Matthias, well, he's on a quest already, but it will be sad to miss out. Something else I think we should all realize though: a lot of us have gained a few years in real life while we've played this game together. I'm a relative newcomer compared to not just a few of you, and Matthias will mark four years in November (truiy, thanks to you all for making it wonderful)! But all things come to an end; when I started Matthias I was a young man with too much free time; I'm a dad now, and kiddo two is only a few months away - I'm far from the only one whose life has changed so radically. We have grown up. I raise a glass of cider (Matthias' favorite) to you all.

A grim expression plasters itself across Matthias' face as Addok-Zo goes down. The druid fires at Guard 2, praying that Orrik brings forth the living veins to raise his comrades. > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Guard 2 > Matthias: If injured, Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) v. Self; if not injured, Extraordinaire v. Guard 2 Suggested Battle Order and Actions: > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Guard 2 > Petaldan: Brine Blade v. Guard 5 > Jeremiah: Spell (Darkness, Ancestral Staff) v. Guard 4 > Ezeran: Spell (Darkness, Ooze Wand) v. Angry Guard > Matthias: If injured, Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) v. Self; otherwise, Extraordinaire v. Guard 2 > Vindsval: If still *Stunned*, recover; otherwise, Ludeas v. Guard 3 > Addok-Zo: If revived, Crossbow v. Guard 6; otherwise, nothing > Luke: If (Ezeran, then Petaldan) injured: Heal (Pulsar Scepter) v. (Ezeran, Petaldan); otherwise, Pulsar Scepter v. Guard 6 > Galedo: If (Guard 6, Guard 3) has already been targeted, nothing; otherwise, attack v. (Guard 6, Guard 3)

Pong Merc is down. Also, Matthias' attacks are physical - he doesn't user/lose ether except on heals. Alright, y'all, we need to work together here... Matthias targeted the first guard last time because he's immune to Bound... means he is best set against one of the first two, but @Asphalt, you've taken them up with Vind and Jeremiah. I recommend Vindsval moves to Guard 3, because if Matthias does sufficient damage to Guard 1, it will take out the Angry Guard and we won't need to take free hits. Petaldan should take the next guard (4, 5, or 6), since he's immune to Stunned. Recommended Battle Order with Actions: (">" means character acts from back row) > Vindsval: Ludeas vs. Guard 3 > Matthias: Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) vs. Petaldan > Luke: If Addok-Zo is still injured, Heal (Scepter) vs. Addok-Zo; otherwise, loan Jeremiah the Amythest > Jeremiah: If Luke gives him the Amythest, Darkness Spell (Ancestral Staff) vs. Guard 2; otherwise, Ancestral Staff vs. Guard 2 > Ezeran: Darkness Spell (Ooze Wand) vs. Guard 4 > Galedo: Punch vs. Guard 5 (Guard 5 can't kill Galedo, and this saves us a free hit) > Addok-Zo: Crossbow vs. Guard 6 (More possible damage against Angry Guard without targeting him directly) > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Guard 1 Angry Guard: Free Hit vs Vindsval (39×1.5÷2-30 = 0 Damage) Matthias grimaces as his comrades take a series of serious miseries and pulls out his stave to call on Orrick for another round of healing before switching back to his cannon to try and thin their enemies' ranks. > Matthias: Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) vs. Petaldan > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Guard 1
-
Math check: Matthias should have taken (30 × 1.5 ÷ 2) - 7 = 16 damage, leaving him with 42 - 16 = 26 health. Should be *Fragile* too, right? Matthias reels a little, then picks out the leader as his next target (from the back row). @Asphalt, please put Matthias at the end of the battle order both turns, with Ezeran in between them so he gets the chance to recover from stun. Thanks! > Matthias: Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) vs. Matthias > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Bodyguard 1
-
Matthias fires at Guard 2, then fires at Guard 5. > Matthias: Extraordinaire v Guard 2 > Matthias: Extraordinaire v Guard 5
-
An idea of understanding hits Matthias and he stares hard at Jeremiah for a few seconds, then fires his cannon at the closest guard.
-
Matthias marvels at the half-giant's beautiful language. Death over sense, you fellows, the gnome repeats to himself.
-
"Then don't," Matthias says impatiently, "unless you are not in control of yourself?"
-
"Or the trap may be mainly to slow us down so that he may complete some devious plan or make an escape with his true valuables. Time is of the essence; let's go," Matthias argues.
-
All the uncertainty is grating on Matthias. "Let's just get to the man himself. Leave it for now."
-
Matthias wonders the same thing. "If it's so important, how come this is the first we're hearing of it?"
-
Matthias indicates his indifference to the loot with a hand wave. "We can divide it later. Let's get to that Great Hall on the double." The tiny druid downs another Nostrum and Smelling Salts as the party readies themselves for movement.

