught my eye. And then, I finally saw what you had built. Definitely a magnificent creation, thanks for it. The Lanterne Rouge Venetan 1 point Is there anything else to say? Yours is truly a perfect MOC! tin7_creations Sir Hyperion Fairfax 1 point Your dragon/wyvern is a beauty, and the perspective is great. With (or without) your consent, I'll copy you. :~)

    Harry Potter Original Wizard Contest

Bruce "Dummy" Bell Meet Bruce Bell, member of the Flight Test Squad, here wearing his work outfit. His job is to try new broomsticks before they can be released on the market. His half-blood collegues call him [Flight Test] "Dummy". Although he is rather intelligent and educated, he never understood why. To tell the truth, he never paid much attention during Muggle Studies classes. A few years ago, he had the privilege of being assigned no less than the acclaimed Nimbus 2001 and Firebolt. Today's broomstick is the nice and shiny Fairy Dust. But beyond the catchy name, it turns out not to be a very reliable one. Today's lesson is: never fly a broom you don't know for the first time above a forest. Ouch, that must hurt! Bruce a few minutes before take off, posing with the Fairy Dust.

    Review: 7955 Wizard

This wizard is so powerfull he can even afford to be produced with a spelling mistake. I kneel before him. Impulse sets are getting more and more interesting, don't you think? New pieces and colours, two very good reasons to fall for them. I read a post somewhere where one said he'd got a tile with another message. I got a powerfull one and am waiting for two more 7955's to be delivered to see if I'll get the alternate tile. Anyway, it's not about the tile, but the black beard, the 2x2 dark tan tile with a stud and the dark green dragon. What a great mini-set! Usually, you need to buy large sets to get a baby dragon. I just wish the common green version would be easier to come by. The non-printed torso is fine to me. I do not understand why so many people expect every minifig piece to be printed. It is getting hard to get a single-coloured fig, while it used to be exactly the contrary. What's more, when you read comments concerning the misprinted Kingdoms minifigs, you start to question whether printed parts really are a bargain. Obviously, the ppp of impulse sets is not among the best, but for a couple of dollars/euros, you get a nice addition to your settings. Generally a minifig and an animal or a robot/device. Many play possibilities for a smallish price. The 7955 is no exception. Buy it instead of a chocolate bar or sugarfull drink and enjoy!

Pic Request: 7094 & 7946 Side by Side

7094 or 7946? To begin with, I must warn you I was a real freak of the Fantasy LEGO Castle era. Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, Trolls and Hobbits have triggered my imagination for many years. The Lord of the Rings is one of my fave books series. I was therefore not quite happy to learn TLC was dropping the theme to go back to the roots. The first pictures of the Kingdoms sets did not convince me. Slowly but surely, I changed my mind. I am not of those who wished for Elves to be LEGOised. I can't imagine how they'd have produced ears for them. We can then live without Hobbits... and make them with 1x2 bricks or child legs. They'd be the same size as Dwarves, but you can't expect minifigs to be that accurate, can you? Then news on forums and on the LEGO site showed the new theme had potential: no dragons anymore, back to the old-school fights between human armies. Greens vs. Reds, or the contrary. A 7946 castle very similar to my beloved 6080, with which I played for hours as a child. Similar, but more detailed. A modern version of it, if you will. Well, I really don't like the red roof (why did they not use another colour?). But the rest is just fine. An excellent introduction to castles. If it wasn't for its midget size. Admit it: it is quite small. The first time I saw the 7094 in a shop, I thought the size did not reflect the price. It is worse with the new 7946! Nevertheless, you can't pretend it's not worth it. Anyway, a few minifigs more would have been an acceptable deal. Thank you, Metalandi, for taking a picture of the side by side castles. They do work together pretty well. Let us now wait for a dark green-roofed castle to be released. IMO, old 5x6 panels were better than the current 4x6. First of all, they of course made sets bigger. But the main reason why I prefer the old ones is because you needed to attach them with 1x2 bricks. More building and more pieces held together made it more realistic and allowed you to build more complicated structures (I'm talking about real builders, not myself). Panels have always been seen as big ugly pieces. Giving them a rectangular shape do not make it much better. I'm still wondering why the stopped producing the old ones. So, 7094 or 7946? Of course, both if you can. I would recommend to buy the 7094 first, since it has more pieces and features and is getting harder to find - or more expensive than it used to be. And then buy the 7946, so that both armies have their headquarters. Problem solved.
  8. My post will not surprise anyone, but I need to tell you how impressed I am by your train and all its features. I will not comment what has already widely been, but I wished to ask you the following question: how the heck did you manage to use the old 9v lights with the new PF devices? Are they to be controlled seperately or by cheating or is there an approved/official way to make them work together? Since I do own PF parts, I have absolutely no idea of what it is capable of/compatible with.
  9. Even if I am not allowed to vote, I would like contestants to know their work is appreciated. You are one and can't bear not knowing if I would have cast you a vote? Take a peek there.
  10. Being a brand new EuroBricks forum member, I am not allowed to vote. And I am quite delighted, for choosing between all your incredible vignettes would have been too hard. I am not posting in the voting thread, not to (try and) influence registered voters, but nevertheless, I wish to congratulate the following vignetters (in order of appearance): 08) Cutlass Iz: what do you think Doctor Jones thinks of your vignette? Probably nothing, according to his sense of humour. But common folks like me really fancy it; 13) JimButcher: I just gotta say three words to you: YOU ROCK, MAN! 20) Noodles 140: you reused a gag and made it work once again. I'm s'till smiling while thinking of it. Well done! 21) Jameson42: I suspect you of being a former Village People addict. Nice use of figs and pink. I must confess the colour at first sight made me think it was about h**kers. It turned out to be even more promising (and politically correct, of course); 32) Torham: Not need to say anything: your idea was brilliant! 36) Captain'Spaulding: I love how you mixed figs and pieces from different themes and made them work together. I can't wait to see you making a Beetlejuice MOC or vignette; 40) Jammiedodger714: because of you, I spent my whole day with Micheal Jackson and turned the music extremely loud; it was therefore a very fine day (maybe not for the neighbours). Thank you so much! 44) GIR 3691: your Ollie the bum scene totally reminds me of the TH games I spent so many hours on. Even without it, it deserved a point; 50) Oky Wan Kenobi: you created a fantastic design for a minifig that is not the most exciting and made me want one. Great job! 52) Graznador: even if the true story behind your vignette is a terrible disaster, you turned it into a magnificent success. Very good ideas and a lot of humour. I love it; 53) Lego-maniac: your creation tied with Noodles 140's for the best laugh of the week. You too deserved to be given a vote. Not being quoted here does not mean one sucks. Still, considering a maximum of three votes were to be given, I narrowed down my congrats list. Many of you also had a place in it.
