1h 2012 models
dhc6twinotter replied to JunkstyleGio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome! That log loader is much better than I anticipated! I was kinda wishing for a pneumatic set, but this is really nice! Nice to see another set with the miniLA. I like the red frame and new black panels. I've been waiting for these black panels! I think I'm going to skip most of the 1H sets (except for maybe the tow truck), and just buy this. It's really nice! Does anybody know if that new turn table has a hole in the middle? I hope it does! This part would be perfect for some mocs I have planned. Thanks for posting the pictures! -
Build Linear Actuators

That is a good design, and I used a similar setup on my backhoe. It works well, and it is quite srong. -
Side loader garbage truck
dhc6twinotter replied to GuiliuG's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like it! It looks really good, and the functions are very realistic. My city uses the Mack side loaders to collect the recycled trash. It is always interesting to watch how they work. Nicely done. -

I have a hunch that the 2012 flagship model may be another backhoe. I could be completly wrong, but just a guess. I still want to see a SLS AMG. Anyways, I'm interested to see what this log loader looks like. -

Looks great! I love those 23 window buses. They are worth an arm and a leg now. Some friends of mine have a mint 21 window bus. I'd like to own one someday. -

Thanks! It was a great pleasure meeting David, Eric, Marius, and all the other great people at BrickCon. This was my first time in Seattle, and I hope to make it back. Had a blast. Since BrickFair, I added the battery box enclosures and rebuilt the front axle and the lower portion of the boom, but I still need to do some minor fixes before I'm completely happy with it. The front axle needs a bit more work, and I'm not completely happy with the linear actuator that controls the rear scoop. I'll make a more detailed thread with video once I'm satisfied enough with the moc. I should have one up in a couple weeks or so. Paul, those new 16t gears you gave me at BrickFair have held up great! Thanks! BTW, the 16 cylinder engine with variable pitch prop in those pictures was mine as well. :D -

Awesome! I have a dumb question: How are you going to control 9 functions? Will you have some manual functions as well, or are you going to build some sort of gearbox? -

I'll be there along with another guy from NC. I'll be bringing a Technic backhoe I've been working on, as well as another smaller moc. I've been to WA before, but not Seattle, so I'm really looking forward to it! It'll be good to meet you all! Daniel -

Speculations about 2h 2012 sets
dhc6twinotter replied to JunkstyleGio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Does this rock crawler have to be RC? Maybe we will have a rock crawler that isn't RC? Something along the lines of 8297 or 8466? Since we are referring to this as a "rock crawler" and not an "off-roader", I would tend to think we may see something like 8466, but with axles similar to the Unimog instead of the independent suspension. It could have a 5 or 6 speed transmission, 2 speed transfer case with center differential, V8 engine, and maybe even locking differentials. And, since LEGO likes motorized stuff, they could add a motorized winch, retractable steps, etc. I'd be really happy with something like that. I don't see anything larger than an XL motor. I have broken gears with XL motors, and even m motors, so I don't see anything larger, unless LEGO starts producing metal parts. I'd like to see a small motor with a self centering mechanism and built in clutch. It would be perfect for steering and moving pneumatic valves. Just my thoughts. -

Tow truck and quad don't look too bad. The jet is a real bummer. I still have hope for a nice helicopter with realistic rotor functions, and a log transporter sounds great as well. As much as I like real rock crawlers, a rock crawler as next years flagship model doesn't sound very exciting to me. Maybe it will be better if they have some new PF elements or working transmission, but I guess we'll see. ROFL...you and your black toggle joints... -

I like the telescopic boom. It's a nice feature. As far as shows go, I don't know of any in the Boston area, other than what your local LUG may have. Brickfair is in DC every August, but that may be a bit further than you want to travel. It would be really nice to see more Technic builders at the expo. There is also an event in Toronto, but I've never been, so I can't say what that is like. -

Very cool. I miss those older sets. I think the only one I have from your list is the blue truck and boat. The grand prix set was on my wish list for a while, but I never got it. I really liked the trash truck as well. ROFL