Clarifying: > Matthias vs Lead Guard: Rolled 3 and 4; luck chooses 3 - Hit, 12 + 30 + 15 = 57 damage. Lead guard takes 57 × 2 (darkness) = 114 damage, 10 health remaining, Lead Guard *Fragile (3 rounds)*. Pong Merc takes 57 × 2 (darkness) × 2 (ice) = 228 damage, KO, Matthias gains 10 gold. Guard 3 takes 57 × 2 (darkness) = 114 damage, KO, Matthias gains 10 gold. > Addok-Zo vs Pong Merc Guard 4: Rolled 2; Critical Hit, 2 × 11 + 8 = 30 damage. Guard 4 takes 30 damage, 90 health remaining. > Ezeran vs Woozy: Rolled 6; Special Damage, Ezeran *Poisoned -3* > Ezeran vs Woozy: Rolled 4; Sleight of Hand, Woozy *Confused (3 rounds)*, Ezeran -1 ether, 28 ether remaining > Matthias vs Guard 3 Guard 4: Rolled 1 and 2; chooses 2 - Critical Hit, 2 × 12 + 30 + 15 = 69 damage. Guard 4 takes 69 × 2 (darkness) = 138 damage, KO, Matthias gains 10 gold. Lead guard takes 69 × 2 (darkness) × 2 (fragile) = 276 damage, KO, Matthias gains 10 gold. Woozy takes 69 × 2 (darkness) = 138 damage, KO, Matthias gains 10 gold. The Battle is Won! In total, Matthias should have gained 50 gold this round, and I believe Ezeran should still be at full health, since the poison never had a chance to take effect. Not sure if I am clear in my actions: ">" means that the character is acting from the back row (Matthias always will). Also, it worked out really, really awesome for us this battle, but I think in the future it's better to always choose the lower roll for Luck, even if the Druid SHIELD doesn't do anything when everyone is full health with no negative effects. Most other QMs run battles that way, it is less complicated, and Druids become (even more) OP when the QM is on their side. Just my $0.02.
-
Matthias' second shot should have done 228 damage to Guard 1 (since he was fragile from the first hit), knocking Guard 1 out (in addition to Guard 2), and 114 damage to Guard 3, leaving Guard 3 with 150-114=36 health. Matthias should receive 20 gold for killing two humanoids. On the negative side, only his actual targets become fragile; the "above/below" hits from the Extraordinaire only deal damage. This means that Lead Guard is not Fragile. Matthias attacks Lead Guard, then stands by to heal anyone who needs it before attacking Guard 3. > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Lead Guard > Matthias: Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) v. first injured party member; if none, Extraordinaire v. Guard 3
-
Matthias attacks Guard 1, then stands by to heal anyone who needs it before attacking Guard 2. > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Guard 1 > Matthias: Heal (Stave of Grasping Thorns) v. first injured party member; if none, Extraordinaire v. Guard 2 Party leader, Matthias' second turn should come at the end of the battle order.
-
Matthias begins methodically prepping, powdering, and loading his cannons.
-
Matthias opens his mouth to give an indignant answer, but finds he has no idea whatsoever what they're doing. And to be honest, neither do I.
-
Matthias inhales a Smelling Salts, washes it down with a Nostrum, and gives his hat a good quick brushing with the heel of his hand. "Ready when you are."
-
Matthias shrugs, beginning to weary of the kid's unsettling uncertainty and hoping that Half-Born's previous experience in the area leads the vindicator to the correct plan.
-
Matthias stands by, uncharacteristically unsure of the "right" path, but just wanting to get the whole distasteful business behind him.
-
"Shall we head to the front door, then? Or the cistern?"
-
"I am under the impression that the city guards will be ...sympathetic, if not outright supportive, should we come to blows with the Dens," Matthias replies. "Is that not correct?"
-
Matthias, tired of the preliminaries, is ready for a situation report. "You say you've got a good view; what are the biggest dangers you see?"
-
"I agree, and what will we do if they accept our proposal? Tell them we poisoned their water? Let them die?"
